Weekend Nuggets: The 4th of July

Official Alpharetta Poster

Phish celebrated July 4th with to in Atlanta’s northern suburbs with the third patriotic weekend of their career. Finishing tour with four sets of energetic music, the band created an all-out party vibe for the tour finale. Within the two shows, improvisational highlights emerged in “Bathtub Gin,” “Antelope,” “Tweezer > Slave,” “Jibboo,” and “Piper > Ghost.” Finishing Independence Day with Rage Against the Machine’s ” Killing in the Name,” sandwiched within a comical, revisionist-history “Harpua” narrative,  Phish created their own pyrotechnics for the holiday.

Trey: Lick and Runds…yeah. Uhh, sorry, that’s runs.

  2. lastwaltzer Says:

that is it. Creepy stuff, lots of strange stories about Pennsylvania coal towns. What was really troubling was that there were some people still living in these areas, like the one you mentioned.

  3. Corey Says:

Have I ever said how much I love Rebas? Even McIntyre…

When the “other three” create some musical, patient yet forward moving rhythmic bedding and then Trey gets in and floats over the top, pleading…Well it sounds real nice to these ears. Canandaigua Reba.

Once again, Mike taking the helm and going to new, unexplored places with the bass. He might have been relating to his solo tour, but we have been getting seriously BASSED since last Summer…And it is awesome.

So I was looking at tickets on craigslist and there’s an ad from a site called everyticketonlineDOTcom

theres all kinds of pavilions on there, some of them for what I think is about face, but they’ve also got telluride and greek tickets. Some of the tellurides are going for 1475.

that can’t be legal can it?

when I looked at it I was like Oh man, they’ve got Alpine pavilions for like 55, but something’s gotta be wrong with this right?

what is their strategy? hold tickets til the last second?

  5. SillyWilly Says:

im watching scientists take sperm samples from great white sharks

    sharks are scary

  6. willowed Says:

    Hey boys and girls,
Just checking in. I hope you all had a great weekend!
    Hartford DWD smokes!!
    That is all

  7. lastwaltzer Says:

    railroad earth just starting

  8. BingosBrother Says:

    @Silly : “that can’t be legal can it? ”

No. The back of your ticket clearly states you may not sell your ticket for over face value.

Sorry haven’t got back to you yet. Long weekend and I don’t own a cell phone, much less one with internet. Soon.

  9. SillyWilly Says:

    No worries, Bingos!

    there’s no rush.

and yeah, they’ve got tickets on there for face and some for wayyyy over face.

Im not going to buy from them because even if I buy legal tickets from them it will be supporting a shady operation.

  10. Jtran Says:

Evening everyone..not the greatest game today, but can’t really expect too much..no one wants to lose on that stage.

Gonna spin the show from 10 years ago tonight. Never heard it before.

  11. BingosBrother Says:

Good for you Silly. There are 2 sides to the scalping equation. Scumbag and Custy. Bribe the ticket taker with your cash instead.:)

  12. Guyute711 Says:

    anybody gonna watch umphrey’s?

  13. Jtran Says:

Gonna give it a chance for a couple minutes here. Saw them over the winter (never heard their music before or after the show) and was not that impressed.

  14. Guyute711 Says:

They are one of the bands on XM Jam station that I don’t change the station. They aren’t the greatest but I have heard them lay it down pretty good.

  15. BingosBrother Says:

I’m givin it a shot Guyute.

Anybody know anything about The Budos Band? Think i might check them and Caribou out tomorrow at Millenium Park.

  16. Jtran Says:

    ehh, still not my thing

  17. Jtran Says:

Kinda want to watch Lotus tonight as I’ll be seeing them at a festival later this summer and don’t know the music, but I also have a golf tournament at 7 tomorrow morning. Hmmmm

  18. SillyWilly Says:

    Word, Bingos.

I don’t scalp for philosophic reasons. I hate the control that the culture industry has over artists and if I buy from these online dealers I am participating in the system that I see as corrupt.

Sometimes, you have no other choice but to buy from the TicketBastard, but I try to avoid it.

  19. Guyute711 Says:

Have not heard much Lotus but I have enjoyed what I have heard.

  20. nonoyolker Says:

good looks on the allgood link. umphrey’s is aight. only seen them once or twice and had a pretty good time.

lotus is the shit. i dig them a lot. could be worth staying up for (for everyone else, i need beauty sleep dammit). the album Nomad is pretty sweet, so if anyone wants exposure, start there. it was my boneyard soundtrack with the mrs for a long time. spin and you’ll see why. took her to a show about 4 yrs ago and as soon as the opening track for that album came on, we both started to wildly disrope and make out. then we realized there were 200 sweaty wooks starring curiously at us and we stopped

  21. joe Says:

re: Umphrey’s. They were the #4 jam band today according to some source quoted in that nitrous mafia article in the Village Voice posted here a few days ago. at least they have that going for them.

  22. Phamily Berzerker Says:

    LLFA Nono

So my neighbor across the street has her sister in town from norway with her family. He husband, Atle, is getting the 2009 RR DVDs to go home and digest.

He has only heard studio phish.

Should be interesting next year when we see them again.

  23. joe Says:

is there any way to go back on the stream to watch earlier shows? I understand the concept of stream, so I’lll say no but I’m also not that tech savy sometimes. I’d like to watch a little tea leaf green. They are a more up my ally with a more of a “rock” vibe than whatever it is that you’d call Umphrey’s.
By the way, it looks like Tea leaf is playing in Telluride on the 9th (anniversary of jerry’s death too) when Phish is there. If it’s a late night show, might be fun to check out for those in the area, assuming it’s fairly cheap. Not going to melt your face by any means but a good time rock and roll show that’ll make you tap your toes at least.

  24. phoammhead Says:

I was underwhelmed by the soccer, but I’m sure the Spaniards are happy . . .

  25. Guyute711 Says:

underwhelmed by the soccer? no way
