Weekend Nuggets: The 4th of July

Official Alpharetta Poster

Phish celebrated July 4th with to in Atlanta’s northern suburbs with the third patriotic weekend of their career. Finishing tour with four sets of energetic music, the band created an all-out party vibe for the tour finale. Within the two shows, improvisational highlights emerged in “Bathtub Gin,” “Antelope,” “Tweezer > Slave,” “Jibboo,” and “Piper > Ghost.” Finishing Independence Day with Rage Against the Machine’s ” Killing in the Name,” sandwiched within a comical, revisionist-history “Harpua” narrative,  Phish created their own pyrotechnics for the holiday.

first really hot weeks back to back out here. summer took a long time to get here, but she’s arrived, in full force.

flarr, almost ready to get yer greek-on?

  2. phoammhead Says:

World Cup Final is tomorrow, Sunday, right?

  3. flarrdogg Says:

nono- Although maybe not my favorite “jam” of 3.0 (probably Gorge Gin, or Albany 7 below), RR tweez is still my favorite tweez. Miami is great and I really dig MPP 6/26, but that Red Rocks version is absolute fire. Crack-like.

  4. joe Says:

for those of us deprived of phish for the rest of the summer east coast kids. what non-phish shows, if any, are you hitting up?

I’ve got Arcade Fire at BOA Pavillion in S. Boston (former Harborlights) and Rodrigo y Gabriella at the Boston Opera House (birthday present for my girlfriend)

  5. nonoyolker Says:

Wc final tomorrow, 3v4 game now. Germany v uraguay

weather advisory just run on the tv saying “flood warning in effect. Advised to seek higher ground. Don’t drowned” – EPIC!

  6. Robear Says:

click my name for some great post summer, pre-fall music haps.

  7. flarrdogg Says:

Robear- Chomping at the bit. I have to miss Thursday because of school, but I’m in the mix Fri-Sat and I’m doing DC>Alpine. Can’t wait to see them in the flesh. I love technology and easy access to shows/soundborads as much as the next guy, but NOTHING compares to catching ‘It’ Live. Fucking ready for a taste. Let’s hook up down there.

  8. voopa Says:

    Spinning 7/3 II

Man, I can’t not go to the 6th and 7th…$300? Really?

  9. phoammhead Says:

Sneakin’ Sally on 6/22 is the heat – great vocal jam – love it!

    Only 1 Sneakin’ on 1st leg . . . Greek, please!

  10. nonoyolker Says:

@ flarr – my thoughts on tweezers in 3.0 exactly. I like how the rr version flows perfectly, then the full bad deconstructs with the random note decending pattern, then repeats. Really awesome stuff

@ Joe – Boston shows I’m trying to hit: nas & damian Marley, disco biscuits in sept, lotus/sts9, and my buddy is trying to talk me into vampire weekend. I don’t know enough about vw to have an opinion.

  11. Lycanthropist Says:

so this trip has been quite eventful. 1st we get hit on our way in to canada.

then as we are going to check out of hotel we get stuck in an elevator for 40 min.

i swear i am in another Vacation movie.

    anyway how goes the board?
hope all those that grabbed the CF enjoyed it!

  12. Robear Says:

    all knowing phish friends,

listening to the ‘boogie on’ from Red Rocks. around 6 min. mark of ‘morrison jam’, the whole band picks up on a jam theme, that will re-surface later in the year. when and what song was it?

    I’m stumped.

what a great jam, btw! forgot somewhat.

  13. c0wfunk Says:

getting through 7/3II for the first time – holy tweezer>slave batman! Very nicely done. bdtnl has a nice little diversion before climbing back to the end chorus.

  14. Robear Says:

our weekends have been rather uneventful, compared to yours.

hitting some Red Rocks highlights. impressed how it stands up.

  15. Robear Says:

cOw, I swear, on the board I streamed from pawningdrone, you can hear a cat yell ‘ENCORE’ after the ‘Slave’!

  16. Robear Says:

    checking RR ‘Waves’

according to Butter, Mike liked it. will listen for *ting

  17. kayatosh Says:

The greek plans are fading. no way we’re bringing the kids — too much $ and trouble, and the wife doesn’t feel right leaving them w/ her folks for more than one night. So, it would be just me making the trek to california.

However, practical constraints (the expense and distance) and domestic obligations will probably trump this fantasy.

  18. joe Says:

semi-amusing story (well, it is when you are super bored). Working right now and we just had torrential rain. I can see a dude I work with on one of the security cameras with a mop in hand trying to clean up from a leaky ceiling. So, being the nice guy I am, I call him on his phone to see if he needs a hand. I can see him look at the phone and put it back in his pocket. Well then, buddy, fuck you. I was just trying to help douche.

  19. [Not Tom] Marshall Says:

Has Phish ever covered Paradise City (GnR)? I don’t think so. After they pulled off KITN, I’m thinking that they should go for it. Do it this summer outside. The song is epic as is; Phish would only make it better.

  20. ThePigSong Says:

    Yo BBfolk!

Yes @voopa – TWEEZLAVE! Just spun it for the first time.

  21. ThePigSong Says:

Sneakin’ still holds my vote for jam of tour.

Not much type II from Alpharetta, but the heat was def turned UP!!

  22. Mr.Palmer Says:

Robear- almost sounds like a little Twist theme going on during the Boogie On/Morrison jam…..

  23. SillyWilly Says:

Listened to the Merriweather Gin this morning, and I really liked it.

Im still working my way through the re-listens so far. It always takes me 2 or 3 runs through a whole show to feel confident about commenting.

same way with reading for that matter…at least the more heady stuff.

By the way, are you guys savvy to Nutella. Its like icing for adults. I’d put this stuff on anything.

  24. BrandonKayda Says:

Merriweather Gin slays. It slayed live and on re-listen. Full Trey hose there.

So I think I’m going to be jamming with a friend and maybe a few other people within the next few days. I’m on keys. Hell yes

  25. sumodie Says:

^bk, you’re so biased cause you were THERE!!! 8)
