Sailboat Man is a fine enough tune, but it is definitely on the “yacht rock” side of things.

  2. lastwaltzer Says:

WTF AW! I GOTTA GET TO THAT looking it up now………

  3. SOAM Says:

For a high end critiquer like AW-The first shows of this tour will probably not meet expectations-I highly doubt that they will be playing on the same level as they ended with (aka-MSG and Miami) you can’t turn this shit on and off-you gotta get out there everynight and pay your dues…so-I expect Hartford/Spac to bring the heat and be the meat of the first leg-they tend to peak midtour-IMO…..

  4. halcyon Says:

That is the key difference AW….healthy constructive criticism as opposed to blanket negative statements / the haterade

  5. SOAM Says:

Rick Pitinio thinks the negativity in this town “sucks”

  6. albert walker Says:

    just saw lw

    preservation hall band opens also

    what a night of music

  7. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

someone tried to sell haterade at F8 but they got shut down pretty quickly. the Lot Justice League was all like “yo, dude, take that negativity elsewhere, brah. only good vibes are allowed in this venue, man.”

  8. SOAM Says:

I don’t know who LW is but i hope it’s not referencing a large wong under a desk….

  9. butter Says:

i’m all for the open discussion

like today when lamalee said he was worried and didn’t like the Trey show this weekend

that’s his opinion, he doesn’t need to change it … he heard what he heard

back in my day you where either “on the bus” or not….if you weren’t feeling it … you jumped off tour, quite simple

there are a lot of other bands out there

like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, U2, SCI

  10. butter Says:

alright kids….time to go golf in the rain

    fall apart
    fall apart
    fall apart

  12. albert walker Says:

    I’ve been pretty constructive

At Hampton the jamming was a little less than I expected but me and el Dude both agreed when listening to the shows new years 2010 would probably be enough shows under the belts to maybe start being more critical

Getting the sea legs back with that much material some of which had been ignored for a long time would be a huge project

I feel the progression was constant and steady culminating in the Miami blow out

As long as the upward trend continues

By YE 2010 the boys could be bringing the heat

    We shall see

  13. angryjoggerz Says:

I think it is fine to be critical, etc., but also think that it is important they are just a band and we are just trying to have fun, you know? With work I can be hypercritical because the stakes are high and I have to keep my staff on track, but when I cut loose I just want to be loooooose.

Now, if the whole show sucks, then it sucks and I feel bummed. Mostly I just try to have a good time.

I totally understand the jaded fan. And I think its a great thing you struggle to not be negative about this because it shows that you still care a whole about the direction of this band and scene.

Im being completely sober/honest with this.

If I was there in 1993 there’s no doubt in my mind that I would feel like I stumbled upon this treasure. I know I would look at the other kids around and feel this sense of camaraderie.

The changes of course would feel threatening…THEY WOULD BE THREATENING. Im recalling a story in the Companion where a kid stepped on a syringe at RR ’96 and he said it was like a predictor of what was to come…

I wasn’t there but I always feel this sense of something lost.

I think the question is: Is this all possible? Can Phish remain Phish and keep it going? Will that feeling all of us has felt stay?

I mean for most of us this is one of things (Phish) that truly make life wonderful.

Jaded fans love Phish, too, and they might be right – its all different.

and this is where I step in.

Perhaps jaded fans can take comfort in me or people like me. I feel like the new wave should reassure the old guard that Phish is still Phish. Maybe not completely like you saw it, but we are finding IT.

I can’t say that 09 phish is better than 93 Phish, but I know that I love this band.

Im not trying to do this better vs. different thing. Im trying to say IT is alive and well.

And when its all said and done. Jaded fans stand as proof of the power of the music. If Phish wasn’t awesome, hadn’t been awesome, there would be no Jaded fans.

Finally, I don’t know if you are jaded, AW. I had a f’in blast having dinner with you and hearing your take on things.

I definitely know you love this music and you’ve helped my own appreciation of this thing just by being willing to give me your opinion.

Wow, sorry I took off like this.

  15. lastwaltzer Says:

@aw, i don’t have the money for this but I think I’ve gotta just get it and pay later. I mean holy shit what a night!
