Weekend Nuggets: The 4th of July

Official Alpharetta Poster

Phish celebrated July 4th with to in Atlanta’s northern suburbs with the third patriotic weekend of their career. Finishing tour with four sets of energetic music, the band created an all-out party vibe for the tour finale. Within the two shows, improvisational highlights emerged in “Bathtub Gin,” “Antelope,” “Tweezer > Slave,” “Jibboo,” and “Piper > Ghost.” Finishing Independence Day with Rage Against the Machine’s ” Killing in the Name,” sandwiched within a comical, revisionist-history “Harpua” narrative,  Phish created their own pyrotechnics for the holiday.

    LLFA @ Palmer! “That’s a ‘bute Clarke”

I could see a nederlands upset today. Should be a good match. I was in Madrid 2 yrs ago when they won the championship. Man, those people can party… Days of partying culminated with a victory celebration in the center of the city with the team spraying the crowd on the top of a fire truck. Had to be 100k people in the streets

@lycan…glad to hear all you folks are alright. Hopefully some of Moby’s blubber helped absorb some of the wreck’s impact.

@joe…I like the way you think

@cub…sounds like a helluva party. Save me some paella…and maybe a little sangria.

  3. Phorbin Says:

    hey everybody,

always been a fan of the site, but never posted a reply. i was reading some comments earlier about classic 2009 shows and i would suggest giving portland maine 11/29/2009 a listen. more specifically the meat is one of the better versions i have heard, plus you get a possum opener which is pleasantly suprising.

anyways thats all i have to offer now…

  4. joe Says:

crazy Billie Jean from Trey,Mike and the Duo from 7/19/06 on Sirius right now. saw them a few times, but didn’t catch this one. pretty interesting sounding. certainly not trey at his best though.

  5. joe Says:

his guitar tone is so much different than now too. I kind of forgot about that whole thing.

  6. phoammhead Says:

Yeah, and the Michael Jackson teasers during 2001 on 6/25 are really pretty good – the CDT from 6/25 is on fire – very well could be jam of the tour!!! 🙂

@c0w – if you’re lurking out there – may do the Big Crafty later this afternoon after the World Cup Finals

  7. BrandonKayda Says:

So have we heard back from Lycan yet? I really hope he turned out alright

  8. Lycanthropist Says:

    hey all.

    everyone is ok.

not sure if you saw, but one of my younger cousins busted her head open yesterday. Nothing a little whale blubber couldnt fix. 🙂

so 20 of our wolf pack went to dinner last night and got drunk as irish whales do.

which of course resulted in grandma losing her shit and goin crazy :). Shes 80 years old and the mother of 6 boys and the grandmother of 20 grandchildren so i guess she has reason to be a bit insane.

anyways heres hopin the wedding goes off with no disasters.

once i get home i will be posting bks chance fisher review on the cf blog.

btw moby is touched by you guys missing him, he will probably be around again come leg 2.

for good 09 revisits hit those cinci shows

  9. SillyWilly Says:

7/2 Stash beginning at 6 minutes is awesome.

Its Neil Armstrong taking his first bouncy steps on the mood.

  10. SillyWilly Says:

that a great recap of your family’s night. llfa.

i hope your little cousin feels better. I don’t mean to laugh at her.

  11. Robear Says:

  12. Gavinsdad Says:

Morning peeps. Sitting in the hotel lobby waiting to head back to s.jersey after nice NYC/GSW weekend with my wife and about 50 of my old crew. We were thick in the gramercy past 2 nites. Wanted to mention that Maiden is playing MSG next two nites and their fans are roaming the city strong. Love the Maiden allegiance!!

@Halcy And anyone else who is interested. The sbds from the last two nites of GSW are on the LMA right now. 2nd nite was a major stepup from the first nite jitters. They got into cruise control last nite.

@lycan: glad to hear you and your fam are ok…bumped more than bruised.

Also…instead of seeing Philly Furthur tonite I took one on the chin and am taking my wife, at her request, to see Jack Johnson at Camden tonite…wonder if his CDT will compare…

    Go Orange!!

  13. Gavinsdad Says:

@voopa: I am with you on any and all NC busts and covers. Think Have Mercy was the only tune that suffered slightly.

  14. SillyWilly Says:

thanks for the heads up…i might have to save my funds for Phish, but If i can over there I would love to see some of those bands.

  15. whole tour! Says:

^ yo yo Gavinsdad! hows it going?

Can’t believe that it was a week ago that phish put the exclamation point on 4 foh the hottest shows i’ve ever seen.

Waited a week to listen to 7/4/10 set 2 and it is holding up nicely on tape. Still haven’t come down since the shows ended. lol 4:40 into the “Piper” jam and it’s raging!

  16. whole tour! Says:

World cup final + bane + phish blasting + beers = perfect sunday!

  17. Robear Says:

silly, that’s my buddy’s festival. maybe you can get in on some type of exchange, trade if funds are low….

should be a great one. no rothbury this year. hoxey is small and intimate. should have some great years ahead.

  18. phoammhead Says:

Think I’m going to join you WT!!! 🙂

  19. Gavinsdad Says:

@WT! – chillin man…getting a taste of the South was really a good thing for me. Gonna study some ’10 Hoods on the bus ride home. You gettin any Leg 2 love or waiting to see what develops in Oct-Dec?

  20. whole tour! Says:

I was seriously considering making the trek out to Deer Creek for some leg 2 goodness after the epic times had on the tail end of leg one. Phish is to the point again that if you miss shows, you really feel like your missing out!

If that dosen’t materialize then i’m gonna have to wait and see what fall brings.

Shout outs to the WEST COAST…..ROBEAR!!!

@ phoammhead – right on! On the 7th day Jah! created chillaxin’!

  21. Robear Says:

got room for you on the bus, WholeTour!

bring that infectious energy west, my man!

  22. SillyWilly Says:

Word, Robear, Ill see what I can do. thanks again for the info.

  23. Leo Weaver Says:

@WT…go to Deer Creek! Gonna be a bunch of us there, should be a big time. And hot shows if history is any indication.

  24. SillyWilly Says:

The Drowned from 7/2 is pretty good, too. I like 46 Days coming out of it. Change of pace in a good way. I think Mike’s lines in 46 Days are great, they bring that echo in your stomach boom feeling.

  25. Mr.Palmer Says:
