I think your problably right, but the line “you made this place for eachother” could suggest some exclusivity of the phenomenon in a sense. As in they did something to warrant this place, not that this existence is available for everyone.
Yeah, I think its probably that Richard just had his own with the people he loved, which is probably just his wife. I don’t imagine he had any real connections with others on the island given his mysterious and isolated natrue.
definitely up to interpretation mrC. I like your Rorschach test analogy. We all see what we want to see. What we like to see. It’s all about the warm fuzzies.
that’s all ‘postmodernism’ amounts to in this context
but the Lost finale seems to have been constructed that way intentionally, to maximize that effect
as I read various reviews and reactions I certainly find myself thinking as much about what each piece says about the writer as I do about what it says about the show itself
I haven’t read more in that forum but he did answer some other things such as “The incident (the release of the electromagnitism that resulted in the Swan station being built) caused the infertility of the women on the island.”
now you can ask: how exactly?
but at some point you just have to let go of those things.
“I would have liked to know why MIB turned into smokey for being thrown into the cave, but no one else was affected by it (save for the skeletons at the bottom).
===============
That was because when the MIB went into the light, he was sent there by Jacob — who, according to his mother’s godly rules, was not allowed to kill him. Thus, the light did the only thing it could do: make him Smokey. That way he wasn’t dead, but he wasn’t “alive” either. He was trapped in an eternal state of flux. “
heh…if I mentioned this forgive me…there was a really funny riff after the previous episode, about the supposed symbolism of the bran cereal they were eating at the Shephard Family Breakfast. It had to do with Jack getting “cleaned out” spiritually…talk about “letting go”
In all seriousness, this might be the push I need to get off my ass and start really writing the story idea I have. I was terrified for awhile they were headed towards one of my favorite ideas that I’ve been working on, and it’s had me more than a little paralyzed. But I still have several dozen pages of real writing, a full top level outline, about 2/3rds of the first detailed outline, and about 150 pages of background/concept/encyclopedia material. It’s enough to go back to, I think I have a good story and now I know I’m not headed into a dead end. I’ll just have to start smoking less weed early in the evenings to get a solid hour-plus of writing in….
so, do Kate and Sawyer hook up in the real world, when they leave on the Injira flight with Lapitus, Miles and Richard?
sad that Sun and Jin weren’t able to raise their daughter together.
what’s the deal with certain characters seeing their dead relatives on the island, and taking guidance from them? Ben seeing his mother and being led away from Dharma toward the ‘others’ for example?
the point is that that was THERE afterlife..
i am sure there are many other Sideways worlds that exists for other hardcore connections..
my guess is there was a whole Dharma sideways world where they got to live on the island free of the other and pursue their goals
there is probably a sideways world for Richard
maybe even one for the MiB and Jacob so they can live where they were supposed to, without ever coming to the island
just because they weren’t in the 815ers afterlife doesnt mean they didnt get one
@ Lycan

well their particular existence may not be…
but there may be other ones created by different groups of souls

Miner, what is this other board you’re quoting from? I need more reading material to fill my obsession!

@tsac77 – go to http://lostpedia.org
all art is a Rorschach test of course

…what does that say about me? 8)
hehehehe that piece Miner posted has been making the rounds on the internets today, including on Facebook. The origin appears to be here:

…which is a Buffalo Bills football forum….a less likely place than a Phish fan forum? you decide

huh? wait…
I thought Smokey was a giant fart from the island’s golden asshole?
no, that was your mom.
FTW Mr. C
nice…
but you better watch out because she will bash your head in with a rock

yeh i saw that somewhere in my readings Mr. C
thought it was pretty funny after the undeniable “Colon Blow” imagery from the episode prior (the aformentioned Fart that was heard around the world)
who ever said this show was too highbrow?

well get it on it Mr. C
i need a fix!
As much as I like this job, it’s way hard to get back in front of a computer after 8 hours of coding
I’d certainly be interested to read a story written by you, Mr C. Get on it! 🙂
did somebody say Lost Farts?
sorry…
also, here’s a blog with some other links to “funny” stuff in the Lost realm. My favorite is the Hurley “Dude” video, but ymmv

again, don’t agree with all of it, but it’s intelligent and nuanced. I do agree with some of his critique-y points though
