My bro-inlaw is my show partner and I will always be a newb to him cause I didn’t see anything pre 1995. 1st show was 12/2/97 (Buried Alive Opener”. Its cool though, I’ve embraced it.

@silly – I LOVED Tropic of Cancer. A good friend of mine is on the board of the Henry Miller library in Big Sur and they do these amazing fundraising concerts every year at the library. They’ve had Henry Rollins, Phillip Glass, Marianne Faithfull and one year, Laurie Anderson, who showed up with her husband – Lou Reed. Unfortunately, I only made it out one year to the benefit when a band called Matmos was playing. They were pretty cool, but pretty “out there” for me.

Funny story – my friend goes to pick up Laurie Anderson at the airport in San Jose to drive her back to Big Sur. He calls me on his cell phone while driving, and whispers into the phone “I’m in the car with Lou Reed RIGHT NOW!” Hahaha.

He said Laurie Anderson was sweet as hell and Lou Reed was essentially terrifying. About what you’d expect.

Oh and re: the whole noob phenom – don’t sweat it! I still remember after I went to my first Dead show in ’88 and a kid in school was SO offended that a newbie poser like me would go see the Dead. Yah, suck it dude. That was the first of many shows for me.

New phans, so long as the love the music, should always be welcomed.

Phish is an experience that will never be taken away from you. No other band can give this type of feeling. It’s a special community and the music is like no other.
Noob or Vet, it doesn’t matter. We are all in this together. This is a special time and we are all truly lucky.
