Weekend Nuggets: New Haven ’92

The first two nights of New Year’s Run ’92 took place in The Palace Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut – home of the best pizza in the nation. Before moving north to Springfield and Boston, Massachusetts, Phish blew up The Nutmeg State on their way to 1993. Enjoy the old school shows, and most importantly enjoy the weekend. Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers that make the world go ’round!

    whats happenin folks

    finally recuperated 🙂

thinking i may join BK in a read of Jitterbug.

One of my all time favorites (have the cover tattooed on my arm), and its been a while since i read it.

  3. ChefBradford Says:

Silly and Jtran know the same pizza dive?

  4. voidboy Says:

fwiw, “dude” hangs out in Cali… and gets invited to all the big throwdowns… “gnarly”… hmmm, well, I’m not sure where gnarly hangs out… but we can bring it back and see if it’s still chill to hang.

  5. garretc Says:

    Gnarly indeed, silly, gnarly indeed…

  6. ChefBradford Says:

Pretty sure my copy of Jitterbug Perfume is missing a chunk of the last chapter. Literally fell out the first (and only) time I read it

  7. Lycanthropist Says:

i tried to bring back “swell” a few years ago..

i found myself randomly dropping “rad” all of a sudden.

have no idea where that relapse happened

  8. ChefBradford Says:

uh, I should add that it was a used copy

  9. voidboy Says:

Awesome tattoo… hope the shows were good this weekend.

  10. ChefBradford Says:

I use “swell” when I can, usually in a self-deprecating way

  11. SillyWilly Says:

Yeah, Chef, that blows my mind. I literally was never in that shop where there was more than three other people. thats crazy that jtran knew about that place and neither one of us are within 1500 miles of Utah now.

  12. SillyWilly Says:

    I dig rad.

    feels very early 90s.

  13. voidboy Says:

yeah “rad” is good… sort of transcends the moment… almost as good as “dude”.

  14. ChefBradford Says:

It’s pretty awesome to find a random connection like that in a place like this. It reminds me of a blown tire I had.

I’d been living in Louisiana for a couple of years, after growing up in Tennessee for 19 or 20 years. Small towns in both states. I’m driving to work one day, have a flat or a blowout (I lived in an out of the way subdivision of a subdivision of this small LA town), pull over. I have a spare but no jack. I look over, and the guy in whose yard I pulled over is walking up and asking if he can help me out. Turns out he has a jack, he helps me mount the spare tire. We’re chatting, as strangers do in those situations. He asks me where I’m from. I say, Tennessee. Yeah, what part? Northwest TN. Ok man, but what city? I tell him the town. He’s like, no shit, I know that place, I drove trucks for Griffin from that plant.

I don’t know if that even makes sense, but that’s how I got from your pizza to my flat tire

  15. ChefBradford Says:

I still use “dude”, although far more sparingly than I used to. I also had a major “man” stage, but that tapered off after absorbing a lot of good-natured jokes from friends

yeah we had a pretty good time for sure.

    couple late nights..

an intimate quiet show on friday in a swanky restaurant, which turned out to be pretty fun. and then an all out endurance run on Saturday night at our home away from home in Ocean Springs. We sort of used Friday night as a prep for Saturday.. played a lot of the same things, but paid off because we nailed the second set last night.

  17. ChefBradford Says:

and “bruh” is big in Louisiana, especially down South

  18. garretc Says:

The word that I’ve always hoped would make a come back but seems increasingly unlikely to is tubular. Wouldn’t the world be a better place with more tubulars in it?

  19. Lycanthropist Says:

    totally tubular

  20. voidboy Says:

That’s cool. I love those moments… helps you appreciate the small things.

  21. Lycanthropist Says:

i over use the word “sweet”

  22. fee4zy Says:

Going back to pizza in SLC. Yes Big Apple is good. The joint in Sugerhouse is called Estes. I go there more, just because it is close. Dave, the owner of Estes is a huge Phish fan. Was part of the whole Uno gang. Funny how we east coasters love pizza. I swear I could eat it 5 times a week.

  23. SillyWilly Says:

    totally makes sense.

    the world really is small.

  24. voidboy Says:

“Sounds” like fun. I would love to hear that Saturday run… if you post the show, please advise. Always nice to loosen up and get the juices flowing. BK was very excited as well.

Tubular is good, but what about “Crimeny” or “daddeyo” (a little dated)…

  25. SillyWilly Says:

“Nice” is the new “sweet” I think.

I had to ween myself off the bro stage…I didn’t realize it had such a college frat connection…wasn’t in a frat (not judging either way) but everyone made fun of me a lot.

I like to through the gender neutral “kid” out there.
