Weekend Nuggets: The 4th of July

Official Alpharetta Poster

Phish celebrated July 4th with to in Atlanta’s northern suburbs with the third patriotic weekend of their career. Finishing tour with four sets of energetic music, the band created an all-out party vibe for the tour finale. Within the two shows, improvisational highlights emerged in “Bathtub Gin,” “Antelope,” “Tweezer > Slave,” “Jibboo,” and “Piper > Ghost.” Finishing Independence Day with Rage Against the Machine’s ” Killing in the Name,” sandwiched within a comical, revisionist-history “Harpua” narrative,  Phish created their own pyrotechnics for the holiday.

    From Jambase:

The San Francisco Giants will pay tribute to music legend Jerry Garcia on Monday, August 9, when they face the Chicago Cubs at 7:15 p.m. Garcia and the Grateful Dead are synonymous with San Francisco and each year the City celebrates “the days between” which are the days within Garcia’s birthday (August 1) and the day of his passing (August 9).

    THIS IS THE GOOD PART:
Bob Weir will perform the National Anthem and Grateful Dead’s Mickey Hart will lead fans in a special 7th Inning Stretch celebration. In an attempt to set an official Guinness World Record for the world’s largest kazoo ensemble, Hart will lead more than 7,000 kazoo playing fans in “Take Me Out To The Ball Game.”

and you thought the fire on the mountain rap was bad!

  5. garretc Says:

Haha, was just reading back through the comments and saw Jtran suggest Kaya leaves his kids with me for the Greek shows! I believe that would go something like this:
Kaya: “Ok kids, this is my internet friend Garretc, you guys are going to hang out with him while we’re at a concert.”
    Kaya leaves.

  6. garretc Says:

Gosh darn it, posted it too soon!

    Kaya leaves

Kaya’s kids: “So what are we gonna do Garretc?”

Garretc: “we’re gonna go stand outside the concert your dad is at and hope we can either get tickets or her the show…”

    Hilarity ensues

    Or something…

    POST OF THE DAY!!!!!!! LLFA!

You still got tapes coming your way sorry its taking so long.

  10. garretc Says:

    Woohoo, tapes!

It’s cool LW, free stuff can take as long as it needs in my book!

  11. SillyWilly Says:

so no bane at my buddy’s. bummer.

and after someone posted that Dave plays TypeII nightly, I looked up some setlists and….

he plays the same concert every night. Maybe his planned improv goes typeII every night, but still the same setlist every night.

I’ve never listened to Dave so I didn’t know what he was all about. I think its safe to say that I still don’t like him.

    but thats just me.

    good night, all.

    good night, all.

  12. lastwaltzer Says:

    well that was redundent…….:)

  13. SillyWilly Says:

yeah I typed it and then scrolled up to change part of my post and then spaced down and forgot I had already typed “good night, all”

  14. Tzara's Ghost Says:

A saxophone noodling endlessly over a two chord vamp for 10 minutes is not type II.

  15. SillyWilly Says:

    tghost settles it.

  16. Tzara's Ghost Says:

I had to have my crew cover me for a little extra time to watch the US Algeria world cup match. The price was Dave all day. It was pretty brutal and monochromatic. The best track I heard was from the gorge in ’96 I think, but the color palette is decidedly monochromatic.

  17. SillyWilly Says:

Yeah, I really don’t know much about him. His pop stuff just gnaws at my ears.

  18. Tzara's Ghost Says:

Got any leg II shows silly? It’s all Greek for me.

  19. SillyWilly Says:

    Oh, bummer.

    Im hitting Deer Creek>Alpine>Jones Beach.

But, I am taking out a bit more money this fall in anticipation of a West Coast fall run. maybe we can figure something out then?

  20. BrandonKayda Says:

    Hey night time BB

How’s it going with y’all? I’ve been feeling pretty good the past couple days, been practicing piano a lot more frequently, and I think I’m supposed to be jamming with a friend within a few days. Sweet

  21. SillyWilly Says:

    What’s up, BK?

sounds pretty good about jamming with your friend. You’ll have to keep us up-to-date with how that goes.

  22. ChefBradford Says:

Tape? What the fuck is a tape? We talking Scotch, Duck, duct, masking, electrical, silicon, what? Beta?

  23. BrandonKayda Says:

Yeah @Silly I’m pretty excited about it – I haven’t seen this friend recently because he graduated and he’s been busy with stuff so I’m psyched about jamming with him sometime soon. Going to be fun for sure.

I want Phish to play at Ram’s Head for Halloween 🙂

  24. Tzara's Ghost Says:

Fall west coast run, huh? What’s the over/under standing at for that. Sure would be cool.

  25. SillyWilly Says:

and Chef makes a strong entrance this evening.

haha. it just occurred to me I was going to bed. so much for that, huh.
