O'Connell Center - Gainesville, FL

In the days following their transformative Halloween in Atlanta, Phish headed back to Florida with Karl Perazzo along for his third and fourth consecutive shows. After their well-documented escapade at Coral Sky in West Palm Beach, the band played this show at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Perazzo played his final two sets before Phish traveled to the Midwest, off and running on their percussive pathway to 1997. Remain In Light took immediate effect as the band continued their collaborative grooving. Check out the late-set “Tweezer” for a show-stopping  highlight featuring this  emerging style of improv.

Jam of the Weekend:

Mike’s Song” 10.29.96 II

Phish blew up this second set “Mike’s Song” in Tallahassee, Florida, the show before Halloween. The band got some down-low practice during “Mike’s” second jam as they grooved significantly on Talking Head’s “Houses In Motion.” With Karl Perazzo on board, this piece really took off.

Thank you Mr. Miner for the DL of the weekend. We did Tallahassee, ATL, & Gainsville that fall & they were all excellent examples of a transforming era for the band. The specific sound that they picked up during the prep for Remain in Light was clearly evident in all 3 shows & Karl P just puts the sweet sweet horn exactly where it needed to be.
    Thank you!

Robbie the Bear, etc… Thanks for seeding the infamous 7/2/98 source. Listening now and am FINALLY starting to really appreciate the difference in quality between mp3 and lossless. Sounded phenomenal before, transcendent now.

KP- Is that particular show just an anomaly, or are there other auds from Europe ’98 that sound that spectacular? Thanks.

    Hey folks.

About to lock in some tix for Utica, but they’re e-tickets.

Anybody ever been burned with these? My better judgement is telling me to look elsewhere, but the $ is right….

    any thoughts?

  15. kenny powers Says:

    vegas

that is one of the greatest AUDs in the history of recorded music. well, Phish anyway. the combination of that taper’s gear, technique, the size and shape of the venue, the band’s mix that night…the perfect storm of auditory bliss.

i haven’t sampled that tour’s AUDs in a long time so i’ll have to get back re: quality. i know the 2/26/97 AUD is crisp as fuck too.

  16. Foul_Domain Says:

Hey butter – you hitting Utica?

  17. Robear Says:

last time at Costco, they had big umbrellas.

VW, the 7/6/98 LP release is also avail in that FOB aud from the same guy. I can seed it tonight. Haven’t listened yet myself. I guess the 7/2 pull is the holy grail of auds, but the rest of his pulls are supposed to be very good.

This has been my first listen to 7/2/98 in Lossless as well. welcome to my living room, boys!

  18. butter Says:

no Utica for me unfortunately FD

there obviously the riskiest versions of tickets Foul

its all about the source of who you are getting them from…yes people have been burned with them

  19. bigjig Says:

yea just raining $$$ right now:) lazy Sat. First back to back weekend in years with nothing to do. I could get used to this. Looking like the Grape harvest is off for a couple of weeks too, time to work on that short game.

  20. Foul_Domain Says:

Next time then, butter – I want to buy you a drink one of these days.

Thats what I was thinking about the tickets. I think I’ll hold out for hard tix.

  21. kenny powers Says:

ATTN: FiOS customers (and maybe others?)

this weekend is free HBO preview weekend. Be sure to check out the premier of Boardwalk Empire tomorrow night at 9:00 EST (i think). Steve Buscemi as a 1920s prohibition gangster in AC, directed by Scorcese.

    Fuck yeah.

  22. sumodie Says:

  23. BrandonKayda Says:

I have not taken up Lossless listening yet. Fail :/ llfa

  24. kenny powers Says:

    Robear

that is a phenomenal AUD as well! you basically can’t go wrong w/ that taper/gear that tour.

  25. KWL Says:

i got lazy with lossless when i started traveling a lot the last year & a half

not enough HD space or bandwidth (or good audio equipment to hear the difference)

getting the music collection back in shape now that i’m moving back home soon
