Until Monday…

I’m on a long weekend with my family and will be back Monday with my regularly scheduled breakdown of summer’s second leg.

8.7.10 - The Greek (Wendy Rogell)

Jam of the Day:

Rock and Roll” 8.6.10 II

This underrated jam from The Greek followed up the opening night’s “Disease” as the second example of Phish’s newest jamming style. Look for Fishman’s dynamic rhythms that frame the band’s melodic interplay in the second half of the jam.

Official Telluride Poster (Stout)

A solid, straight-forward rock show in the mountains. “Carini” and “YEM” highlighted the second set, and “Mikes > Crosseyed” ain’t too shabby of a combo either.

I: The Squirming Coil, Stealing Time From the Faulty Plan, Ya Mar, Timber Ho, Let Me Lie, The Divided Sky, Walk Away, Roses Are Free, Limb By Limb, Bouncing Around the Room, Run Like an Antelope

II: Party Time, Mike’s Song > Crosseyed and Painless > I Am Hydrogen > Weekapaug Groove, Destiny Unbound, Carini > Free > Heavy Things, You Enjoy Myself

E: Shine a Light

@Robear: Now’s your chance to move into Phish Central, er…, New England

(good luck with the move, sorry it had to drop so fast)

Are we through talking about the Vegas Wolfman’s yet? Oops… Well, I listened to it again today…
Some of it is really cool. The first 16 or so minutes are great and the last 5 min slinks around in a neat little Twist-ish funky thing (though the aborted Esther would have been time better spent, imo). But those parts aren’t what make it controversial, right? It’s the 10 minutes of freakout space drone in between that divides the opinions… and that part still just doesn’t do it for me. It’s not like it’s bad Phish. I dig some spacey Phish hear and there… just goes on a little too long for me (like 7 minutes too long). I’ve never listened to it stoned, though, so ymmv.

And ftr, anyone that disagrees with me is a pansy.

@Selector – I had really similar thoughts (and thus am not a pansy). I don’t know how long the different sections last because I’ve only listened with my eyes closed, and you kind of lose track of time, but it does seem like there’s a section of ambient stuff that just isn’t really my thing. It’s interesting and enjoyable, but what you refer to as “the Twist-ish funky thing” is closer to why I love the band and the way they communicate. So far I had one baned listening session, but I was kind of “on my way down,” if you will, so I imagine there are better headspaces to be in while listening to this. (Cue comments about the intrinsic connection between Phish and psychedelics.)

Part of that jam was used for one of Phish’s announcement videos, right? Maybe the first one, about Hampton? I definitely recognized it on the first listen.

I need a shot of Vegas Wolfman just to cleanse my palate. After claiming the airways yesterday on a jobsite and playing Phish all day the painters took their revenge. They got to work early today and staked their claim by playing a Kiss FM station all day. OMFG what crap, it sounded like the same song over and over and then I realized they actually were playing the same songs over and over, like 3 or 4 times each. Yikes, what is wrong with the music industry?

  10. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

^i think it was the indio announcement

  11. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

o man jdub i feel for you!!!! have to listen to that SHITSHITSHIT an hour each day at the gym

  12. BingosBrother Says:

    Katy Perry FTW.

  13. RamblinOnMyMind Says:

That SPAC Harpua would have been way better if Katy Perry came out to the audience, found one of the five or ten girls in attendance, and kissed them.

Chick wields a mean paddle though

  14. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

what’s the hotel everyone is staying at in atlantic city??

  15. BingosBrother Says:

That would have been the longest Harpua in history.

Does it make me old if I still call video game controllers paddles?

  16. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

    yes bingos. very, very old.
