O'Connell Center - Gainesville, FL

In the days following their transformative Halloween in Atlanta, Phish headed back to Florida with Karl Perazzo along for his third and fourth consecutive shows. After their well-documented escapade at Coral Sky in West Palm Beach, the band played this show at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Perazzo played his final two sets before Phish traveled to the Midwest, off and running on their percussive pathway to 1997. Remain In Light took immediate effect as the band continued their collaborative grooving. Check out the late-set “Tweezer” for a show-stopping  highlight featuring this  emerging style of improv.

Jam of the Weekend:

Mike’s Song” 10.29.96 II

Phish blew up this second set “Mike’s Song” in Tallahassee, Florida, the show before Halloween. The band got some down-low practice during “Mike’s” second jam as they grooved significantly on Talking Head’s “Houses In Motion.” With Karl Perazzo on board, this piece really took off.

    A Saturday night spent by my fire pit with an iPod is such a treat. Hope everyone has had enjoyable evening.

    Came across the Gorge Sally while on shuffle and noticed that it has some distinct similarities as the Light jam that took place exactly a year later at the Greek. The Greek Light does not have many if any equals in this era but I was really stunned at the similarities. Greek Light is the mature and refined versioned of the Gorge Sally.

    @Stup, looking forward to catching up with you in 3 weeks time!

    The Kinks – Arthur is such a great album

  8. plord Says:

    @jdub I hear the same thing. I think the Greek Light is missing the clockworks section of the Gorge Sally jam, though, in favor of other highlights that the Sally lacks. By “clockworks” I mean the part where Trey goes into a bouncy, pendulum like figure, and within 2 bars or so Mike is hitting the last two, slightly extended notes along with him, then they both play freely for 2 bars, play the same 2 notes, 2 bar free jam, 2 notes, etc.

    A bit of misinformation flying around today regarding iPods and FLAC HD’s. First off, the Phish downloads are 24/48 and not 24/96. Indio remains the only 24/96 downloads they have done. Second iPods, ipads, iPhones, etc CAN play 24/48 AIFF files. That is the highest bit rate they will play so only Indio would need to be converted at a lower bit rate for portable playplack. Let’s all try and stay away from stating opinions as fact as it can provide confusion and misinformation. Have a nice night 🙂

  15. voidboy Says:

    Hey BB’ers…

  16. voidboy Says:

    @Oldschool,

    “Indio remains the only 24/96 downloads they have done.”

    That show had the most awesome sound… and the fact that they released the show as a (3D) HD movie may have something to do with the “superior” Aud quality. 24/48 seems to be the order of the day for the obvious reasons stated.

  17. verno329 Says:

    just finished watching the Asheville Ghost…wow…I love that jam

  18. Justin Says:

    Thanks for the groovin’ Mike’s from Florida ’96 with Karl Perazzo. Long time Santana fan and actually my first concert ever was Carlos on his birthday in ’94. Phish + Santana = happy fan!

  19. Selector J Says:

    @oldskool
    “First off, the Phish downloads are 24/48 and not 24/96. ”

    As the Beasties might say…
    “Where’d ya get your information from… huh?”

    See the
    phish faq
    They are 24/96 and take up way too much damn space than they need to. Been a sticking point with me for some time now…

    Love 24 bit.
    Hate 96 sample rate.

    96KHz is just stupid. Makes no sense.

  20. Foul_Domain Says:

    I get zzyzx’s FB updates on my news feed every morning from “Phish Stats”

    Pretty interesting, and it’s fun to see people chime in with their own opinions as well. If you haven’t checked it out it’s worth a minute or two.

    Starting the day with some coffee and 7/21/97.

  23. Jtran Says:

  24. William H. Bonney Says:
