Miner’s Picks: Summer 2010 – Leg I
After several weeks of listening and analysis in the Phisht Thoughts sound labs, the time has come to unveil the latest installment of “Miner’s Picks” for the first leg of summer tour. Because first sets and second sets contained such divergent vibes over the month, I’ve split the picks into a highlight-reel setlist, containing Set I, Set II, and an Encore. Though it was hard at times, I limited myself to one version of each song, so there are no repeats throughout this seven-plus hour compilation. With only a week and a half to go before The Greek kicks off Leg Two, here’s an audio retrospective of Phish’s first month of 2010. Enjoy the selections!

Much of the dialogue in Inception, especially Ellen Page’s parts, was for exposition.
I’m not a huge film buff though, and know next to nothing about foreign cinema. I respect your goals for cinema, DF, but don’t necessarily agree with some choices. That’s the way it goes, no?
I haven’t seen any D Lynch movies, but just a few days ago put several on my queue. Also put Eraserhead on there, I believe
and yeah love m drive of course
though im pretty sure it makes no sense. was originally gonna be a new lynch tv series, but that fell through so he just made it all fit into one film
Eraserhead was the third Lynch I saw – scared the hell out of me to be honest. It was just so unrelentingly dark.
In heaven, everything is fine…
Blue Velvet was creepy as shit I’ll give you that. Mul. Drive is just so good though – Lost Highway was the first Lynch movie I saw, and it also is one of my fav. movies. Who the fuck is “The Mystery Man”?
A true powerhouse Light>Waves would probably make me mess my shorts
two of, I think, the best post-1.0 vehicles, each capable of glorious light and overpowering (in a good way) darkness
yeah lost highway is a great one too, need to see it again
eraserhead scared the shit out me too, ridiculously creepy
and im out for real, peace
ps guys.
it’s
STEALING TIME>light>waves
anyone here amped for berkeley?
I am going to lose my fucking skull at the Greek Theater next week. Single digit day countdown has commenced.
Nah Mul. Drive made perfect sense after I watched it a few times. It def. threw me for a loop the first couple of times, you just gotta piece it together. The film is definitely not just a collection of random events. It has a pretty clear plot for Lynch I think.
Something Phish related real quick: I’ve been reading this editorial on the 2000 Japan tour tonight:

There’s part 1. For those of you that don’t know much about it it’s real interesting. Maybe it’s interesting for the old-timers too, I dunno.
Anybody up?
@bk
Lurking…
As am I
greek greek greek greek
Greek in what…9 days? I’m incredibly excited for all who is going – Leg II started with a bang last year, we can only hope the same for The Greek/Telluride shows π
@BK
I like the little people that run out of that homeless dude’s bag (or was it into?)
“Fire Walk with me” has always been a fave for lost innocence. Damn teenage years…
@Void
The people who chase around “Betty” at the end of the movie before…well you know what happens π – Yeah, creepy stuff
Never seen Fire Walk With Me
Yeah, awesome movie, really. Thought it was well done.
I like a lot of Lynch’s stuff, though I have see a movie (or two) where I thought, hmm, this may be the last movie Hollywood will ever let him make.” I don’t mean this as a put down, but a testimony to an artist that will so unflinchingly document his own inner view of reality (and mine sometimes too) without compromising to his paying audience (or backers). I know that many people had hoped he would return to form with a “Twin Peaks” when he gave them Mul. Drive (much to their dismay) but I really liked this movie.
Have you ever seen his work on Dune? (another TV mini series released to the big screen instead.)
Sorry, Diane, not Betty. But I have said too much…
No I haven’t seen Dune, I’ve heard of it. Have you ever seen that really old short film he made called The Grandmother. Weird as shit. No dialouge in the entire thing, 30mins long. Creepy as hell
@BK,
No, I have steered clear of that and Eraser Head. I’m not the greatest at compartmentalizing my entertainment and real life adventures from each other… and sometimes (ha) Lynch can strike a little too close to home. I heard he spends a lot of time meditating (or was that.. doing peyote).
Haha “or was that doing peyote” π
I hear he’s a big meditator too – pretty interesting stuff. I should look into meditation more.
Lost Highway freaked me out when I first saw it – warped my fragile little 8th grade mind.
“Her name is RENE…what the fuck is your name?”
I think the Telluride shows will be surreal… The Greek too for that matter. Wish for shows closer to home. Got to check out leg 1 “Miner’s Picks”
I actually couldn’t get into “Lost Highway”… something about that road at night with those lights… I think a little too strange for me at the time.
Telluride will be sick. I’ll be going to a wedding Friday/Sat Greek and probably won’t be around Thursday (re-hearsal dinner) – so I might be going No Spoilers for The Greek…awesome. I hope it goes well.
Paused at 2:00 on The nTelos Gin on Miner’s Picks if you wanna hop on
