Ten Tunes For Friday

6.26.10 (Graham Lucas)

It’s Friday; and with a little time in between tours, the situation called for another installment of “Ten Tunes.” This week, new and old Phish jams are juxtaposed side by side in playlist that spans over a decade. Enjoy the weekend – but first, enjoy the selections below.

***

Wolfman’s > Piper” 10.30.09 II – With all the focus on Indio falling on the Exile and acoustic sets, this jam from the night before Halloween continues to fly under the radar. With a trip to the other side in “Wolfman’s” and an “I Just Wanna’ See His Face” jam in “Piper,” this segment is a true ’09 highlight.

***

Ghost” 9.8.00 I – On opening night of tour in Albany, Phish dropped this “Ghost” as the third song to kick off Fall 2000.

***

Tweezer > Theme” 6.18.10 Hartford II – This groove-laced “Tweezer” from Hartford during Summer’s first leg still gets plenty of play in my current rotation.

***

12.4.09 (G.Lucas)

***

Yamar” 7.25.98 I – While much of the focus falls on the second set from this Austin show, Phish took “Yamar” for a ride in the first half.

***

Timber” 6.24.10 I – Musical density at its finest – 2010 style.

[audio:http://phishthoughts.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/ph2010-06-24t08.mp3]

***

Reba” 8.14.96 II – Before Hersheypark Stadium had a revamped sound system and rubberized dance floors, Phish still raged Chocolate City. In the band’s one stop between Deer Creek and The Clifford Ball, Phish played a wildly underrated show at Hershey that featured this gorgeous, first set “Reba.”

***

Antelope” 11.8.98 II – This dynamic “Antelope” punctuated a spirited Saturday night of rock and roll at UIC ’98.

***

Slave” 8.7.10 II – Capping this summer’s Greek run in style, this “Slave” concludes Friday’s Ten Tunes with similar majesty.

“Best Tweezer of 2010 IMO – better than second leg Tweezers for deep psychedelica. I’m pretty sure I thought Trey’s guitar was going to knock me over at one point during that jam”

^ Phish is pretty powerful when you’re there, eh BK?

  2. jdub Says:

I am visiting family in CO but it feels like my family has gotten bigger. Awesome.

I love all the buildups mentioned but I am a sucker for the Reba drop. Gets me every time. And the Bowie drop is a close second.

  3. willowed Says:

I fell over at the 2009 MSG show night 2
No joke……If I recall they clsoed the second set with Julius..I could be wrong. I fell over during a trza face melting.
I wasn’t even that banged up

  4. KWL Says:

i’m not going to lie willowed, i wish i still pictured you as the actual willow

  5. jdub Says:

Loved those MSG shows Willowed. I believe Julius was the closer for night 2. A rager if I recall.

  6. willowed Says:

Nope…I’m a normal sized chubby italian

  7. jdub Says:

Some wife time for me right now. Enjoy your evenings.

  8. willowed Says:

Yup…It was night 2…the night of the second set funk set

  9. RamblinOnMyMind Says:

I haven’t listened to Phish or checked the board all week…I feel like I just went off of some training regimen and need to get reacclimated. Although, five days without Phish is what most people would call “healthy.” I certainly take big breaks from time to time, but this was unintentional.

@Robear – I’m reading back and saw you looking for some Buddy Guy. Maybe somebody already hooked you up, but if not, I can get some stuff going on my mediafire. Or @ anyone else looking for Mr. Guy.

  10. kayatosh Says:

BK: mellow mood and walfredo were pretty poor at MPP, throwaways at best. 6/26 has the better set I, although i do remember liking gin from 6/27 set I.

  11. willowed Says:

So my daughter is into Ipods and all this shit…anything where she can wear head phones. I came home today and she is listening to Billy Breathes (album not song). She is listening to Theme and she says…dad…this song must be hard to play???
    She’s freakin great.
Then I found her listeing to Salina Gomez (I Carly) an hour later and I was sad.

  12. kayatosh Says:

still can’t get over how one dude (willowed) randomly says “did you see alexi lalas at clifford ball? pretty sure i was next to him” and another dude (TIII)within moments says, i think that was me. and it was. — $$$

then BK talkin up 6/26 and his post is timestamped 6/26. magic

  13. willowed Says:

not only that Kaya but a few months back I made a post about Fenway 2009. Nonyolker was like…willowed were you hanging out on top of a roof on the north side? I said yes. He was like..was a dude wearing a b ball jersey…I said yes. He was like…that was my place. we raged pre show Fenway and I had no idea.

  14. BrandonKayda Says:

That Gin is amazing, @kaya – that was my peak moment of that set I along with Divided Sky/Tela/Antelope

    @Miner

Yes. I just remember there is some point in that jam where he had this weird whammy-filled dissonant blast of sound going, and that was where I almost fell I think. Trey was messing with my head.

Then the 3min ambient fade out was incredible too, I just remember at one point being like “this shit is scary”. My dad thought it was “too weird”, which makes it even better haha.

Perfectly placed Horse->Silent as a nice breather, then Wolfman’s!? Incredible. Got a Slave to The Traffic Light, double encore w/ ripping GTBT to close too.

Say what you will about MPP lawn, that was incredible. Met some great people on night one (and two). Love it

  15. willowed Says:

ok boys. Have to get some sleep. My daughter has an early soccer game tomorrow.
    Need to catch some z’s
    enjoy the night!!!

go out and do something special tonight!

  16. kayatosh Says:

    that’s awesome, willowed. the connection.

AC too may hold some fun times for the denizens of the BB.

  17. kayatosh Says:

    i’m gonna roll too. PEACE

adventures in phishland to be continued . . .

  18. Jtran Says:

    @Miner

    Thanks (for both answers)!

  19. DukeOfLizards Says:

@Robear, if you’re out there, seeding 1998-07-06 for the next ten hours or so, get it while its hot.

  20. DukeOfLizards Says:

    @BK

MPP1 set II was just classy as hell. Loved that they Tweeprise’d before the encore. Like “yep, we’re well aware of how good that was.

And then assholes like me drove back to jersey before MPP2. Damn job…

  21. KWL Says:

cant believe i don’t know this TTFF ya mar. $$$.

    night bb

  22. RamblinOnMyMind Says:

@Duke – I was reading back and I got multiple links for 7/6/98. Should I try downloading from this source:

    http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=534838

    ??

Is it supposed to take two hours?

  23. DukeOfLizards Says:

    @Ramblin

That’s the one – how many seeders are you showing?

  24. Mr.Palmer Says:

Man, you responsible for sucking me back into 12.31.98? I’ve tried to ween myself off of these shows, but i keep getting pulled back in.

    On Mike’s now … 🙂

  25. Mr.Palmer Says:
