O'Connell Center - Gainesville, FL

In the days following their transformative Halloween in Atlanta, Phish headed back to Florida with Karl Perazzo along for his third and fourth consecutive shows. After their well-documented escapade at Coral Sky in West Palm Beach, the band played this show at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Perazzo played his final two sets before Phish traveled to the Midwest, off and running on their percussive pathway to 1997. Remain In Light took immediate effect as the band continued their collaborative grooving. Check out the late-set “Tweezer” for a show-stopping  highlight featuring this  emerging style of improv.

Jam of the Weekend:

Mike’s Song” 10.29.96 II

Phish blew up this second set “Mike’s Song” in Tallahassee, Florida, the show before Halloween. The band got some down-low practice during “Mike’s” second jam as they grooved significantly on Talking Head’s “Houses In Motion.” With Karl Perazzo on board, this piece really took off.

That’s OK…we will still win the AFC East like we always do.

Oldskool- unless Collie has another big game tonight against the Giants (my team BTW) i’m going down.

I didn’t realize Manning vs. Manning was tonight until I just sat down and turned on the TV. A nice surprise.

I listened to 8/1/98 Tweezer twice just now. The first time was like “wtheck why is this such a well known version? Does anything happen?”

I decided I should give it another chance. Second time, really enjoyed it. There’s no huge leads or anything for the duration (20 mins) so if you don’t listen closely you’ll miss it all, but once you focus in on the individuals as part of a whole it really works.

Typical 98 jamming, patient, funky, spacey, nice.

KWL says, “slow day today…. was gone for 4 hours & there were only like 10 posts 😯 ”

Which makes me think..if KWL was “gone” for 4 hours, does this mean the BB is his constant/normal/home etc? llfa

I feel the same way most days

Well, if I got to write the setlists I wouldn’t have constructed last nights Furthur show, but how can you have a bad time tripping face barefoot in the pouring rain 4 rows back from the stage?

    I’ll give you a hint: you can’t!

Woulda been cool to get one of those Eugene setlists though, those look like money!

  9. Dr. Pronoia Says:

^^ happy for you Garret. Sounds like a great experience.

How was the Sugaree? I’d take a great Sugaree with me to a desert island ahead of a lot of other tunes…

Glad you had a blast, sounds like a great time.

@garretc, would have been fun to meet you last night. Had a few beers and hung out behind the soundboard with my brother and summer98 and his wife. I just looked at the Eugene setlist, and we were a little robbed. But we had a great time in the pouring rain.

    Still in town?

  13. Jtran Says:

Also thought of this question today, back in the heyday of Dead/Phish touring (by fans), were most shows majority folks on tour, or was it more balanced between tourers and once and dones?

Did people do “runs” as frequently as they do now, or is that just b/c the fanbase is older now?

  14. Dr. Pronoia Says:

Speaking of furthur, has anyone heard from C since his Eugene show?

Wonder if he wooked out and hopped back on tour?…

  15. Tzara's Ghost Says:

@Dr P that’s funny. Tried to get him up for the Washington show, never heard anything. Didn’t see him last night, but everyone was tucked into their raincoats. Maybe he did tap into his Wook Unconscious. I think he unrepressed it at the Greek. Truly a great sight.

Unfortunately I’m back down in Portland now, I just got back from staying with a friend in Tacoma, we made the jaunt up to Redmond from there. Woulda been cool to put more faces to (screen)names though, another time, I’m sure!

    @Dr. P
Sugaree was amazing! Of course. That makes two shows in a row with a Sugaree for me. This parts kinda weird too: The first time I saw Furthur we got a China Cat > Rider and a Scarlet > Fire, but in my two shows since I’ve gotten standalone Riders AND standalone Fires…

  17. Oldskool Says:

Was listening to some Meters earlier today, Rejuvenation would be a sick Halloween album… Upbeat, soulful, full band interplay, and ripping guitar funk

  18. Oldskool Says:

If anyone is interested, check out It Aint No Use as a perfect example of what I am talking about

  19. Mr.Miner Says:

What up Willowed? You guys just got bitch-slapped in New Jersey. I wouldn’t count your chickens on your AFC title boyeeee!

  20. Mr.Miner Says:

LT looked very unwashedup today 🙂

  21. Mr.Miner Says:

Did people do “runs” as frequently as they do now, or is that just b/c the fanbase is older now?

^ theres still plenty of people that do full tours…

  22. Oldskool Says:

LT looked very good in the pre-season too. Huge turnaround with how Sanchez controlled the team today. Between that and the Dolphins win today the AFC East is going to be a interesting race. Hopefully Revis’ hamstring will not continue to bother him. The one handed Moss catch over Revis was a sick catch though.

  23. Jtran Says:

Realized that, just figured it’s not as prevalent now as, say, 1996 or something

  24. Mr.Miner Says:

any of KP’s remasters consesus “must haves?”
