O'Connell Center - Gainesville, FL

In the days following their transformative Halloween in Atlanta, Phish headed back to Florida with Karl Perazzo along for his third and fourth consecutive shows. After their well-documented escapade at Coral Sky in West Palm Beach, the band played this show at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Perazzo played his final two sets before Phish traveled to the Midwest, off and running on their percussive pathway to 1997. Remain In Light took immediate effect as the band continued their collaborative grooving. Check out the late-set “Tweezer” for a show-stoppingĀ  highlight featuring thisĀ  emerging style of improv.

Jam of the Weekend:

Mike’s Song” 10.29.96 II

Phish blew up this second set “Mike’s Song” in Tallahassee, Florida, the show before Halloween. The band got some down-low practice during “Mike’s” second jam as they grooved significantly on Talking Head’s “Houses In Motion.” With Karl Perazzo on board, this piece really took off.

honestly it’s totally dependent on your listening equipment. if you don’t have the gear to appreciate the difference it’s a waste of space.

but i like to keep all my shows in FLAC for future/archival purposes. you have every last bit (ha) of resolution that the taper captured, for when you do have the opportunity to appreesh that.

    flac to alac on pc

    answer: dbpoweramp

full version is $38 or something but there’s a free version too (i’ll let you know how it is in 21 days when the full version trial runs out)

after 2 minutes i’m impressed enough with this program to actually buy it though

@foul: if that Utica e-ticket is on ebay, then the seller’s rating is key -probably more important than whether it’s an e-tix or hard tix

Ebay and places like StubHub have buyer protection policies too (but read them first)

Not sure I’d buy an e-tix if contacting someone thru the greenboard or craigslist, unless some sort of trust could be established

Can you meet the seller in Utica?

i need to comb through my AUDs and create a purely quality-driven compilation of sick recordings.

you get the reward for most traveled tour action. you catch shit all over!

  8. kenny powers Says:

    i meant award.

    i really am still drunk.

@kwl: dbpoweramp is what I use -had it for over a year and like it just fine

I only use it for audio converting, though I think it has other applications too

    (won’t do video converting)

  10. Foul_Domain Says:

    Thanks, sumodie.

The sellers ebay rating is 100%, but its going to be a last resort for me.

I may just go with stubhub…

    sorry to keep rambling, but

    The Town

is a great film. saw it last night. say what you will about Ben Affleck, but not only can the dude act, but he can now direct like a motherfucker.

  12. KWL Says:

later folks, have a good one

no college football chatter today–must be a weak saturday??

  13. kenny powers Says:

    War Goddam Eagle.

  14. sumodie Says:

@foul: far be it from me to advise you, but a high enough seller’s rating is pretty solid, IMO

I’d rather buy from a solid seller on ebay than from stubhub

Check out the ebay buyer’s protection policy and see if it applies to your situation

are you in Boston? NYC? it was good meeting you at JB.

I listen to all my music either, in the car (through ipod), Bose sound dock (through ipod), or my computer speakers (imac). Although i do hear the difference between mp3 and lossless, i’m not sure the difference warrants overhauling my entire collection.

On the other hand , i have a brand new 1tb HD due to arrive anyday now.

@kp: I agree my 3.0 touring schedule has been off the charts -I know it won’t be able to continue at the same pace down the road

It does help to live in Phish central too!

Grabbed your 12/31/98 brush-up last night -Mike’s sounded pretty sweet this morn -nice work!

  18. KWL Says:

@kp: likewise. southern CO for the past year. more permanently, syracuse

    @foul/sumo: funny, I would trust stubhub more…

but, foul, try the BB for your ticket needs. wouldn’t surprise me if there were utica extras floating around here somewhere…

    Morning, all!

Did Mango Mitch make it through the Queens Tornado unscathed?
    Anyone hear?

  20. sumodie Says:

while I’ve been doing the lossless thang for a few months now, the most dramatic difference came when I streamed the Greek Light from Miner’s site vs. spinning the lossless version from iTunes over my external Cambridge Soundworks computer speakers

that delicate intricate jamming deserves to be heard in lossless

in fact, it’s time to fire it up again….

  21. kenny powers Says:

    @ Palmer

use that new hard drive to grab every show you see that you don’t already have. not to replace your mp3s with FLACs. all of these digital chores will be alot easier in 5 years than they are now.

  22. sumodie Says:

    Neemor! How’s it going?

Hey, you still need a Sunday UMass ticket? I expect to have a couple extras

  23. kenny powers Says:

thanks guy. that was one of my earliest remasters so it may not be the greatest…but that set I is sick, right?!?

re: college football. Go Zoo-Mass! they were giving Michigan all they could handle till the last 2 minutes of the half when Michigan scored twice to make it 21-17.

(the only thing I really remember about Umass football was that the band used to wake me up on game days parading through campus and stopping outside of my window. It was like 10 or 11 am but that was like the crack of dawn to me at the time). (band was very good, though. Longtime director just died the other day.)
