Fall Forecast: Vegas Baby?

Las Vegas 2010?

While Phish has yet to play a single note of summer tour, rumors are already circulating about what they may do come fall. And right now, the whispers are all talking about a three-night return to Las Vegas during the second week of October. If this happens, Phish would return to face the city that has come to symbolize the beginning of their demise in 2004. But at the same time end, Phish in Vegas is a tradition like none other. There’s nothing quite like spilling out of Thomas and Mack, wide-eyed onto the strip, as the night has just begun. An annual rite from ’96 moving forward, Sin City hosted many memorable Phish shows, and if the whispers are correct, three more are coming down the road.

Vegas 2000 Poster

While a stop in Vegas may seem surprising given the sober, family-oriented vibe of the band these days, returning to Vegas may be a way for Phish to right the wrongs of ’04, and they know there is no better locale for their fans. Regardless of reasoning, it seems that Phish may once again visit the neon desert oasis before too long. Apparently, these dates would be in conjunction with an appearance at Austin City Limits Festival, this year taking place between October 8-10. So if one were to hazard a guess, Phish would hit Vegas the following weekend of October between the 14th and 17th. Going purely on speculation here, perhaps the band would then head west for a run up the coast after these rumored dates in the desert. One can only hope.

And in other overheard mumblings…It sounds like the Holiday Run will shift back up north to Madison Square Garden this year, after two consecutive appearances in Miami. And maybe – just maybe – Indio may present itself as an option for Halloween again, after the original dates conflicted with Austin’s festival. Obviously we are be getting way ahead of ourselves here, but sometimes, as Phish fans, that’s what we do. And with less than a month left before Chicago’s summer kick off, what better way to kill some time.

What do you think?

MSG, New Years, and Phish go together like peanut butter and jelly on wonder bread. Love the hardcore northeast conditions and fans.. Bring it on.

    hey willowed

were is casa de willowed? i probably can’t make it since i still have to work a full day on Friday (trying to get out of it), but just in case…

  3. KWL Says:

i thought i would never be able to see a NYE show, because the ‘special lady friend,’ as el dude would say, would never go.

well, this year she agreed–inexplicably–to do miami ’10.

and then i am told NYE will be in new york.

    d’oh!!!!!!!!!!

    if you haven’t already,

check out that video on hiddentrack of the fab faux doing the b side to abbey road in the sirius studios….good stuff…and there heading my way this summer.

  5. cal Says:

Morning, all! I love that it’s officially LESS than a month from tour!!!!!!

garretc–I’ve been crusading for “bitchin'” lately; can we add that to your list?

I’ve only been to Vegas once, for Vegoose ’05. Poorly arranged festival, so I feel like I got the worst of both worlds (including the worst Trey show I ever saw–but he played twice that weekend and the other show smoked): relatively crappy festival and no time to really “take in” Vegas itself. I’m kinda jazzed up now thinking that I might actually be able to make this happen if Phish returns to Vegas in October.

Not much of a gambler, but very occasionally it’s fun to get caught up in the glitz and spectacle and the thrill of possibilities. Plus I have some friends who live in Vegas who I haven’t seen in years…

  6. ma Says:

    thanks kenny for the sand….

goes quite nice with the palm tree photo…MIAMI NYE ’11

  7. nonoyolker Says:

@ KP – just a word of thanks, your remasters are top shelf buddy. I replaced a lot of toot AUDs I had in my collection with your joints. Great work pal.

“Also, there’s some great state/national parks around Vegas and just across the border in Southern Utah.” silly willy

This is true. Although I still won’t be heading out there. I didn’t know you grew up in UT have you hit many of those parks? I’d love to take a month and drive around that incredible state.

  9. mrfergie Says:

Ahhhhhhh – good morning bb. I have a feeling it’s going to be a good day – rainy and cold here in CT, but work is finally calming down, and thanks to a wonderful friend I’ll be hitting up at least Hartford 1 this summer. 🙂

  10. Kenny Powers Says:

nono – right on man, glad you enjoy!

ma – “thanks kenny for the sand….” – huh?

