"Fee" - 8.12.10 (M. Stein)

After a sloppy opening frame, Phish came back with one of their more creatively constructed sets of tour. “Drowned” brought the band into a new-school rhythmic-ambient jam, while they connected  “Jibboo > Gin” with a seamless segue. Trey left the whale behind on this second set “Bathtub Gin” using his Ocedoc to carve melodies into the summer night. After a quality mid-set interlude, Phish capped the evening by deconstructing “Split” into “Dog-Faced Boy,” and an impressive “Hood” which passes through an unorthodox segment of darkness on  the way to the top. All-in-all, this show is flying under the radar due to larger explosions at The Greek and Alpine Valley.

this is what I pulled off the greenboard – clicked over there and the thread was already waiting

I’m only about 10 minutes in, but I might end up a sweaty mess tonight

  2. ThePigSong Says:

but dang – don’t these songs have any lyrics?

  3. Mr.Palmer Says:

re : Biscuits…always wanted to know what it meant when a song was “inverted”. I see it a lot on their setlists.

  4. Mr.Miner Says:

and i think its about time that miner coffee table book got published. this phish bio is not the first book i’d hand to someone trying to get into phish.

^ have a proposal into Phish re: use of images. They are being, umm, less than responsive…I’m trying to get this to happen. The use of images will dictate the design and scope of the book, so I’m sitting in Limbo right now…

  5. Mr.Miner Says:

inverted means they jam into the middle of the song, and then when the song comes to its natural end, they segue into the beginning of the song. Then they play the song and jam out of it, into another song where they had originally jammed into the song…creative stuff.

    so in phish terms:

they’d jam out of Tweezer into the Light JAM, then when Trey comes to the end of Light, they’d segue into the beginning of Light and use the Light jam to eventually segue into another song…

hence Tweezer > Light* > Bowie

    * inverted…you essentially get two cool jams, Tweezer >middle of Light and beginning of Light jam >Bowie

  6. Mr.Miner Says:

@ Pig – yes. they do have lyrics, but biscuits are more of an instrumental band…though they def sing…sets are delivered in the DJ/electronica style vs. stop/start concert style…a fusion of both styles I suppose…

  7. Mr.Palmer Says:

2 Light jams then….woah… that sounds pretty wild.

    Tweezer>light jam>light>jam>bowie…. if i’m following you.. that’s nutso.

  8. Mr.Miner Says:

    right Palmer… you got it…

  9. Mr.Miner Says:

it would be a Tweezer/Light jam and a Light > Bowie jam

    This was under moderation earlier…

  11. Mr.Palmer Says:

I was supposed to go see them for the first time a few months ago but the guitarist fucked his wrist up. Show got cancelled, couldn’t make the re-schedule date. Next time…..

  12. Mr.Miner Says:

It would be more like a Tweezer jam that turned into Light slowly, through chord progressions over time, and then a Light jam that went into Bowie/any other song…

  13. ThePigSong Says:

yeah- just a bad joke that we all hear about Phish all the time

  14. Mr. Murph Says:

    @Miner
Can you give me an example of an inverted song (is that Tweezer>Light from an actual show).
And what would you classify the Twist from Fukuoka where they play it, reprise it sorta and then keep jamming?

  15. ThePigSong Says:

how do you distinguish between the ‘tweezer’ jam and the ‘light’ jam?

I guess in order for the inversion it needs to be type I…

  16. gavinsdad Says:

that dude i was with at Philly, NC and JB, @chrisfromphilly, definitely put in his time with Bisco…when you see him on here you can pick his brain…beyond Miner…he’s definitely down with a bunch of those kids….he’s quite a bit younger than me.

  17. Mr.Miner Says:

@ Pig. Phish doesnt do this

  18. Mr.Miner Says:

the jams are all very “type II” because they are always getting/going somewhere they haven’t gone before.

the “tweezer” jam would launch from Tweezer, the Light jam would launch from Light

  19. ThePigSong Says:

yeah I realize we were just using those songs as examples

I think you meant @ Murph

  20. Mr.Miner Says:

I’ve seen hundreds of biscuits shows…those guys are good buddies.

  21. Skyballs Saxscraper Says:

I can swing a mid-week Weekend for the Utica show, methinks. Could possibly do Amherst but it’s not bloody likely…

Always wanted to see Phish play a boiler room. “It was HOT!”

  22. Mr.Miner Says:

yes. I meant @ murph. word

  23. Mr.Palmer Says:

: adds Disco Biscuits channel to Pandora radio:

  24. gavinsdad Says:

oh yeah, GD 6/10/76 boston’s mission in the rain….just sayin.

  25. phoammhead Says:

Miner, how many phish showz have you seen, if you don’t mind my asking?
