Weekend Nuggets: Two Tuesdays In June

Official Portsmouth Poster

Although the Tuesday night shows of tour didn’t explode like many expected, they still produced some legitimate highlights. Stellar versions of “Bathtub Gin” and “Slave” came out of Portsmouth, Virginia’s first set, while an engaging sequence of “46 Days > Idea > 2001 > Simple” provided the meat of of the second. Canandaigua saw the most significant, non-traditional “Mike’s Groove” of tour, underlined by “I Am the Walrus > Weekapaug,” and also featured a laid-back, jam-filled first set that fit the cool New York evening like a glove.

Time flies too fast….Oswego was 11 years ago today:

Today’s heat in western MA will about match Camp Oswego’s too

  2. sumodie Says:

@garretc: I’ve been very curious to hear how your Camden/MPP trip turned out. I know you got off to a bad start in the airports, I was hoping your trip had a happy ending…did you make it to Camden 1?

  3. butter Says:

    how ya been @sumodie

you comin out for the Greek?

  4. garretc Says:

    I had a blast!

Yeah, I had my airport travails, and so I touched down in Philadelphia at about 10:30 pm, hopped into a cab and went straight to the show. Walked in, bags and all, settled in the first spot I could find on the lawn, and then about 30 seconds later, as I was in the midst of trying to figure out what song they were jamming they transitioned into Crosseyed! So I got to catch almost all of set II, which I’ve come to accept at this point as fate, even though I missed my Timber.

Then I shacked up with Mitch in gavinsdad’s basement and had a great time hanging with those guys, had my face supremely melted by Camden II, then met up with Jtran to head down to catch MPP with a couple of his friends and their crew.

All in all, worth every penny and year off of my life caused by unresolvable anger at Fronteir Airlines!

  5. Mr.Palmer Says:

Man, 11 years ago! It sure was hot, no doubt. Wasn’t the last day of Camp Oswego all during the day too. I kind of remember that last set ending with it still being light out. Or maybe it was the heat messing with my head and memories. Yeah, that’s it, the heat…..

  6. sumodie Says:

@butter: life is hot, er….I mean good here in western mass

yes, I’m so ready to come out and get my greek on! still waiting for those ptbm’s to arrive. also need to confirm plans with my t-ride buddy, as we’re doing the greek/t-ride thangy together

    hope you’re hangin in there….caught some of yesterday’s convo….be strong! I can relate…

  7. sumodie Says:

@garretc: excellent! glad to hear things worked out in the end

I was feeling your frustration as you posted en route to Camden, but I never knew the outcome and was dying to know. And as well all know, you hit the peak of the peak thus far

  8. butter Says:

all is good, the kindling is lit for the Greek

i just got an email from my casino host in Las Vegas, saying Phish will not be playing Vegas this year

i need to talk to him on the phone, not sure about his info

  9. garretc Says:

Yeah sumodie, not a bad group of shows to count as my non-festival firsts!

Stoked for the Greeks, I’m gonna have to crash the meet ups, even though I’m about 99% likely to remain ticketless… Gotta put faces to names knamean?

  10. SillyWilly Says:

I really hope we get a festival this year.

I guess it might be getting kind of late in the year, with no real talk about one, but I would love to add a Phish festi to my life experiences.

  11. sumodie Says:

@mrP: I might add it was 11 years ago today that I first candyflipped -have some of the most vivid memories ever from that day. And somehow I didn’t get sunburned

Oh no, butter’s fanning the rumor mill some more -I so can’t keep up

    Till later….

  12. [Not Tom] Marshall Says:

Dropping back in to plug Inception again. Saw it last night and think it’s the best movie I’ve seen in years. It’s intricate and intelligent. Visually stunning. Leaves you wanting more, like a great movie should.

    Go see it.

  13. butter Says:

    what up Marshall?!?!

  14. SillyWilly Says:

    yeah, Marshall!

I feel like I haven’t been online with you in awhile.

    I hope you’re doing well.

You always support me and give me good advice for law school, so I wanted to let you know that I really love my job working for the prisoners this summer.

I could see myself being a Public Defender. I feel fulfilled when I come home from work, and when a prisoner shakes my hand with a big genuine smile, I really feel like I could make this my career.

I think about you advice often. thanks!

  15. garretc Says:

I second everything Marshall just wrote! Inception was $$$, on the official kaya rating scale!

  16. Jtran Says:

Thirding/fourthing whatever people said on Inception. Such a great time, gonna see it again this week.

  17. garretc Says:

Ahh, Jtran! How are you man? I think I remember you posting something about a new lady friend a couple weeks ago? Hope the tour withdrawals aren’t too bad!

  18. HarryHood Says:

    “obstacles are stepping stones”

^ Pretty soon I’ll be able to cross the Mississippi without getting my feet wet.

  19. [Not Tom] Marshall Says:

Hey Butter, Silly. I’ve been super busy with work (guess all those shows put me behind schedule). Installing keeps me away from the computer most days and then I don’t feel like spending time on it when I get home. Also haven’t been listening to a lot of Phish lately, so not as much need to get on the board. Keeps me grounded to go off the sauce for a while, if you know what I mean. After 18 months of non-stop Phish, I need a break.

But after seeing the movie last night, I had to jump on and give it the plug as I know most people on here will be floored by it.

Silly – great to hear about your job – sounds like you may have found your calling.

  20. SillyWilly Says:

    Thanks, Marshall!

Good luck with your work. I hope it calms down for you.

Are you catching any shows Leg 2?

  21. [Not Tom] Marshall Says:

Plus, when I catch the two Deer Creek shows, it’ll feel “fresh” again. I sort of miss the days back in the mid-90s when I didn’t listen to every show, didn’t know what had been played the night before the show I was catching, etc. Today, you set yourself up for disappointment when you know too much (like listening to the merriweather shows before the southern run).

A break is a good thing. But I’ll be ready to rage on August 12 and 13 for sure. With Leo Weaver ta boot.

  22. [Not Tom] Marshall Says:

Not that I was disappointed with the Southern Run. I thought Raleigh and Charlotte was fantastic. Atlanta too. Not one complaint from me the whole weekend.

  23. HarryHood Says:

If there is a festival in the works for this year than they have done a really good job keeping it under wraps. I find it hard to believe at this point that they have one planned. I’m thinking that the NYC New Year’s run (once confirmed) will the big event of the year even thought it’s not an official festival.

  24. butter Says:

nice Marshall, workin hard is a good thing

you watchin any of the Open?

i’m watching it recorded , Tiger is on the second hole

    you gettin excited for Europe?

  25. SillyWilly Says:

    Oh cool…

well Ill see ya at Deer Creek, Marshall.

I hope I get a chance to shake your hand and drink a beer or something with you in Indiana.