  11. ma Says:

    huh?

    JOTD mentions your efforts.

  12. SillyWilly Says:

    @LW

    Yeah, Utah is beautiful.

    Zion, Arches, and Bryce Canyon.

    The Four Corners area.

    Grand Escalante.

    It’s definitely worth a trip.

It’s a big state. You’d definitely need at least a month to soak it all in.

  13. Kenny Powers Says:

oh weird, i didn’t even see that.

Hey Miner – that’s actually one of Paul’s remasters.

  14. nonoyolker Says:

@ JDUB – The ‘Nuudge’ is playing Toad’s??? Hard to picture him riding into a venue that small on the back of a buffalo…

  15. lastwaltzer Says:

@silly you got my list. I’d love to get out there, I would have done it this year but it would take two days to drive there and another two to drive back which would leave me with only three days in Utah. Maybe I can make it happen next year. It is without a doubt at the top of my list.

  16. Mitch Says:

What will the west coast fans complain about if they get thrown a bone before years end? Fest, run up the coast??

Vegas would surely break my bank. Not gonna even dream now that I just secured my days for my telly > deer creek > jones run. I am however overly psyched for nye at MSG.

  17. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

    mornin’ all

lots of *ting* in this Sand. Cactus was a big fan of that jam too, I guess.

  18. BTB Says:

    JOTD is haunting

  19. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

    @silly
and you haven’t even mentioned The Canyonlands, Cedar Mesa, and some other amazing spots in Utah. I have collectively spent about 2-3 months backpacking in the Needles District and the surrounding BLM lands (Butler Wash, the Five Fingers, etc.) and still feel like I haven’t even scraped the surface there. positively magical places. the most vivid dreams I have ever had have been in the canyons of Utah.

  20. llamalee Says:

mr. miner some days i really don’t like you. i came into work this morning expecting to get alot done, but now am forced to search the net for rumored fall tour dates. DAMN YOU MINER!!!

  21. SillyWilly Says:

    Word, LW.

    it’s definitely worth it.

there’s some awesome things to see, and awesome places to walk.

  22. SillyWilly Says:

    @TypeIII

    yup.

For me, the only drawback is how apparent and in your face religion is in that state.

you can’t just be in Utah.

    you have to be something.

Of course, this is all from living there for years, so Im not sure what a person’s perception of it would be from only being there for visits.

  23. SillyWilly Says:

Yerushalayim Shel Zahav has a haunting melody.

I hope I hear it live one day.

  24. zzyzx Says:

Vegas possibly, but I’m still not hearing anything that’s making me expect a west coast run after that.

MSG for NYE has been known forever. I’m not stoked about it – Miami works SO SO well – but I see Phish on NYE. That’s what I do. If I have to drag myself to New York, I will. I haven’t been there since BK so I guess I can’t complain too much about having to go.

  25. gratefulcub Says:

    @Willowed

I will be there with my own #10.

Win, lose, OR DRAW it is the biggest game of the group stage for us. I know I should just be looking to get out of the group, but finishing second instead of first puts into the round of 16 on a loaded side (according other groups go as expected).

I would probably put this English team in the top 2 or 3 as most likely to win the whole thing, so finishing first is a tall order. Very tall.

Brazil (playing so well right now. A team that can keep Dani Alves on the bench is one you don’t want to face.)

Spain (IF they can get healthy in time)

England (IF Rooney can get healthy, and IF Fabio will go with Dawson instead of Rio in the back)

Italy and Germany, just because they are Italy and Germany.

Argentina (IF Maradona dies in the next month, and someone else gets to run the team, they may be the favorite. But for now, they will be lucky to get out of their group)

I know no one cares, I just wanted to talk about the world cup, even if only to myself.
