Ten Tunes For Friday

Hampton '09 (J.Volckhausen)

Another week in the books, and summer tour is but two away. Today is one of the last few installments of Ten Tunes before the music begins to flow in earnest. The time is almost upon us. But while we’re waiting, here are some jams to enhance your Friday. Happy Memorial Day weekend folks, the summer season officially starts now.

Bathtub Gin > 2001” 12.2.99 II

This sequence served as the centerpiece of the first second set of December ’99.

David Bowie” 11.20.94 II

A ferocious jam set the table for the all-timer the following week in Minneapolis.

Halley’s > Hood” 2.24.03 II

12.29.09 (W.Rogell)

After an incredibly (read: too) long sit-in from BB King slowed the first set to a crawl, this sequence picked up the action to start the second set in style. And post-hiatus “Hoods” began to grow.

Stash” 12.29.95 I

A phenomenal version that capped a vintage year for “Stash.”

Tweezer” 11.11.96 II

Only weeks after Remain In Light one can already hear Phish beginning to focus on rhythmic grooves. Segments of this jam sound like they could be plucked from ’97.

Split Open and Melt” 12.28.95 I

There was no better way to kick off what many believe to be the greatest New Year’s Run of all-time in 1995.

[audio:http://phishthoughts.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/ph1995-12-28d1t02.mp3]

***

Antelope 8.12.96 I

Creek '04Deer Creek “Antelopes” and Alpine “Tweezers,” timeless Midwestern staples of summer tour. This aggressive “Antelope” showed up in the first set of ’96’s first show, setting the tone for a stellar two nights in the cornfields of Noblesville.

YEM” 10.31.09 III

Indio’s celebratory, and rather large, Halloween “YEM;” one of ’09’s better versions.

  5. El Duderino Says:

    @ gdad

It’s gonna be a hot one down here. Be prepared!

  6. Leo Weaver Says:

^that’s right, Gdad…I’ll have a mist fan as well. Pretty sweet on hot days…drops the ambient temps by about 10-degrees.

@Mr. C…thanks a ton for all those DLs you posted last night! Looking forward to digging in.

  7. BTB Says:

FB – I can’t make Toyota Park. I’ll be setting up BTB Fest and chilling with the people who will make it on Friday (Luther Justice, Worthless Swampy etc.)

  8. BTB Says:

Listening to so much GD the past couple weeks has really got me pumped for PH tour.

  11. tela'smuff Says:

@BTB – goign to try to get up there Friday. have to wrok that day. I would imagine the drive from Cincy is 4 hours or so, so wouldn’t get there until 10PM most likely. setting up the tent that late when i should be drinking sucks.

  12. Phamily Berzerker Says:

A slow day at the office and the bosses all out means I am in flip flops.

So far the TTFF is easing the day along. That Gin is a fine vintage indeed.

Busy weekend, coming up. I hope everyone has fun and is safe this weekend.

  13. El Duderino Says:

    @ Tela’s and KP

When it comes to the ’09 sources. I have all the flac 16 sbds from summer legs 1 & 2. Fall I have the sbds and about 6 or 7 of the HD 24/96 sbds.

I’m a soundboard snob. If it’s available I’m going for that over AUD’s. It’s just how the Dude rolls

  14. El Duderino Says:

when I see/hear the world growler, I’m thinking a phat line of blow.

Just me…Call me crazy, you won’t be the first.

  15. BTB Says:

Tela – 10pm is fine. You bringing anybody else?

Must have been hard to skip Bonnarro for BTB Fest, huh 🙂

  16. Leo Weaver Says:

@PB…I’m sure with the boss out, you’re packing the ol’ dugout today for many visits to the stairwell? Dugouts complement flip-flops nicely 😉

  17. Leo Weaver Says:

We called those “gator tails” @dude…fuckers mean bidness

  18. Leo Weaver Says:

Quick question for those of you more computer savvy than me…I just downloaded a font for use in photoshop and word. Where do I save it so it’s accessible for those programs? Thanks…

  19. Stupendous Says:

    Leo
    mac or PC?

  20. lastwaltzer Says:

So I got my fryday camden ticket yesterday. Pumped to say the least.

@GD, how far is your place from camden?

  21. Leo Weaver Says:

    @stup…PC

  22. tela'smuff Says:

@BTB – i coming with showhe, who is a guy i met here who also lives in the Nati. Thanks to this board weve been good buddies since the Hampton shows.

As far as Roo goes, I’ve been 4 times, incl last year. It’s funny, this years lineup is the first year where the set times were PERFECT. I literally would see every band I wanted to see. But the problem I have this year with Roo are the main headliners. Just not my thing, Jay-Z, DMB, or Leon.

@Dude – as we’ve perviolsy discussed, GD SBD’s are the only way to go for me. But I can be the opposite with Phish. I often think Phish SBD’s sound to thin (best word I can use to describe it). Now, a good matrix, that’s what I’ll take everytime.

  23. Leo Weaver Says:

    Nevermind…figured it out…

  24. El Duderino Says:

    @Tela’s

Yep. SBD’s for GD are the only way to go except for the 9/28/75 Lindley Meadows show. The MOTB release sounds like your rail riding IMHO.
I think GD AUD’s are inferior because the venues are so enormous. Phish AUD’s on the other hand are a different story. A lot of it I believe is that’s what we’re used too. Just me. But I’m very happy with the Garry Brown sbd’s, sure leg 1 summer ’09 was way too “thin”. I expect them to be better this year over last.

  25. El Duderino Says:

I knew you could do it Leo!

    Way to go man! 😉
