Ten Tunes For Friday
With under a month left until Summer 2010, each Friday inches us ever closer to new Phish music. Until then, each week we can focus on the relics from the past with ten more tunes. Enjoy the music, and enjoy the weekend!

“Auld Lang Syne > Disease Jam > Split” 12.31.93 III
Arguably the greatest splash into the new year that Phish has ever pulled off, debuting the cathartic “Disease” jam before anyone knew the song. “Down With Disease” would be unveiled in ’94’s first show in Burlington.

“Reba” 4.9.94 II
A soaring version with a ferocious peak from Binghamton ’94.
***
“Tweezer” 6.29.94 II
A heavy, imposing rendition that emerged deep in the second set at Walnut Creek ’94.

“Antelope” 12.6.97 I
During Fall ’97, Phish looked through a lens of funk grooves, transposing their vision on any and every song. Here’s a dancy first set example from Auburn Hills.
***
“Wolfman’s > Scents and Subtle Sounds” 7.7.03 II
In the first show of Summer ’03 in, Phish led off the second set with this one-two punch, debuting “Scents and Subtle Sounds” to the Phoenix audience.

“Mike’s Song” 11.7.98 I
1998 was the last consistently great year for “Mike’s Songs,” and this dark-horse version that all-but opened UIC’s three-night stand, moves from militant rhythms into a blissful second jam to balance things out.
***
“Yamar” 12.13.97 I
Kicking off the final show of Fall ’97 in Albany, Phish jumped onto the dance floor quickly with this funktastic take on “Yamar.”
***
“YEM > Fast Enough For You” 4.29.94 II
This “YEM”oozes ’94 energy and creativity, veering from a vocal jam and melting into “Fast Enough For You.”
***
A classic rendition from Orlando, with “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” intro.
Damn Boston! That sucks for you….

bout to soundcheck in jackson
good luck Lycan
Hey Lycan!
Hope you have a great show tonight man. 2010/05/08 CF has been getting a lot of play here lately.
Have fun with CF tonight!
I have a Funeral tomorrow – so I’m staying at home drinking wine and setting up the tour invites on FB.
I’m a loser!
thanks guys.
lookin forward to an otm drop
I just had an awful realization.
The Atlantic hurricane season officially starts June 1st.
We have an out control fuck up of Biblical proportions in the Gulf, closer to Louisiana’s shore than Cuba is to fucking Miami
Think about it
:::WEAK IN THE FUCKING KNEES::
Everything from MPP to GA could be a monsoon…
Never even thought about that
It could be a fucking black monsoon. And think about it, they’re hoping the Gulf Stream will pick up some of the oil and carry along the coast and into the Atlantic…
SNAFU, only magnified a few dozen times
Oh yesss…This Mike’s is exactly what I need at this moment. Seriously. Supremely blissful jams may well be my favorite aspect of Phish’s improv
Even when I’ve had a shitty day, like today, this stuff soothes me.
Come to think of it, I didn’t play any Phish at work tonight at all, which might be a first in nine years at this place.
I spent years and years falling asleep while music played. I fell out of that habit at some point, years ago. I think I may attempt it again tonight. I’m thinking either one of Mr Miner’s (fantastic) DJ mixes, or the Lemonwheel 4th Set
I do realize I’m basically talking to myself here
I don’t fucking care
Listening to 12 9 95 YEM as my bedtime listening tonight
Geez am I ever looking forward to hearing all the TTFF songs tomorrow morning…in about seven hours. Mike’s was perfect, and this Reba is glorious
I’m not sure I’ve heard that YEM…yet
Could someone point me toward some more bliss?
Good evening black board creatures. Did the bruins blow it? Just getting in but have not looked yet
got very excited about how soon phish is coming when I opened up an email invitation from BTB for a facebook getdown at Toyota. So close yet so far away.
@ chef, i got halfway through your post regarding sleep music and lemonwheel’s 4th set came immediately to mind. My favorite sleep music.
Lemonwheel Reba. A comfy night cap.
Love the ’94 love.
’94 was well played today. A sleeper of years. Mine was pretty good although it didn’t include much phish.
well then I’ll prolly do the 4th Set. I’ve posted here before a story concerning that set and settling a trippin’ friend of mine
I remeber that story chef. It is some powerful music that I don’t tire from. I don’t play it all the time but has a consistent presence in my musical conscious.
I know exactly what you mean. That set is one of the pieces I use as a backdrop to my Saturday mornings at work. I get to the restaurant on Saturdays a couple of hours before anyone else, and I use that time to not only get a lot of shit done, but also to use Phish’s more abstract music to relax and prepare for the day. I basically can’t get away with playing an hour-long set of improv in the kitchen. Those guys will put up with a lot from me (because they basically have to), but I can only take it so far
Ok I’ve got to get some sleep or I’ll be miserable tomorrow
about to set up a playlist for tonight, we’ll see if I can sleep to it. I got conditioned out of listening to music as I slept, here’s to hoping I can recondition myself
And for those of you reading in the morning, think about the monumental fuck up that’ll happen if a hurricane happens into the Gulf before that fucking gaping hole gets plugged up
enjoy your Cheerios
