Weekend Nuggets: The 4th of July

Official Alpharetta Poster

Phish celebrated July 4th with to in Atlanta’s northern suburbs with the third patriotic weekend of their career. Finishing tour with four sets of energetic music, the band created an all-out party vibe for the tour finale. Within the two shows, improvisational highlights emerged in “Bathtub Gin,” “Antelope,” “Tweezer > Slave,” “Jibboo,” and “Piper > Ghost.” Finishing Independence Day with Rage Against the Machine’s ” Killing in the Name,” sandwiched within a comical, revisionist-history “Harpua” narrative,  Phish created their own pyrotechnics for the holiday.

  2. Mr.Palmer Says:

    Nada. Just got home from in-laws. Family(wife’s sister and kids) in from Chicago for 10 days. Yikes.. Alcohol only thing that gets me thru these times. Now its bane time.

    Friend of mine bought t-ride tickets from a scalper last week while he was wasted. He went to pick them up today from the guy. He gives him one of those gift card/ credit cards that the tix are on. Either very clever or very shady. you make the call.

  3. lastwaltzer Says:

    i’m leaning on shady but im not wasted

  4. phoammhead Says:

    I actually like DMB a lot more these days than I ever did in the past. The first time I saw DMB was at Cameron Indoor Stadium in the early 90s.

  5. Mr.Palmer Says:

    I went to see Dave Matthews twice years ago. Both times i got the boot for smoking up. Lame.

  6. butter Says:

    first post i read after coming in from the pool

    Frankie Says:

    “Lots has changed… lots has stayed the same. How lucky are we to have our favorite band still playing music together and reinventing themselves once again in 2010!”

    this is exactly what i was thinking while swimming before i came in

  7. butter Says:

    Dave really gets a hard time, he goes type 2 nightly

  8. lastwaltzer Says:

    @butter,

    he can go type 24, still don’t like his stuff.

  9. Jtran Says:

    My friend, a “huge” Dave fan, that went to Camden with me for her first two shows ever said straight up that it was way above and beyond everything about a Dave show..lots, the vibe, the music, the lights, etc etc.

  10. Jtran Says:

    I guess that’s not what’s being discussed, but hey

  11. phoammhead Says:

    @Jtran

    That’s what a lot of my panic friends said about their first phish show – I couldn’t agree more and that’s why I’m phoammhead! 😉

  12. Mr.Palmer Says:

    Panic rips 🙂

  13. butter Says:

    Kill Devil falls from Great Woods , kills

  14. Mr.Palmer Says:

    That KDF has been getting a lot of love lately. I guess i’ll have to revisit that one.

    Interesting Festival in your neck of the woods

    http://solidsoundfestival.com/ at Mass MOCA curated by Wilco.

    Love Wilco, love Mass MOCA (fantastic modern art museum), but likely cannot go as I’ll just be back from t-ride. Plus I’ll probably be jonesing to hit Jones Beach…

  16. lastwaltzer Says:

    Its been said before but fishman, really sounding good. currently taking the second half of set of set two from 7/4.

  17. sumodie Says:

    and Rodrigo y Gabriella at the Boston Opera House (birthday present for my girlfriend)

    @joe: excellent choice -a most excellent band! Have seen them twice now -phenomenal musicians, especially Gabriela, who’s hotter than hot (she’s not bad looking either 😉 ). Love both of their studio albums too

    I may have to catch that show after all….

    BTW, a few days after I saw them this past spring in Northampton, they performed for Obama and the President of Mexico at the White House. Not bad for a pair of former buskers who dig heavy metal!

  18. lastwaltzer Says:

    anyone know if this allgood webcast has bene up at all, each time I’ve checked it has looked as if its down due to bad weather.

  19. sumodie Says:

    Amused by today’s praise for some ’09 shows

    I cannot go back, yet (though y’all mentioned some smokers)

    2010 all the way for these ears, baby!

  20. lastwaltzer Says:

    @sumo

    While 2010 has been way more consistent (can’t see myself listening back to full shows from 09′) there were quite a few jams that hold up more then well.

  21. Mr.Palmer Says:

    LW- i think it’s a satellite issue and basically they whole thing has been a wash so far. Meaning , no webcast. Shows are on, no stream.

  22. Mr.Palmer Says:

    @ Sumo = i was the same way but forced myself to check some ’09 out. It definitely stood up. Of course, i was cherry picking highlights.

  23. lastwaltzer Says:

    @palmer,

    thanks for the info, pretty beat was hoping to catch some femi kuti.

  24. Mr.Palmer Says:

    But it could get resolved at any moment i assume.

  25. lastwaltzer Says:

    so what your saying there is hope I may catch the last three minutes.
