Phish Officially Lands In Austin

When the line-up for Austin City Limits dropped in the wee hours of yesterday morning, Phish sat atop the bill as one of three major headliners, just as expected. Making their second mainstream, multi-band festival stop in as many years, the band will travel to Austin, Texas for the Indie-based festival in October. Phish will headline Friday, October 8, while the other nights will be capped by Britsh mod-rockers, Muse, and The Eagles, (yes, the ’70s band touring in support of their first studio album in 28 years!?) Boasting an eclectic lineup of modern music, distinctly outside the jam scene, the hippies will join the hipsters in Texas this fall.

In the manner of New Orleans Jazz Fest, the party disperses throughout the venues of Austin at night, as the artists play legitimate gigs after the official festival shuts down. Rumors have already started circulating about a Saturday night Phish show in Austin, boasting what is sure to be an intimate environment and a tough ticket, but making the trip all-the-more worth-it for the Phish-focused fan. And word also has it Phish will record a segment for Austin City Limits, now the longest running music series in American television, on Sunday. Though these are still rumors, all in all, it seems like October 8-10 will be a very Phishy weekend in Austin.

12.2.09 (W.Rogell)

Interestingly, the $185 three-day passes to the festival sold out before they even announced the lineup, causing most Phish fans to purchase single-day tickets for $85 dollars a pop. For many that will work fine as Phish will only play the festival grounds on Friday. However, the situation makes it slightly inconvenient for those looking to go to the festival throughout the weekend, as there are no ins and outs with single day tickets. Nonetheless, enjoy the only no-service-charge ticketing you’ll ever experience, as stubs cost $85 out the door..

As the band now has official plans for Columbus Day weekend, the rumored Vegas stand can be narrowed to the following weekend, October 15-17. Perhaps the West may get some love come fall, and it’s good to see that ball set in motion. We now have our first sense of fall Phish, and it isn’t even summer. Phish is heading back to Lone Star State s for the first since 1999. Giddy-up!

Matrix Notes: “The following shows were recorded to DAT from a separate, recording board at the shows. They are some of the highest quality
Phish tapes in existence: 4/22/90, 10/30/90, 10/31/90, 11/2/90, 11/3/90, 11/4/90, 3/13/91, 3/15/91, 3/16/91, 3/17/91, 3/22/91, 3/23/91, 4/5/92.

Except for the 4/5/92 tape, they have all been fairly widely circulated. They were done on a large recording console (not EQ) and mixed completely separately from the board mix, rumoredly done in a truck outside the venue. The engineer used 2 audience mics to mix in crowd/hall ambience (on most of them).”

Since there’s not much going on right now I just thought I’d share this with y’all…

I’m in the middle of writing a second composition for class – This one isn’t quite complete yet but I figure I’d show you guys anyhow just to get some thoughts on it. It’s still a work in progress, but I think it is going well. The only issues I’ve been having involve transitioning, which will probably come in time. It is rough in some spots, and the tempo/rhythm needs some work, but once again it is a work in progress. Nothing concrete as of yet.

Anyways, here is the link to download for those who want to listen. Your comments/criticism shall be greatly appreciated. Thanks folks.

I’m still trying to catch up, but I need to defend zzyxz. His cape is cool and his notes are nice for those who are too messed up to remember the show. We all have our opinions, lets keep it real.

Addiction is a monster. I am on that MMP that was talked about earlier, but my significant other had been fighting his addiction for 5 years, and it’s not even close to being won.

On the positive, I can’t wait until summer! Oh happy days.

woah, what up peeps? great board today. about half way through catchin up on the reaidn.

as far as zz is concerned, i am indebted to that dude for the phish stats. Use his website all the time. For me, it’s not about the stats but i like to see how often and whne certain songs have been played. so thanks zz.

taking notes at shows, go for it beats yappin and blowin cig smoke in my face.

The timer story – precious. here’s my take, people in the audience do all sorts of weird shit. Outside of obnoxiously yelling during the music, blowing cig smoke on the band, throwing shit at the band, or otherwise invading the band’s space, the band should have no objections wtih various fan behavior. so a dude is rollin his eyes and making hand gestures. look away trey, close your eyes, make hand gestures back. who cares. unless zz was dead center and making himself painfully obvious night in and night out, i don’t see the problem.

i’m an eyes closed dude myself. i like to lose myself in the music, if only for a moment.

pigs could be the coolest of the barn yard animals.

butter puts on that plasma and smokes bowl of og kush

@Miner – Is what Trey does towards the second half of the hangout Plasma the type of sound you mean when you use the term “drone landscape” to describe Trey’s playing ?

“Let this music… relax your mind.

Let this music… relax your mind…”

Man I hope Phish puts that one in rotation. I know Sandra and Sharon made it even more incredible at Indio but I’ll take the boys singing the gospel harmonies… just do the damn song, please!

    “Can I get a witness?”

  21. butter Says:

that would be dope Sel J

and congrats on getting a close show

  22. Selector J Says:

    thanks, butter.

I was telling myself I wasn’t gonna go because:
    – it’d be expensive
    – I’d need to bring the kids w/o mom (who’s working that night) or get a babysitter
    – kinda get annoyed with the ACL craziness (traffic, crowded festival, etc)

Then I realized that none of that makes any sense… so I’m probably going.
Very hard to dissuade yourself once you see it in print.

  23. butter Says:

Yea , I am going to pass

not really up for the all the hassle of a big festival to see Phish (unless i was into a bunch of the other music, which i’m not in this case)

i’m sure it will be a blast

but for you come on, gotta go

    Home Game

Vegas is lookin like a serious home game for me, got an airport 12 minutes from my house that offers a little over an hour flight to Vegas

  24. Selector J Says:

Home game, indeed. It’ll be a good time and I’d go crazy just sitting at home.

The ACL lineup doesn’t have a lot to offer besides Phish for me, either. I probably won’t go see any of the other stuff because my kids enter into the festival-going equation, anyway.

Vegas sounds more and more likely as a lock for that next weekend. Wish I could swing that, too. With a scheduled show practically in my zip code, I have no room to complain.
Texas phanners = checked off grumpy list.
