Weekend Nuggets: The 4th of July

Official Alpharetta Poster

Phish celebrated July 4th with to in Atlanta’s northern suburbs with the third patriotic weekend of their career. Finishing tour with four sets of energetic music, the band created an all-out party vibe for the tour finale. Within the two shows, improvisational highlights emerged in “Bathtub Gin,” “Antelope,” “Tweezer > Slave,” “Jibboo,” and “Piper > Ghost.” Finishing Independence Day with Rage Against the Machine’s ” Killing in the Name,” sandwiched within a comical, revisionist-history “Harpua” narrative,  Phish created their own pyrotechnics for the holiday.

Im not sure, T-ghost, but people have been talking about it off and on.

I figured they have to play a few shows on the West Coast after the shut-out last fall and only the Greek this summer.

  2. SillyWilly Says:

    cool, man.

i think creating new things (music) is good for the heart.

  3. BrandonKayda Says:

Music has generally always been a release for me – one of my deepest pleasures/passions. It’s definitely a good, productive way to get away from daily strife for sure.

  4. ChefBradford Says:

I’ve been busy man, a lot of stuff going on personally and professionally, and I’m currently on my pop’s laptop, which cuts off typed words and jumps the cursor back randomly, don’t know what the deal is, makes it really aggravating to type

been trying to keep up, but it’s mostly been too much

  5. ChefBradford Says:

So I’m guessing it’s not Beta, then

BK, do you know what Beta is? I’m not being a smart-ass, just curious

  6. SillyWilly Says:

Yeah, BK, Im glad you’re getting a chance to play!

    im fadin’ fast.

    night, all.

  7. BrandonKayda Says:

Beta means unfinished or in the works – atleast in internet terms. Like if there is a website in “BETA”, it means that thw website is not fully complete/they are still adding stuff in.

  8. BrandonKayda Says:

I probably didn’t help or answer your question there at all @Chef – for some reason I feel like I mis-interpreted your question. My bad.

  9. ChefBradford Says:

Hoo. Check out BetaMax (I think) video

VHS/VCR only competitor waaay back in the day, bud, the advent of home theater

enjoy the night, it’s past my bedtime, I’m out

  10. ChefBradford Says:

no worries bud, I was just curious is all

not missing anything by missing betamax, bud!

    have a good one, Brandon

  11. BrandonKayda Says:

Whoops. I was WAY off then llfa. I don’t even know why I said that.

    Goodnight @Chef

  12. Chuck Says:

Here is my vid from front center pit of killing in the name! it really captures the energy from the moment in HD!

  13. Mr.Palmer Says:

Sick video Chuck! Thanks for sharing.

  14. willowed Says:

Morning boys. Make it a great one today.
The Roggae from Spac 2 is beautiful
    That is all

  15. Leo Weaver Says:

Morning folks! Slow weekend around here. Looks like everyone’s trying to get back into the real thing we call life. Like Kaya noted yesterday, we’re listening to the past, living in the present, and planning for the future. Good time to be a Phish fan. Y’all have a good one today!

@BK…what I think is funny re: beta is the fact that your mind goes directly to something internet/computer related. I still think of the slightly smaller than VHS tapes. I think my grandparents were two of about 120 people who actually had a beta VCR.

  16. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

    Mornin’ you’uns

Thiugh the companies competing are different, betamax vs VHS is the same as HD DVD vs blueray. Thankfully this time decisions were made early on for everyone to go in one direction so that we didn’t end up with another betamax. Toshiba was wise to acquiesce.

  17. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

Off to paint some lattice* and then watch the wc final. Have a great day everyone!

*unfortunately, this is not a euphemism. I actually have to go paint some lattice on my house. 😐

  18. Gratefulcub Says:

Happy world cup final day to all!!

Cooking up a little Catalan style paella and a few tapas. Fridge packed with Spanish white wine. Friends and mimosas arriving 90 minutes pre kickoff. Perfect day to place between 2 legs of summer tour.

In my mind, I know this is not just a coronation, yet I can’t imagine a Spanish loss today.

  19. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

I’ll take the Dutch in the upset, cub. My buddy burblelover415 and I are hoping to sidle up at a pro Spain bar though just in case…

  20. joe Says:

maybe get some Amstel just in case. and some very kind bud.

  21. KWL Says:

  25. SillyWilly Says:

Hey, @Beepaphone, got your email, man.

    I responded.

Don’t hesitate to let us know if there’s anything we can do to make that weekend a little more enjoyable for you.

Moves are stressful, and sometimes the mental strains are as bad as the financial ones. So, like I said if you need anything or if there’s a way we could help out let us know.
