Ten Tunes For Friday

6.26.10 (Graham Lucas)

It’s Friday; and with a little time in between tours, the situation called for another installment of “Ten Tunes.” This week, new and old Phish jams are juxtaposed side by side in playlist that spans over a decade. Enjoy the weekend – but first, enjoy the selections below.

Wolfman’s > Piper” 10.30.09 II – With all the focus on Indio falling on the Exile and acoustic sets, this jam from the night before Halloween continues to fly under the radar. With a trip to the other side in “Wolfman’s” and an “I Just Wanna’ See His Face” jam in “Piper,” this segment is a true ’09 highlight.

Ghost” 9.8.00 I – On opening night of tour in Albany, Phish dropped this “Ghost” as the third song to kick off Fall 2000.

Tweezer > Theme” 6.18.10 Hartford II – This groove-laced “Tweezer” from Hartford during Summer’s first leg still gets plenty of play in my current rotation.

12.4.09 (G.Lucas)

Yamar” 7.25.98 I – While much of the focus falls on the second set from this Austin show, Phish took “Yamar” for a ride in the first half.

Timber” 6.24.10 I – Musical density at its finest – 2010 style.

Reba” 8.14.96 II – Before Hersheypark Stadium had a revamped sound system and rubberized dance floors, Phish still raged Chocolate City. In the band’s one stop between Deer Creek and The Clifford Ball, Phish played a wildly underrated show at Hershey that featured this gorgeous, first set “Reba.”

Antelope” 11.8.98 II – This dynamic “Antelope” punctuated a spirited Saturday night of rock and roll at UIC ’98.

Slave” 8.7.10 II – Capping this summer’s Greek run in style, this “Slave” concludes Friday’s Ten Tunes with similar majesty.

That Alpine ’99 Fluffhead may be Phish’s best “jam” segment ever IMHO

    ^ come on now, Dude…

When they had Jerry/GD day at Phone Company Park this past 8/9, Walton was on the SF sports station that morning.

He took the opportunity to make every single Dead lyric/sports analogy possible. And it was great! Podcast is gone from their website, unfortunately.

thanks Miner. really makes my afternoon a hair brighter.
that reba helped, but this is what I’ve been looking forward to.

@JP – I don’t agree that KDF has taken over for Birds, as I think the latter has had more than a smattering of memorable improv stem from it. I definitely miss me a jammed-out Birds, really hoping for it this fall.

    Good summary.

    No doubt GP

Greece just kicked the can down the road. Part of the recent rally though has been on better than expected Greek data. just want to ride my longs a couple more weeks.

Japans little intervention is a joke. Everyones just waiting for the dust to settle to jump back in at better levels

Is someone in need of some bucking up?

I haven’t seen much from you today that seems in the realm of bubbly or effervescent.

We are here to hash it out. What’s got you down?

@aw – I think the market will find a bottom in October and Bull Market will start in earnest. Until then, just trading in a range.

The birds from 11/24/09 in Philly was nice. It wasn’t 07/25/99, but it was pretty good for 3.0.

  12. albert walker Says:

I see a new round of quant easing at the Nov 2 fed meeting helping us finally breaking out of this range

markets also historically rally out of the midterm elections

I feel though early 2011 world growth levels come down as China has to slow down their stimulus fueled over heating. With most companies getting all their growth currently from China this will drag all of us barely getting by enough to hit the markets.

We test old lows early 2011 and settle around mid year.

I really think we’re gonna get another wash out before the bull market starts.

I got real long when we bounced on July 1 and have done real good riding this tech rally. just hope it has some more legs before flaming out.

    Paging Dr. Herman.

Funny story regarding todays Hershey Reba. Thought we were gonna make it from DC on time to the point of using most of the last of our $ to grab tix from some dickheads on the way(still have my unused one). Miss the show by a couple hours, chilling in a 7-11 parking lot cooling our heels when some local high schoolers pull up. Ask them whats fun in hershey, they say follow us to our house, we’re havin a kegger. So, here we are, a buncha dirty hippies gettin fucked up at a hershey house party. Great party. Watchin these kids box each other, bustin holes in the wall cause they said their was a lb of herb they lost in one of the walls and we could have it if we found it, great times…until…me and a girl were puffin on glass and they thought it was crack so they gave us the boot at about 5AM. Slept in the bus on the side of the road. One of those local girls that we introduced to Phish still goes to shows to this day.

    Happy Friday, BB.

This has been the week from hell at work like I haven’t experienced in a few years.

Anyway, I just got the confirmation from Ticketmaster that my AC 3 Packs are printed and about to ship so that gave me a reason to smile.

Plus, I just saw that Karl Denson and Maceo Parker are going out on tour this fall and are stopping in Boston. That will no doubt be a funky good time!

  24. c0wfunk Says:

damn I figured I’d get some kang bashing at least .. ya’ll are off yer game.
