Weekend Nuggets: Two Tuesdays In June

Official Portsmouth Poster

Although the Tuesday night shows of tour didn’t explode like many expected, they still produced some legitimate highlights. Stellar versions of “Bathtub Gin” and “Slave” came out of Portsmouth, Virginia’s first set, while an engaging sequence of “46 Days > Idea > 2001 > Simple” provided the meat of of the second. Canandaigua saw the most significant, non-traditional “Mike’s Groove” of tour, underlined by “I Am the Walrus > Weekapaug,” and also featured a laid-back, jam-filled first set that fit the cool New York evening like a glove.

according to this mix, apparently Mr. Fishman was playing his drums while buried under a large pile of carpeting, or something.

sorry for the whining, but man, this mix is not what I’ve gotten used to…hey, I can hear PAge OK tho…

  2. Mr. Completely Says:

oh, but now that’s how you do a smooth transition!

    Piper > Weekapaug, flawless

…and immediately the vocals are off, LOL, but ok that was nice

  3. Mr.Miner Says:

go directly to the second set…

  4. Mr.Miner Says:

but yeah..piper > week is solid

  5. El Duderino Says:

Listening back to ’03 & ’04 sbds you can clearly hear opposite styles in engineering between Paul and Gerry. While technology has a lot to do with how the ’09 & ’10 Phish sounds, it just very clear that Gerry knows a little more about the craft IMHO. “03 & ’04 sounds like an opiated wash of a waterfall. While ’09 – ’10 is more as Leo W. put it… Fractal Phish!

^ lol..this tour was the first livephish releases

  7. Mr.Miner Says:

paul = crank trey regardless of whats going on…

  8. Mr.Palmer Says:

Sounds like a typical 2.0 show. Sloppy band w/ moments of greatness.

Carini>Wolfman’s 12.28.98 is flat out nasty!

  9. Mr. Completely Says:

yeah after this Week wraps up in a sec I’m jumping to the Tube

pretty nice Week jam, funky business

@dude, it is a “wash” for sure, just kind of a flat, undifferentiated sound. This is worse than the other 2.0 sbds I’ve been listening to recently, though most of them are from summer…I might hit 2.26 or 2.28 next to compare the mixes (also because they are hot shows)

  10. Mr. Completely Says:

it also suffers badly in comparison b/c in the car I’ve been listening to the GD “Steppin’ Out” official release which is a particularly superb mix, especially in the drums, which are just razor sharp

in other words I know I’m making this mix sounds like a bigger deal than it actually is, just very noticeable right now

  11. kayatosh Says:

    “flat, undifferentiated sound. ”

a lot like there live sound in 2.0.

  12. phoammhead Says:

    i’m spinning some of 6/19/04 . . . scents and subtle sounds i like . . . walls of the cave i like . . . will get to the 30+min piper here shortly . . .

  13. Mr. Completely Says:

    now we’re Tubin’

right in the heart of the Ph 2.0 power curve

  14. Mr. Completely Says:

fish is such a badass in jams like this

  15. Mr.Miner Says:

    “flat, undifferentiated sound. ”

“a lot like there live sound in 2.0.”

^ this is just not true if you are talking about their live music….not sure you are though

  16. Mr. Completely Says:

almost a total faceplant on the blues-rock bridge, unsurprisingly. slick Tube jam tho

  17. Mr. Completely Says:

I meant the mix in the LP release, I think he meant the live mix at the shows (not the performance)

I only saw 6 shows in 2.0 and had killer locations for all 6 so what I heard sounded great mixwise across the board…one of the Gorge shows was a little windy/quiet as it sometimes is

  18. Mr. Completely Says:

it’s a little fucked up to hear Trey with “Jerry voice” – dry-throated croaks, etc

  19. kayatosh Says:

I am basing my comment on 2-25-2003 — my least favorite phish experience due in large part to the sound being way to loud, distorted, muddy and undifferentiated. Could have been the venue or my location.

at the most recent phish shows at this venue, 11-24 and 11-25-2009, I found the sound much improved, especially on night two when I was much closer to the stage.

  20. BlackEyedKaty Says:

hey miner, you wearing a toga to the 3rd night at the greek…

  21. Mr. Completely Says:

lol very close to a Blues Brothers theme jam in this sweet Gin

  22. Mr. Completely Says:

Miner, I will pay you five dollars if you wear the toga

    think about it

five whole dollars to spend however you choose

can’t be too picky in today’s economy

  23. phoammhead Says:

    LLFA – five dollars – I’ll add $10, miner . . .

  24. Mr.Miner Says:

    lol. umm, no thank you?

  25. phoammhead Says:

Type II jammin’ definition: you don’t know what the phuck it is . . . but you’re lovin’ it!
