Ten Tunes For Friday
With under a month left until Summer 2010, each Friday inches us ever closer to new Phish music. Until then, each week we can focus on the relics from the past with ten more tunes. Enjoy the music, and enjoy the weekend!

“Auld Lang Syne > Disease Jam > Split” 12.31.93 III
Arguably the greatest splash into the new year that Phish has ever pulled off, debuting the cathartic “Disease” jam before anyone knew the song. “Down With Disease” would be unveiled in ’94’s first show in Burlington.

“Reba” 4.9.94 II
A soaring version with a ferocious peak from Binghamton ’94.
***
“Tweezer” 6.29.94 II
A heavy, imposing rendition that emerged deep in the second set at Walnut Creek ’94.

“Antelope” 12.6.97 I
During Fall ’97, Phish looked through a lens of funk grooves, transposing their vision on any and every song. Here’s a dancy first set example from Auburn Hills.
***
“Wolfman’s > Scents and Subtle Sounds” 7.7.03 II
In the first show of Summer ’03 in, Phish led off the second set with this one-two punch, debuting “Scents and Subtle Sounds” to the Phoenix audience.

“Mike’s Song” 11.7.98 I
1998 was the last consistently great year for “Mike’s Songs,” and this dark-horse version that all-but opened UIC’s three-night stand, moves from militant rhythms into a blissful second jam to balance things out.
***
“Yamar” 12.13.97 I
Kicking off the final show of Fall ’97 in Albany, Phish jumped onto the dance floor quickly with this funktastic take on “Yamar.”
***
“YEM > Fast Enough For You” 4.29.94 II
This “YEM”oozes ’94 energy and creativity, veering from a vocal jam and melting into “Fast Enough For You.”
***
A classic rendition from Orlando, with “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” intro.
I want to see Time Loves a Hero, Cool It Down & Whipping Post
As far as phish songs I havnt seen live:
believe it or not ive never experienced a Split Open & Melt
Buried Alive, Camel Walk, Mound, Mcgrupp, Forbins>Mockinbird
or Harpua…
I hope they play ‘Jennifer Dances’
an ambient transition song that I want back in the rotation is Yerushalayim Shel Zahav. used to love that amidst the Mike’s Groove.
Jammed out ya mar. Song always smokes when it gets some extra love.
Jammed timber and Jim that wander away from the standard groove to a sick percussion led groove to open 2nd set
Funky bitch and rift played right
Segued into walk away
Bad ass avenu
Have mercy
Could do for some of that
No such thing as a bad nirvana cover band
Love hearing Kurts tunes live
I would love to hear a Carole King’s “earth moved” jam like the one from the tweezer last week. Or Tweezer>Earth Moved>Happy>Obstacle of Course with sharon jones and the dap kings. that would be busty or should i say cleavage!
‘Bouncin fan’ knows his stuff!
time loves a hero is at the top of my list of songs i’d love to see them play again, jenifer dances is at the complete opposite end of that list
I’m still waiting for a Curtain With > Rift.
Damn Stupendous, I’ve seen all those songs but Cool it Down. I think I’m pretty lucky.
@[NT]M How did that Gin treat you? Are you still able to function?
Can my bustout request be just a regular old Curtain? Enough of the With. I like it when its a rare treat, once a year or so. But give me a Curtain>Mike’s or Curtain>Tweezer any day
So a non-phish guy at work was asking me if I saw Phish on Fallon last night…duh. We got to talking about Karissa and he googles her name and up come the PT threads. Work guy read the threads he’s like “man you phish fans are a fickle bunch of cannibals”. I set him straight on GB vs BB but…. Karissa is just getting flamed over on PT. There must be 10 threads on her alone. Sad…. Personally, I was stoked to see her cute ass grrrroovin.
Karissa – you out there? Good vibes -> your way.
Sprecher Special Amber is a damn good Milwaukee brew. Not sure how if it is distributed outside Wisco.
have a good weekend all.
Although if its gonna be a Curtain>Sample then I’ll definitely take the With
Whats the deal with this Karissa chick??? was it the girl behind fishman
dancing away?
Who the fuck is Karissa???
wish list:
llama
saw it again
ghost
sihtos
the sloth
bust out:
leprechaun
bouncin fan-
Yeah no doubt.
I hear CF is the best of the best when it comes to Nirvana cover bands.
I heard they are doing In Utero in its entirety for Halloween this year!

Sorry if this is posted already, but it turns out that custie on American Idol is a phish fan. see about 3rd paragraph down.
She should totally do Carini on the show.
I’m Pro-Karrisa, or if you want to get really teeny-bop about it, I’m on Team Karrisa.
If you can’t get down to some phish on national TV, what can you do? You certainly can not still have fun…
word el dude?
how does anyone even got her name? every blonde cutey groovin’ named karissa?
Karissa has a lumpy head.
my favorite childhood memory is…. RIGHT NOW!
She was interviewed in the crowd earlier in the show i think, right?
She’s the chick Fallon did a little improv audience sketch with early in the show. When the band was on she was dancing on the risers behind the fishman. She was getting down…no doubt. Regardless of your take on her dancing or her enthusiasm, she does not deserve a public flogging in my opinion.
