O'Connell Center - Gainesville, FL

In the days following their transformative Halloween in Atlanta, Phish headed back to Florida with Karl Perazzo along for his third and fourth consecutive shows. After their well-documented escapade at Coral Sky in West Palm Beach, the band played this show at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Perazzo played his final two sets before Phish traveled to the Midwest, off and running on their percussive pathway to 1997. Remain In Light took immediate effect as the band continued their collaborative grooving. Check out the late-set “Tweezer” for a show-stopping  highlight featuring this  emerging style of improv.

Jam of the Weekend:

Mike’s Song” 10.29.96 II

Phish blew up this second set “Mike’s Song” in Tallahassee, Florida, the show before Halloween. The band got some down-low practice during “Mike’s” second jam as they grooved significantly on Talking Head’s “Houses In Motion.” With Karl Perazzo on board, this piece really took off.

funny thing is, I’ve always done Lossless. Figured my hearing was bad enough from so many concerts, don’t want to miss anymore of the music than I have to.

The only shows I have that aren’t lossless are from Miner’s Archive.

I’m new to the torrent thing, but I have never converted a lossless show down to mp3 in my life.

dang, power out @ 10:28 a.m. You all will see this post when it comes back on.

    and, it’s back on.

  17. RamblinOnMyMind Says:

@Robear – you still looking for some Buddy Guy stuff?

  18. Robear Says:

yeah, ramblin’! that would be great.

have you seen the ‘Festival Express’? The Buddy Guy footage is mind blowing. Looking for something from late 60’s, early 70’s.

  19. RamblinOnMyMind Says:

Ok, just give me a little bit of time and I’ll throw some stuff up on my orange link. It will be under “Blues” obviously.

  20. RamblinOnMyMind Says:

Saw Festival Express a couple years ago. I think I remember Buddy’s band playing on the train, but don’t recall anything about the music itself. I’m sure it was cool though.

  24. RamblinOnMyMind Says:

    Awesome, Palmer. thanks!

  25. RamblinOnMyMind Says:

Ok @Rob and anyone else interested, I put some Buddy Guy stuff on my orange link. Just a word on both compilations:

Buddy’s Blues – This is the “best” of his recordings for the legendary Chess label from 1960-1966. This overlaps with Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf recording their most famous stuff on Chess, and Buddy plays with Muddy on some stuff, but that’s on the Muddy Waters compilation.

The Complete Vanguard Recordings – After leaving Chess, Buddy moved to Vanguard and recorded from 1967 to the early ’70’s. This is some of the stuff AW was talking about the other night when he was giving recommendations. Make sure to at least check out the live recordings of “Fever,” “The Things I Used to Do,” and “24 Hours of a Day.” Those have always been favorites of mine.

I’m also going to put up Junior Wells’ Hoodoo Man Blues, on which Buddy Guy plays. I think AW mentioned this one as well. That will be under “Junior Wells” in the blues folder.

    Enjoy!
