Weekend Nuggets: SPAC 2010

DOWNLOAD OF THE WEEKEND:

With just under two weeks before Phish kicks off a three-day party in the Bay Area, SPAC’s finale is the last show remaining from Leg I’s download series. Highlighted by a strong first set and a sublime sequence of “Drowned > Swept Away > Steep,” Phish concluded their Northeastern with a relatively tame, song-based outing.

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know that phishthoughts works in China!

  5. phoammhead Says:

    aj,

wow – with censorship and all and the highly classified and moreover objectionable content of this site, i figured it would be blocked 😉

  6. angryjoggerz Says:

Me too! I guess Phish always wins.

  7. angryjoggerz Says:

I just wrote this up for the PhishStats facebook page but it’s a cool story so…

19 years ago today was the one time I was allowed to see a soundcheck. Then road manager Andrew Fishbeck needed some photocopies and traded a guest listing for a ride. Nothing like seeing Phish and the GCH do the Sesame Street Theme and Superstition in an empty club. Post show, I saw Page in the lot and bummed a dime for a Dr. Pepper, so Phish paid me to attend this one.

The main memory of this night – despite the great show – is of the drive back to Baltimore from Charlottesville. It was 3 AM and I was listening to the rather creepy 8/27/72 while driving along civil war battlefields on US 29. Off in the distance were pretty constant lightning flashes.

I didn’t experience any rain until just outside the Capitol Beltway but then it started to POUR. There was tons of lightning but no thunder until BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!! right on top of my car. It was all I could do to maintain control on 495 (the rerouting of the Beltway happened later) as the road was a river. I finally made it to 95, headed towards Baltimore, and about 2 miles north of the Beltway, the rain was gone. The storm was stalled over DC.

The next day I saw reports from the DC news of people navigating roads in rowboats.

Nice story ZZYZX- was that one of the Bayou shows?

Mornin’, folks. I’m thinking of doing a few aud remasters a la Kenny Powers et al, just to spruce up a few of my favorite shows. I did a test-run yesterday of my first show, 12/28/98. Here’s a link to Carini:

    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2925187/2-01%20Carini%20_.mp3

If anyone would be so kind as to give me feedback on how it sounds to your ears, I’d appreciate it. When it’s all done I’ll put the whole show up for you all to grab – and any others I do as well. Thanks!

Oh, right: lineage. I couldn’t find a lossless version of this show on etree, so I used the mp3s in Miner’s audio archive. Ideally I would use lossless as my starting point in any further work; this is really just a quick-and-dirty test.

  11. zzyzx Says:

    No, it was at Trax.

  12. BrandonKayda Says:

    Good morning BB

  13. Gavinsdad Says:

No irony in that full circle eh ZZ? Trax mgmt then, trax mgmt now. Thanks for sharing your early memories, wish mine from 90 shows were as vivid.

@BK – just wanted to make sure to second garretc’s mention of bob d’s rolling thunder revue shows. Legacy released a nice set of live songs as a part of their bootleg series. I want to also recommend “new morning”, an oft-overlooked early Bob album that features 2 of my very favorite songs “went to see the gypsy” and “the man in me” (also features 2 amazingly bad clunkers but skip over those)

also, per last nites 12/29 or 12/30/97 shows…in the end I’m just glad I was able to see both of them…didn’t realize they were as legendary as they become in the moment. I love 12/29 but I think I’m giving the edge to 12/30 for the Izabella hood and the encore just because of my memories of being with my crew for that set. Were were in a great unpatrolled portal over fishs shoulder. Great shows 🙂

  14. Gavinsdad Says:

And projmersch…I really hope your handle is a nod to the Minutemen album (ep actually) of the same name?? I was just pimpin the Minutemen two nites ago.

  15. Gavinsdad Says:

Heading back home after a week at the shore with the fam…bittersweet…much music to study at work this week (’10 lights and rnrs)

    later y’all

  16. willowed Says:

I’ve been waking up with these weird feeling surrounding phish.
A week or so ago I got this feeling that:
There will be a 50 minute jam during this Leg. Just a hunch but I have a feeling its coming. I posted my feelings on Miner’s Light wrtite up.
This morning I woke up with this
Similar to the Saw It Again madness there will be a set that focuses on 20 Years Later. I don’t know where and I don’t know when, but mark my words, there will be a set that melts faces and it will include a 20 Years Later sandwich or a 20 Years Later centerpiece.

  17. tela'smuff Says:

    @zzyzx – what’s your facebook page?

  18. lastwaltzer Says:

    Morning all!

I listened to 10/14/95 last night, GREAT show. MMW sit in on YEM, Kung>free, Stash>catapult, it’s ice, great playing all around.

Also saw Inception, let me just say it was very disappointing. Thought it had lots of potential but fell flat.

    @Aj,

    where in china are you?

  19. zzyzx Says:

    Phish Stats facebook page.

Gavin’s – this is what happens when you go to shows sober 🙂

Gavin’s – this is what happens when you go to shows sober

    ^I knew that was coming

  22. zzyzx Says:

OTOH, I don’t have those great dr00g stories that some of you do so, 6 of one…

  23. Luther Justice Says:

^I’m glad you were sober and can remember all of your adventures because you’ve had some awesome experiences. I’ve had a lot of fun and I wouldn’t trade my adventures, but I wish I had a more vivid memory of a lot of them.

  24. Gavinsdad Says:

Zz – touché man…i know you don’t need to keep track of the Bbers, but do keep in mind that I saw phish 100% clean and sober from Summer 1993 thru Summer 2004. I’ve seen both sides of the fence and more sober Phish than non.

  25. Gavinsdad Says:

^actually saw TAB incarnations sober too 04-summer 07. Would seems phish this way during that time but, um, they weren’t playing.
