Weekend Nuggets: The 4th of July

Official Alpharetta Poster

Phish celebrated July 4th with to in Atlanta’s northern suburbs with the third patriotic weekend of their career. Finishing tour with four sets of energetic music, the band created an all-out party vibe for the tour finale. Within the two shows, improvisational highlights emerged in “Bathtub Gin,” “Antelope,” “Tweezer > Slave,” “Jibboo,” and “Piper > Ghost.” Finishing Independence Day with Rage Against the Machine’s ” Killing in the Name,” sandwiched within a comical, revisionist-history “Harpua” narrative,  Phish created their own pyrotechnics for the holiday.

  11. phoammhead Says:

Yeah, maybe we will – we’re enjoying just chillin’ after the southern run last weekend, if you know what I mean. But, the Big Crafty looks chill. If we go, I’ll give you buzz – I’ve got your phone number plugged in – give me a call, too, if you think about it.

  12. kayatosh Says:

  14. phoammhead Says:

    No, she’s a veteran, for sure – she’s been diggin’ the goods, i.e. good music, for a good while . . . we’ve been havin’ a good time! 🙂

  15. BingosBrother Says:

“went from not really liking, to totally loving ‘Piper’, since return.”

“yeah fella’s, don’t forget to put the Red Rocks ‘Tweezer’ on the 3.0 Keeper list.”

My favorite 3.0 jam, bar none.

“She is gonna give me the stink eye.”

My wife never lets me do this.

  16. Mr.Palmer Says:

Whats the venue called in Broomfield Co.?

  17. phoammhead Says:

I like this Dirt from 6/22 – smooth vibe, for sure.

  18. Robear Says:

    those dates stink. P. U.

  19. Jtran Says:

That and FEFY were the two ballads I was really pumped to hear when they started up. Slow songs yes, but don’t kill sets for me at all because I love them both a heck of a lot.

  20. Mr.Palmer Says:

Ripped through 7/31 , through Backwards Down. As good as i remembered. On to 8/2/09. Don’t remember this Boogie On, 17 minutes? Looks like a great set.

  21. Jtran Says:

    Article on HiddenTrack..summer leg 1 from A to Z

  22. Mr.Palmer Says:

    LLFA!!! from that article ^^^^

D is for Don’t Wanna Be a… Something? – This one goes out to Trey forgetting the lyrics to Waste and making it more of a humorous moment than a folly. This tune felt like a nod to the person who opted for a random “Waste” sign on July 3rd amongst the sea of much more heady “Harpua,” “Peaches” and ‘Forbin’s” signs in Alpharetta. He should have sang, “Don’t Waste your poster board.” Just kidding; Waste is always a welcome addition to a set.

  23. willowed Says:

Hey Miner….I know you’re a New Haven Pizza guy but there’s this place in R.I. called Casserta’s on Federal Hill in Providence.
It blows pepe’s, modern and sally’s out of the water IMO.
If this R.I. rumor holds…..you must go there for a slice!!

  24. phoammhead Says:

Yes, I love FEFY, too, which was awesome at MPP1 – great ballads that don’t create a lull – gotta love them . . . 🙂

  25. c0wfunk Says:

@phoamm – yeah on full chill + work catchup over here this weekend too. We’ll probably just do a spin through for an hour or so maybe. I’ll hit you up and see if our paths sync up.

Headin to Florida (non phish vacation 😉 -though I’ll work throughout) midweek, gettin in some disney world time next week.
