"Fee" - 8.12.10 (M. Stein)

After a sloppy opening frame, Phish came back with one of their more creatively constructed sets of tour. “Drowned” brought the band into a new-school rhythmic-ambient jam, while they connected  “Jibboo > Gin” with a seamless segue. Trey left the whale behind on this second set “Bathtub Gin” using his Ocedoc to carve melodies into the summer night. After a quality mid-set interlude, Phish capped the evening by deconstructing “Split” into “Dog-Faced Boy,” and an impressive “Hood” which passes through an unorthodox segment of darkness on  the way to the top. All-in-all, this show is flying under the radar due to larger explosions at The Greek and Alpine Valley.

I: Runaway Jim, Punch You In the Eye, Roggae, Cars Trucks Buses, Sample in a Jar, NICU, Horn, Sugar Shack, Wolfman’s Brother, Time Turns Elastic

II: Drowned > Gotta Jibboo > Bathtub Gin, My Friend, My Friend, Buffalo Bill, Twist, The Horse > Silent in the Morning , Split Open and Melt > Dog Faced Boy, Harry Hood > Golgi Apparatus

E: Fee* > NO2* > Kung* > Fire

    true @Frycan – $ is a factor

another factor for me would be whether I was flying solo – and for me if money happens to be tight at the moment and I’m flying solo, then I might try to go and get that $20 ticket in the lot

but again, only southern showz, fri and sat and first showz in the east on fall tour make for higher than expected demand and the venue at 14,000 is not big, but not tiny either

i believe the only way to get a cheaper than face ticket is to get it in the lot on day of show and i don’t like the stress that can create and don’t want to spend a part of my day hunting down that discounted ticket on the day of the show

Besides the odd segue from Ghost > Mike’s, Greek II Set II was goodness the whole way through, but I felt Greek III topped it as well – which were both topped by JB I, IMNSHO.

I think all can agree that Leg 2 was all killer, no filler.

  3. Frycanthropist Says:

not necessarily tryin to get cheaper than face. Just dont want to pay over

  4. phoammhead Says:

yes, leg 2 was the stuff phish dreams are made of – a lot of shit coming together on that leg

  5. phoammhead Says:

    i gotcha @frycan

my put ins are going on plastique!

College in session, a handful of shows near NE prep schools….I don’t have any insight on ticket availability this go round…with the venue shrinkage across the board I AM wondering if mgmnt is trying to hustle up new fans or simply book venues that reflect actual current NE demand. And considering the fact that the bulk of shows are all or part GA, that decreases the upgrade hustling beforehand.

Guess I’m saying that the market will be tight since the people that really want to go will be making the effort to get to these smaller slighly more intimate shows (much more intimate at Utica obvs)

thank god for all the GA tho….definitely prevents people who PTBM from getting beat on nosebleeds (but increases the size of the pre- show queue…unless youre me, cause I don’t give a lick about that)

my slf and i are working on a budget for our phish tripz – i’ll report back shortly

according to the part i read today in the phish bio. the bomb factory was a big step in tweezers turning point. i’m sure miner could do a lot more justice but i’d start around 94. 93 speed jazz > 94 face melt

  9. Mitch Says:

and i think its about time that miner coffee table book got published. this phish bio is not the first book i’d hand to someone trying to get into phish.

without any real switching around of kid duties, and avoiding the stress of Halloween, I could sneak in and hit August, Utica, Providence, and both Amherst…..

things that make ya’ go ‘hmmmmm’

of course, missing the blow-out manchester and throw down AC blitz.

  11. Robear Says:

flights aren’t turrible, either. save the red eye on the way out…

  12. Mitch Says:

robear, if you make utica happen, do your best to twist my arm. i need a co-enabler still.

  13. Robear Says:

wow, if manchester’s not set-up as the ‘skip show’……

  14. HarryHood Says:

    @ Mitch

I tried to find my post about listening to Light on my drive into work in Northern VT for you, but I can’t remember what day I posted it…… If I can dig it up later, I’ll e-mail it to you…..

  15. Robear Says:

okay, scratch the above idea. 7 + hours from Augusta, Me to Utica, Ny is not for this kid.

  16. ThePigSong Says:

@ Mitch – what funk band were you referring to yesterday?

  17. Frycanthropist Says:

hoping purple and ramblin enjoyed the TSU last night.

feeling a little bad about the zzyzx situation

jamming out the Jibboo video for the first time.

Phish Tripz Budget Estimate for my girlfriend and me

I’m thinking $75 per ticket price including taxes, fees and delivery.

    Travel is from Asheville, NC

Estimates includes gas or flight, tix, accommodations, food, beer/alcohol and miscellaneous

    N Charleston – $455/person; $910 total for 2

    Atlantic City (driving) – $823/person; $1,646 total for 2

    Hampton – $570/person; $1,140 total for 2

New York (5 showz and round trip flight) – $2000/person; $4000 total for 2

Obviously left out a lot of the details, but these estimates are probably pretty close for me until I need more miscellaneous! 😉

  23. Frycanthropist Says:

    yeh i was just teasin…
    the window was open.
