Weekend Nuggets: The 4th of July

Official Alpharetta Poster

Phish celebrated July 4th with to in Atlanta’s northern suburbs with the third patriotic weekend of their career. Finishing tour with four sets of energetic music, the band created an all-out party vibe for the tour finale. Within the two shows, improvisational highlights emerged in “Bathtub Gin,” “Antelope,” “Tweezer > Slave,” “Jibboo,” and “Piper > Ghost.” Finishing Independence Day with Rage Against the Machine’s ” Killing in the Name,” sandwiched within a comical, revisionist-history “Harpua” narrative,  Phish created their own pyrotechnics for the holiday.

    you’re not your….sorry about that

  2. Jtran Says:

After watching that Walrus video (sick!) going back to listen to the Mike’s. I remember it being big and dark, but haven’t listened since the show.

  3. kayatosh Says:

Undone by phish and the BB again. love it.

  4. Leo Weaver Says:

@willowed…tell Mrs. Willowed hello! And you hit the nail on the head about Robear!

@kaya…ya gotta go man. We’ve all gotten the stink eye a time or three. Just do your chores!

  5. c0wfunk Says:

you can vacuum and BB at the same time.

  6. KWL Says:

off to run some errands & watch a gaelic football match

    later y’all

  7. Jtran Says:

    bring the wife along!

  8. willowed Says:

    I will Leo.
Hey Leo, are you doing any Leg 2? I assume you’re not doing another trip up North for JB or are you?
That’s the only run I can do in Leg 2

  9. Robear Says:

werd phoam. slowly working on a meet-up. a clutch of us bb nerds have a house rented. will try to play some disc golf. looking forward to it.

  10. kayatosh Says:

    Jtran: interesting notion.

  11. kayatosh Says:

don’t know if that would make it more or less fun. I’m leaning towards less.

  12. Jtran Says:

Think about it..Bay Area, lots of stuff to do, great restaurants, parks, hikes, whatever you’re into..stay for a couple more days, go to Yosemite or to wine country…possibilities are endless (p.s. I’m a California noob).

So this Mike’s was pretty sweet. I think these “short” 3.0 Mike’s work well if they want to keep playing crazy Grooves, like >Simple>Walrus>Paug or >Tela, Harpua>Paug. Get the energy up, get people dancing, then melt their faces in the next several minutes.

  13. c0wfunk Says:

damn it’s only a month to telluride too. I need to rent me a car. Just scored us town park camping passes last week – anyone else camping there?

  14. Jtran Says:

Llfa. Have you guys seen Phish together?

  15. kayatosh Says:

Jtran: i know and loev the region. The one kink in the plan is two kids. Do we bring them too? not to the show of course. wow this plan keeps getting crazier.

  16. kayatosh Says:

6/24 – 20 yrs later strecthed out a bit. really cool at the end.

  17. phoammhead Says:

I’m stayin’ at the Nash Hotel about a mile from the venue – ought to be interesting – that place gets mixed reviews on the internet – hope it’s not a complete roach motel . . .

  18. Mr.Palmer Says:

Kaya- you got local grandparents for the kids? That’s the ticket if possible.

  19. c0wfunk Says:

got grandparents or someone who can keep them ?

  20. Leo Weaver Says:

Just doing Deer Creek on leg 2 @willowed. I’ll be back up your way in the fall assuming there are a few shows to hit.

Jtran’s got the right idea about how to include the wife.

  21. Jtran Says:

Don’t ask me about kids, I have no expertise there (or in anything I’ve said really, just throwing out ideas).

If you’ve got the vacation time and can make a trip out of it you could always go solo to the shows, do family stuff during the day, then before or after the run have a couple family days/nights..If I was a kid I’d dig going to Cali

  22. kayatosh Says:

yes, but for three nights? that would be unprecedented. they’ve had them overnight before, but they’re old.

  23. Mr.Palmer Says:

Although there is quite a difference between flying to Cali solo and going as a family of 4. $$$$$

  24. Jtran Says:

Give the kids to Garret C, he’s about their age I’m sure 😉

  25. c0wfunk Says:

yeah your 2k trip just turned into 4k
