Ten Tunes For Friday
With under a month left until Summer 2010, each Friday inches us ever closer to new Phish music. Until then, each week we can focus on the relics from the past with ten more tunes. Enjoy the music, and enjoy the weekend!
***
“Auld Lang Syne > Disease Jam > Split” 12.31.93 III
Arguably the greatest splash into the new year that Phish has ever pulled off, debuting the cathartic “Disease” jam before anyone knew the song. “Down With Disease” would be unveiled in ’94’s first show in Burlington.

“Reba” 4.9.94 II
A soaring version with a ferocious peak from Binghamton ’94.
***
“Tweezer” 6.29.94 II
A heavy, imposing rendition that emerged deep in the second set at Walnut Creek ’94.

“Antelope” 12.6.97 I
During Fall ’97, Phish looked through a lens of funk grooves, transposing their vision on any and every song. Here’s a dancy first set example from Auburn Hills.
***
“Wolfman’s > Scents and Subtle Sounds” 7.7.03 II
In the first show of Summer ’03 in, Phish led off the second set with this one-two punch, debuting “Scents and Subtle Sounds” to the Phoenix audience.
***
“Mike’s Song” 11.7.98 I
1998 was the last consistently great year for “Mike’s Songs,” and this dark-horse version that all-but opened UIC’s three-night stand, moves from militant rhythms into a blissful second jam to balance things out.
***
“Yamar” 12.13.97 I
Kicking off the final show of Fall ’97 in Albany, Phish jumped onto the dance floor quickly with this funktastic take on “Yamar.”
***
“YEM > Fast Enough For You” 4.29.94 II
This “YEM”oozes ’94 energy and creativity, veering from a vocal jam and melting into “Fast Enough For You.”
***
A classic rendition from Orlando, with “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” intro.

Garret
they only played it two three times ever Once in 85, 86, and 87. Something like that.
Today’s Ten Tunes for Friday was great for climbing the Mtn on my bike… then coming down fast… “Melt! Split Open & Melt!”
Thank you Mr. Miner! 🙂
Listening to Derek & the Dominoes live in Concert on vinyl right now…
The closest Clapton ever got to being Trey… long solos on top of organ, bass and drums… only type I stuff though… 😉
^Haly, that is PRICELESS!!!
one question to any hater of Karissa. Can you still have any fun? That kind of enthusiasm should never have to be harnessed to fit your tastes. It is true, the noobs will (and should) inherit the scene someday. Keep em coming if they have that kind of infectious attitude.
Dancers should be able to get their freak out, the only thing is respect other’s space…
We had a guy elbow-dancing chicken style next to us at Toubab Krewe this winter and nearly knocked my friend’s jaw off a couple of times…
I’m on Team Karissa
Who’s got my Karissa lot shirt?
Kenny Powers
Thanks for responding the other day and posting the links to the google spreadsheet with the remasters section.
I’ve been a fan for well over a decade and these remasters being widely available is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen in the community.
BIG thanks to Kenny, Paul and Phishjams for taking so much time to put this together. I remember the days of barely able to discern the sounds emanating from the cassette deck and now we have remastered shows available!

Oh, and to whoever said that they couldn’t hear Mike …
The most likely reason for this is not the mix, but your speakers. TV speakers cannot reproduce the bass necessary for you to really “hear” Mike, like you do at a show. Even small stereo speakers will not reproduce the lower end of the frequency spectrum – that’s what a subwoofer is for.
Not bashing whatever you were listening through, just trying to make a point, which is that the main reason people can’t hear mike is the speakers they are listening to, not the mix.
I could hear Mike just fine, but the overall mix was pretty crappy.
@ Palmer
Send those dvd’s as soon as possible. It looks like I could be moving to Charlotte in as little as 2 weeks, and I would like to get them back to you before I have to move.
Gotcha Dude. Will send out tomorrow in the am.
What up BB?
Just watched last nights show and I have a few comments/observations:
whoever said page had a plate of hot pockets on his piano earlier, not fair. Sympathy weight is ok with me, I put on twenty last winter when babies moma was preggers.
Mike has a seriously headdie pendant on, sick wrap brah!
Trey, good job not fing up the lyrics. Glad to see all of those Indio practice sessions helped
Love to see fish in pants
bruins have a rough time in 3-0 situations apparently
What a good show these playoffs have been so far! I know I know… 🙂
Bruins are trying to pull of a ’04 Yankee choke job.
last time I pulled a choke job it went alright
