Weekend Nuggets: Two Tuesdays In June

Official Portsmouth Poster

Although the Tuesday night shows of tour didn’t explode like many expected, they still produced some legitimate highlights. Stellar versions of “Bathtub Gin” and “Slave” came out of Portsmouth, Virginia’s first set, while an engaging sequence of “46 Days > Idea > 2001 > Simple” provided the meat of of the second. Canandaigua saw the most significant, non-traditional “Mike’s Groove” of tour, underlined by “I Am the Walrus > Weekapaug,” and also featured a laid-back, jam-filled first set that fit the cool New York evening like a glove.

  15. Bad Nirvana Cover Band Says:

Screw Chance Fisher. They sound less and less like Nirvana every time I see them.

Getting WAY too jammy for my taste!

  16. Jtran Says:

Hope everyone’s having a good weekend.

Spinning Bug > My Left Toe 6/30/99 as a midday life interlude.

  17. BrandonKayda Says:

That Sun Guy with the Dark Star jam is fantastic. That whole Sun Guy->Rattlesnake->Medicine Daughter->Aluminum Boy is my favorite part of that show, along with the Schizo

  18. wooknsheepsclothing Says:

who is this Chance Fisher and why are they following me?

  19. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

    word BK, good stuff

  20. Jtran Says:

Was reading back, saw you and Mr.C listening to 7/9/03 last night. Link me to a good source? The phishows.com one is horrible, but definitely want to hear that show.

  21. kayatosh Says:

what up kids? Long time no post. just got a spare moment. will have to read back later.

For now, shout out to 6/27 meatstick. love it, especially page’s tone.

and shout out to CJ Chenier and the Red Hot Louisiana Band’s 1995 album, Too Much Fun.

  22. negev79 Says:

    Morning all!

@Robear – what about former residents? I used to live in the Bay Area, but am in Portland now. Driver’s license is OR, but mobile number is (415)…please don’t tax me brah! 😉

Re: all the toga hate…why? I know it evokes frat boy d-bags, etc etc…but imagine if everyone on night 3 really did wear a toga at the greek. Wouldn’t the band think that was funny? Could make for an amusing bustout.

All my burning man, wear burlesque and steam punk to everything people are pooh poohing the togas. Too cool? Bah! I have a disco sparkly toga, that I plan to bring with me, and wear over my regular clothes if the feeling strikes. Will be just as comfortable as I would be without it, and not any more naked (no side boob boys, sorry, but I’m not a young California girl anyway). I say it’s time we take back the toga from the drunk frat kids. There, I said it. 🙂

@Mr C, re: college football convo from a few days ago, I mentioned it to my Dawg and it turns out he used to write for edsbs. I had no idea. But that should give you an idea of the he/she football/phish obsessions that go on in our house.

  23. Mr. Completely Says:

    ha, interesting

my wife and I both are NFL fans, but not college ball…and both Phish fans of course…she’s an old school Niners fan, I’m a freelance Anyone But the Cowboys guy…she’s more 93-94 Phish, I dig the open jams more…so yeah we have some nice debates

re: togas – I have nothing against other people wearing them, I’m just not going to. Seems silly to me. Which is fine. Just not my thing. Also a clear dancing impediment.

Also, anything that lots of people are doing as a group thing, I’m not going to do, most of the time. Contrarian that way. Allergic to peer pressure.

  24. dognamedwilson Says:

Just sent you that email you asked for.

  25. Mr. Completely Says:

    also, bottom line

wearing a costume to a show is like bringing a Waste sign

you’re welcome to do it and more power to you

but don’t get indignant when people make fun of you…come on. Own it. It’s gonna happen. Either be OK with that or don’t do it.

I plan on celebrating Greek heritage in other ways *cough*ahem

…I meant by going out for saganaki and dolmas one day! Jeez! grow up.
