Weekend Nuggets: The 4th of July

Official Alpharetta Poster

Phish celebrated July 4th with to in Atlanta’s northern suburbs with the third patriotic weekend of their career. Finishing tour with four sets of energetic music, the band created an all-out party vibe for the tour finale. Within the two shows, improvisational highlights emerged in “Bathtub Gin,” “Antelope,” “Tweezer > Slave,” “Jibboo,” and “Piper > Ghost.” Finishing Independence Day with Rage Against the Machine’s ” Killing in the Name,” sandwiched within a comical, revisionist-history “Harpua” narrative,  Phish created their own pyrotechnics for the holiday.

7/1 Light Up OLMA is BAD ASS.

  2. Frankie Says:

Did this cool little exercise and thought I would share it with my fellow phishaholics…

First, watched this Walk Away video from April 1990. Then, bam!, 20 years later, this one from Hartford in June.

Lots has changed… lots has stayed the same. How lucky are we to have our favorite band still playing music together and reinventing themselves once again in 2010!

    Have a great weekend ya’ll! 🙂

  3. Frankie Says:

Guess which one is our favorite… 🙂

  4. sumodie Says:

@Frankie: Have a great time out in the woods!

And beware of forest wooks 8)

  5. Frankie Says:

Thanks Sumo! See you in august! We all become wooks in the woods… 🙂

  6. Lycanthropist Says:

Read your story yesterday… really happy you and your family are ok! Car accidents happen fast! Been in one bad one and it changed my perspective on life… One second you’re there, the other you might not be… Good vibes to you and yours!

A little Marco Benevento video solo piano from Montreal Jazzfest 2 weeks ago in a chapel built in 1847…

    Call Home & Atari!

    Enjoy! 🙂

  10. halcyon Says:

Interesting Festival in your neck of the woods

  11. halcyon Says:

^ And to all other New Englanders as well 🙂

  12. lastwaltzer Says:

    To further halycon’s suggestion: GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Nels Cline Singers are down right mind blowing, I got to catch On Fillmore the other week and it was some of the strangest music I’ve ever herd. Oh yeah and a Jeff Tweedy solo set? THE GOODS (better then a wilco show imo)

  13. Lycanthropist Says:

thanks for all the concern BB

we are ok for sure. Very minimal damage to us. the middle car however was pretty thrashed.

now my dad and his 5 brothers and all of their families (which equals somewhere in the ball park of 30-40 Lycans) are trying to decide where to eat.

btw sorry for the pointless family vacation updates but its the bb is my only escape.

this just in: one of my youngest cousins just cut her head open. Looks like a hospital trip is in our future. it just never ends in this wolf pack….

just talked with a tour buddy and he thought spac1 wasa suspect show. that surprised me.

nice post for the comparison of Walk Away 20 years apart – both righteous, but boy I like the boyz of today in a big way, if you know what I mean – hard to say one is better than the other – I’m leaning toward the present version, for sure, though! 🙂

  16. Chuck Says:

Check out my Harpua>Killing>Harpua video from center pit!

  17. SillyWilly Says:

Listening to the beginning of 7/2.

Mike is simply on fire right now.

I mean the Bag, Vultures, and Wolfman’s (eventhough they are relatively short) are just Michael Gordon clinics in great rock and roll basing.

Im just sitting here letting him scramble my brain..but my buddy called and he’s got the bane and I do not, so Ill have to leave yall with this thought:

  18. SillyWilly Says:

Oh, yeah, and my girlfriend told me today she is a Dave fan…

GF: You know what? I like Dave Matthews.

    Silly (quietly): god. damnit.

    GF: what?

    Silly: um…

    GF: you don’t like Dave?

    Silly: well…

GF: You really don’t like Dave?

    Silly: I love you.

  19. SillyWilly Says:

    later, kids.
