Miner’s Picks: Summer 2010 – Leg I

6.27.2010 - Merriweather (Graham Lucas)

After several weeks of listening and analysis in the Phisht Thoughts sound labs, the time has come to unveil the latest installment of “Miner’s Picks” for the first leg of summer tour. Because first sets and second sets contained such divergent vibes over the month, I’ve split the picks into a highlight-reel setlist, containing Set I, Set II, and an Encore. Though it was hard at times, I limited myself to one version of each song, so there are no repeats throughout this seven-plus hour compilation. With only a week and a half to go before The Greek kicks off Leg Two, here’s an audio retrospective of Phish’s first month of 2010. Enjoy the selections!

ha didn’t crap on it, but nowhere near as good as anyone is saying it is. well i guess for hollywood these days it is

  2. Mr.Palmer Says:

I heard that new Jolie movie Salt has one of the greatest endings of any movie. That’s all i know. Rest of the movie, not great, but the ending makes it worth it. Not that i would go see it till it out on dvd anyway though.

  3. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

    but yeah

  4. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

they all die in the end

  5. ChefBradford Says:

I need to watch the Toy Story movies (only saw the first), because I’ve heard so much good about the new one. Watched about half of The Iron Giant last night, and it was fantastic. Made around 1998 by the same guy that (I think) wrote and directed The Incredibles, but not a Pixar film. Excellent though

finish it tomorrow when I go home

  6. BingosBrother Says:

Toy Story 3 was dank as fuck. Ken and Barbie killed it. Geniuses over there. Superb craftmanship.

  7. BingosBrother Says:

@Chef : check out Monsters Inc. if you haven’t. Very heady stuff. Serious.

  8. Mr. Completely Says:

you didn’t just spoil the end for real did you @f0ol

  9. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

ha no C, i wouldnt pay to see that lol. also wouldn’t spoil a movie

  10. ChefBradford Says:

Memento and Inception are completely different movies. But I’d happily rewatch either, any time

And I’d say Inception is at least as good as many people are saying it is. Just because it’s popular doesn’t make it bad

  11. Mr. Completely Says:

word @chef, we thought so too

    Iron Giant is excellent!

  12. Jtran Says:

    Evening BB.

6/15/00 – first set Ghost? Yeaaa.

  13. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

movies with no characters = blehj

  14. ChefBradford Says:

Salt looks like mindless fun, like Wanted or From Paris With Love. Absolutely no real redeeming value, just great, mindless fun

Saw Monsters, Inc once, and enjoyed it, though it’s a bit fuzzy.

Wall-E and the Incredibles might be my favorite Pixar flicks. Or Finding Nemo. Or A Bug’s Life. Or Toy Story…fuck

    you get the picture

  15. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

    well movies like that anyway

  16. Mr.Palmer Says:

We introduced the Lion King to my 5 and 3 year old girls this weekend. Have now seen it about 5 times since Saturday morning…

  17. Mr. Completely Says:

with you on the Pixar front @chef

tell us how you really feel, @f0ol 😮

  18. BingosBrother Says:

Same here Chef, not a bad Pixar flick in the bunch. Did they make Up too? Cause that was also excellent.

  19. ChefBradford Says:

“movies with no characters” makes no sense at all when put in the context of Inception

seriously, DiCaprio, Gordon-Levitt, Cotillard, Watanabe, and Hardy all dropped fantastic performances, and their characters were very well portrayed.

My opinion though, that I concede.

  20. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

“tell us how you really feel, @f0ol”

    pixar is overrated.

  21. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

@chef, didn’t say the actors did a bad job.
their characters were terribly written: hollywood cliches whose dialogues was mostly just about advancing the plot

  22. Mr. Completely Says:

we have very different taste in movies I guess

  23. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

    THIS is a movie http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0244316/

  24. BingosBrother Says:

Just saw that Monsters Inc 2 is coming out in 2012 supposedly. Don’t know how I feel about that yet. 1st one was about as perfect as it gets for me.

  25. ChefBradford Says:

    “pixar is overrated”

can be, at times, sure. Anything can be.

But in general, Pixar delivers top-notch movies, in many distinct flavors

Did I like UP? Sure, it delivered in the end. Did I think it deserved a Best Picture nomination? Not at all. But it’s still a pretty fucking good movie, especially when you can compare it to Saw 37, or Cloverfield (now that’s an overrated movie) or whatever
