The Final Countdown

12.31.09 (W.Rogell)

Only four days remain until the curtain lifts on Summer 2010, opening up a season of great musical anticipation. Kicking off this Friday night, Phish will put last year in their rear view mirror and begin to forge the road ahead. With eighteen shows in June and eleven more in August, it is about to be open season for Phish jams. Winding their way from Chicago to the northeast and then taking a straight shot south, Phish will begin to blaze the trail of summer with a lengthy opening leg.

11.18.09 (M.Stein)

While the band’s best playing inevitably comes later in the tour, there is always something magical about the opening show.  Regardless of what the band plays, the first night of tour is always a special affair. A multi-layered personal reunion, reacquainting oneself with both friends and Phish, months of anticipation explode in cascades of adrenaline and excitement. That first note Trey hits sounds as sweet as candy in the warm summer air, and before turning one’s head, Phish has whisked everyone away into the first set of tour.

Always known for debuting new material at the beginning of tour, the band will likely add another layer of excitement over the first few nights with some brand new material. And if the improvisational progress shown in Miami is any indication, this summer should continue the fascinating re-evolutionary process of Phish. New adventures are now within arms reach.

Time is ticking like a bomb…

Finishing up the school year with my last two finals, going home, reuniting with my high school friends, back to work at my summer job, and Phish tour starting. All this week. Stoked. Bring it.

4 day week (took Phriday off, holy day). If this Hawks thing spills over into Phish, get ready for a proper southside romp. Glad I am on the party bus that night… city is gonna be mental… AND blues fest… geez. Bring it on my people.

So, who is gonna be at Toyota? Roll call.

  11. punkmug Says:

I’ll be there for Toyota. Can’t wait.

  12. kenny powers Says:

wow, what a coincidence that Miner put a snippet from Asheville as the JOTD – i just posted “Kenny’s Picks” for my fave AUDs of the Camden > Bonnaroo run.

Other than a slight touch-up to 6/12, i haven’t remastered anything. just a level correction here and there when the original sources were low. These are my picks, and you can click on my name to go to the blog and DL whatever you’d like! All show downloads include a folder with every available photo from each show, as posted on “Phish From The Road”.

6/7: (FOB) Schoeps 4-mic mix, by “SonicSound” (99404)

6/9: (FOB) Schoeps CCM 4 Lg, by Dennis Tyler (99475)

    6/10: Audix m1280/HC, by Mark Terry (99457)

    6/12: (FOB/pit) Neumann TLM-170, by Scott Bernstein (99722)

6/14: (FOB) Schoeps MK4V, by Martin Medley (99531)

  13. c0wfunk Says:

the excitement is bubbling for the tour opener, though I’ll be far away. The only tour opener I’ve seen was summer tour 97 va beach and it was a special one for sure, opening w/ 4 US debuts including a nice first set ghost and then a bathtub gin full of the gooiest 97 funk they could conjur…

Asheville Ghost > FEFY was a love fest, the civic center was spinning with kind mountain vibes and all was right in the world.

tour opener? I’ll go with Runaway Jim > Foam > Brand New Song.

  14. Brimley Says:

It was so great to see Biggy (Buff) knock the shit out of Schlonger last night…They have played plenty better since the Stache changed up the lines in the 3rd period of game 4, but I believe our speed, talent, and especially youth is taking over…
I can’t wait to see Lord Stanley hoisted up in Philly, that is unless Schlonger attempts to steal that also…
The next question will be which immortalized championship winning coach had the better stache, Ditka or Q….

  15. Litteringand Says:

It’s 4 days til Chicago, we’ve got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it’s dark out and we’re wearing sunglasses…….HIT IT

  16. BabyBigPerm Says:

Man, I’d really like to see Philly win the Cup. Last night the Hawks looked real sharp, though.

However, I have to admit I am getting a little anxious if it does goto 7. The sub-plot might create too much of a distraction for the crowd and Trey. Gotta figure lotsa people in attendance would be following along on their phones and random cheers for Hawks goals could really derail things.

TENSION w/no release? Ugh–my chest tightens just typing that. Am I over-dramatizing this?

  17. VTsnowboarder802 Says:

    LOL @ litterin

anyone know what the deal is with streaming this tour? anyone got my links to couch tour summer 10?

  18. Litteringand Says:

I could see/hear hawks chants during the show. Maybe will get some angry jams from big red

  19. ReidIcculus Says:

anyone got a good pdf checklist?

  20. BabyBigPerm Says:

And not too mention there would be Philly fans cheering too and odd “show” moments. Trey’d be like—-who’s cheering the Hawks fans or Philthy phans. Man….”

I guess they COULD just play all tunes that have those cliche cheering moments “can I live while I am young” and figure the crowd is just drunk and slow when cheering at off moments.

  21. james Says:

Has anybody received their mail order tickets yet?

  22. kenny powers Says:

    james

my FedEx tracking says today. first show in my order is 6/17

  23. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

    @kp
mine too! looking forward to opening up that FedEx mailer this evening!

  24. nonoyolker Says:

My FedEx just arrived Fellas, tour on!!! Tix look pretty sweet too…

Hope everyone had a nice weekend. Calm before the storm right now. Withdrawing so bad from phish my blood itches. Going to make the opening notes at Hartford so much sweeter.

How about my Celts last night! Stealing one on the road. Boys looked sharp, even though they slipped a bit here and there. Rondo’s all growns up and he’s growns up and he’s growns up!

  25. Stupendous Says:

    Morning yall!

    Happy monday!

This here is a one day week for this guy, got a lot of cleaning and packing to do…
