hey I just read back to 55 to catch up

@oldskool I love your post contrasting 8.5 and 8.6. like randomreader, I disagree aesthetically with the key point – that is, I prefer the Simple to the Tweezer – but your post was so well written it was easy to separate the subjective opinion from the objective analysis.

Other than that I agree with your critique of the choppy aspects of the Friday show in particular – so it goes, eh?

For me it largely comes down to what for me was a flat stretch in the middle of each set of Thursday’s show, the “custy anthem” sections…the playing was crisp throughout, though.

It is another great little Tweezer. Have we had a Tweez stretch out much beyond that length? I don’t think so, and won’t read anyone’s answer, ’cause I’m out for the night

    personal highlight list:

light up, stash, cavernwedgepossumjulius first set closer; SAND!! Holy crap I thought this went on all night it was super dense.. kept coming and going, love what mike did w/ the bassline trey was tearin it up.

Caspian > MLBJ/Space gorgeous with the stars and the mountians just breathtaking

boogie on!! Mike went nuts and then hit the bell 5 times or something totally approved, Trey finally just let him go and go and he went. Piper was a great reset and big time jam.

Bowie I don’t know if it’ll translate but the vibe was there for sure. At the peak I ascended into the peaks of the heavens and sprouted 15 eyes and all was well in the universe. ADITL nice classy way to end it up give the locals something to hang their hats on.

Mighty Quinn seemed like the nice fun way to do a jerry nod. (MLBJ too for those who heard – I was w/ zzyzx that set and he was losin it! )

    night 2 in a minute.

  8. c0wfunk Says:

coil opener w/ the backdrop was perfect. ya mar (regarding lovely day / love you dead , they’ve been going back and forth between those 2 as long as I can remember..)

    Timber got growly

let me lie if ther’es a perfect place – up on the mountain in the bike town at sunset was one. There was this big pink cloud over the horizon utterly sublime. Divided Sky on its heels was gorgeous. Walk away blew it up big time that little jam at the end is still there real nice to hear. Antelope saw it coming but it worked out real nice.

So that’s about the whole set which really was just set 3, not a set 1, I heard this said 3 or 4 times at setbreak.

party time perfect call and mikes was a scorcher nice -> into crosseyed the dance party was fierce nice crawl into hydrogen and then paug more dance party in the mountain.

Funny we live in a world where destiny unbound is the break song? Got real funky here too.

The jam out of carini is probably the jam of the evening and then a real nice free out.

YEM got funky as hell and then blew it up big. Trey’s little speech was nice and shine your light is always welcome.

So maybe that’s not coherent. But hell I was in the rocky mtns this morning so maybe not so bad.

Honorable mention goes to the gondola rides – such a cool way to encounter random folks and learn about the area.

the stewardess announced on our flight from Denver to Indy that they would turn the lights down for the Phish fans, and if that didn’t work they would start serving alcohol soon

    Home after so much travel…

What an amazing place Telluride is. Its like a dream of the perfect town.

As far as shows – I think the Greek run was musically superior to Telluride hands down. Telluride had a ton of rare tunes and a lot of firsts for me (Light Up, Timber, Roses, Destiny, Quinn, Crosseyed, Carini…probably others?), but as far as musical jamming highlights – for me, I think Piper and Carini. Much of the rest was great, solid Phish and lots of cool setlist choices but not jams for the ages.

The Greek on the other hand – that Light, as has been said, was probably the best jam in the past 2 years. Cities was phenomenal. Simple?? WTF. The Tweezer from the Greek is fantastic for me – I’ve listened to it many many times and my only complaint is they didn’t continue the jam instead of playing Fluff (though Fluff was cool for my wife and kid at his first show). The Tweezer from Telluride unfortunately is entirely non-notable.

That was a big disappointment, music-wise, at Telluride, when they stopped the Tweezer. I had hoped they’d throw out the rules and go with patient forever jams in the mountains. But they didn’t really ever let go completely. There seemed to be too much effort to play lots of rare songs and fit in a lot of songs in general.

I thought the Harry Hood at Greek was one for the ages.

Sure there weren’t many bust outs at the Greek, but looking back I couldn’t care less. I hoped for more of what happened at the Greek at Telluride and it only materialized a few brief times. I have my own thoughts about why they played Telluride the way they did. It was an incredible time and far and away the most beautifully scenic Phish show experience ever for me including several fests, Red Rocks, Gorge, etc, etc.

Sorry for the rambling – I guess I’m saying that when the dust settles I’ll be playing the Greek shows on my iPod a lot more often.
