the NYE Ghost has been shown lots of love on here but here comes some more

*Mikes bass jam/section/solo is completely over the top and sends the jam way out there

*the lead up to the Alud Lang Syne tease starts to defy time and make time tick at the same time, how perfect considering we were within an hour of starting a new decade

*after the Alud Lang Syne tease the segue into N20 is amazing, sticking with the time ticking theme and dissolving it into the N20 was just genius

*i’m glad i have finally digested this Ghost in time for Summer Tour, and yes, garretc its going to kick ass

Most highly anticipated show for me was NYE ’02. The comeback show after hiatus #1. Show turned out to be meh at best. But, people were amped for that one. I got a phone call at midnight the night before saying there would be a ticket for me in a luxury box, free of charge. I was excited to say the least, my wife of 3 months(at the time), not so much.
I made a deal with her that i would never ditch her on NYE again. Oh, well.

I caught the same line up last year but with the addition of McGlaughlin on guitar and Vinnie Colaiuta on drums instead of Haynes

    great set

did a bunch of the In a Silent Way Stuff

@silly – we are in the age of the most scrutinized and analyzed Phish ever with the internet being so much of a part of our lives.

when you couple that with the fact that we have access to the prior days show for free (cuz of the net too) it lets everyone and their brother be a monday morning quarterback

  5. Leo Weaver Says:

Well said @butter! I agree with everything you’ve got there.

Most anticipated shows for me were the three in Hampton last year…no question.

spinnin the ghost form today 7-23-97. nice. rescued me from the sailboat.

    nice lineup aw. tabla

  7. butter Says:

@AW – won’t be as good as Pearl Jam or U2….

  8. garretc Says:

At first I read that as “and yes, garretc is going to kick ass”, and I was like “right on! what am I kicking ass at?”

Then I realized what it actually said and I was like “right on! it totally is! it’s gonna be tubular, and you can take that to the bank!”

  9. garretc Says:

    Know what’d be nice?

    Pearl Jam

    Double Bill

Hell, throw in some Dave Matthews and you’ve got yourself a festival!

  10. SOAM Says:

shold have been called sailboat snatch

  11. albert walker Says:

Bono and the Edge sitting in with all those ex Miles Davis players would be awesome

If Miles were still around I’m sure he would have worked with them himself by now

  12. SillyWilly Says:

    Right on!

ive been thinking this for a long time, and wondered if others felt the same about the impact of the internet.

Its crazy how communication can completely change a perspective.

can’t wait for this summer regardless of what happens/is supposed to happen.

  13. albert walker Says:

I’ve been making it a point to be more positive in 3.0

In general I’ve done pretty well
don’t care what they play had a great time at every show

talked some smack the day after but not much

unfortunately being negative and seeing Phish have gone hand in hand together since about summer 1996

93-95 the jaded phan had not set in yet

    doing my best
but it is a daily battle

spinning 12/29 helps when I get worried about 2010

either way we will have an answer in a few weeks here

3 shows in that first weekend
    pertty stoked

My wife is an old reggae head, and I had that TAB stream on last night during the Sailbot song… she gave me a “really?” look, like she was busting me listening to some seriously white boy reggae. I felt dirty.

  15. angryjoggerz Says:

“unfortunately being negative and seeing Phish have gone hand in hand together since about summer 1996”

^ Which is why I sort of stopped seeing them and never made much of an effort in 2.0. I never understood why it was “cool” to be negative if you were into Phish, but to each their own.

  16. Mr.Palmer Says:

@AJ- Does your wife give you the same look when you play Makisupa?

  17. angryjoggerz Says:

And kudos to the BB for keeping it really positive most of the time.

  18. angryjoggerz Says:

Not so much with Makisupa… That one is actually pretty heavy. Sailboat was, well, very sailboaty.

  19. butter Says:

yep a few weeks AW and we’ll be kickin it on the south side…

  20. kayatosh Says:

12 and a half minutes into that 7-23-97 ghost — things get all spacey-james brown. love.

  21. El Duderino Says:

Huge difference right there between Phish family and the GD family.

Jerry would flub or Booby or who ever and the crowd would go wild with encouragement.

  22. butter Says:

and yea AW, its hard to always be positive like that cat “bouncin fan”

  23. butter Says:

crowd went wild at F8 reba

  24. albert walker Says:

I don’t like the super positive fluff attitude

I admit I can be too far on one side

but I think the everything is great attitude gets old too

healthy constructive discussion on how the band sounds is what I perfer

takes some shitty shows for the great ones to be great

but hey at 18 fair to say everyone here wasn’t acting 100% like adults

    I was close to 0%

    now I’m close to 5%

  25. halcyon Says:

No one was drinking the haterade at F8 butter…
