A Day Off

The Gorge '09 (Graham Lucas)

With another project in full-swing, I might have a few days off over the next couple weeks. Whether music or a video, however, there will always be something on the site worth checking out each and every day.

Jam of the Day:

Tweezer” 11.11.96 II

Fast-forwarding one week from yesterday’s Gainesville “Tweezer,” here is groove fiesta from Grand Rapids, Michigan. In only eight days, one can hear a significant progression from the Perazzo-assisted rhythms to intentional and slowed-down  Phish funk. Parts of this jam sound like they could be plucked from a 1997 show as the band’s new direction progressed each night of November ’96.

Tenax - 2.21.1997

Winter ’97 in Europe was the final step in discovering the pocket that Phish would explore for the next few years. This show in Florence came ten days before the band’s breakthrough in Hamburg, Germany on March 1, chronicled on Slip Stitch, and Pass. This second set featured dynamic and unfinished versions of “Antelope” and “Reba,” while the first half consisted of only six songs.

I: My Soul, Foam, Down with Disease, The Lizards, Crosseyed and Painless, You Enjoy Myself*

II: Ya Mar, Run Like an Antelope** > Wilson > The Oh Kee Pa Ceremony > AC/DC Bag,  Billy Breathes, Reba** > Waste, Prince Caspian

E: Character Zero

*During the “Wash Uffize Drive Me to Firenze” section of YEM, Fish exclaimed “This is a dream come true!”

** unfinished

I have spent the last couple of weeks starting the transition to lossless. Because a) all the shows sound good, and b) they are easy to obtain, I have started with some of Kenny Power’s remasters, as well as the phishjam10 remasters (that kid loves him some Dec 95 Phish).

The problems I am having with etree are:
    1) I have no idea which source to grab, and I don’t have the time to download and select between 7 sources
    2) most of the time there are no seeders

I am fully aware that these are common issues, but does anyone have any suggestions?

    @ Mr. C. and SWilly

Your conversation has been great, enlightening and downright educational. I liked where Mr. C went with the responsible versus irresponsible via the example of dropping out to grow wolfbane. You forgot painful, cause if I did that now my nads would appear in Aqualady’s vice grips ‘tout de suite’ only to be ‘squoozed’ slowly and for a very long time.

    Here is a simple truth.

Is IS responsible to love Phish.

    ‘Dat’s all I got.

    @gcub

You can check the comments at db.etree.org to see how sources stack up.

Generally, Schoeps pulls are superior, but sometimes they can be a dud too. Some shows will have multiple excellent sources, some none. Some sources have yet to circulate.

I’ve been blessed with high speed internet for over 10 years now, so I’ve been grabbing just about every source for every show when I can (missing many still though), with an emphasis on shows I’ve attended, and the most talked about ones, natch. I have enough HD space now that I can compare sources and just leave the best ones, and archive the rest.

I know this didn’t really answer your 1st question, but as for the 2nd, I’ll seed whatever I can. I’ve helped get some good sources further into circulation from discussions here, and am happy to continue to help in this endeavor.

    I feel like I just wrote a self-appraisal.

  11. Mr.Miner Says:

a good indicator on etree is the number of times a source has been pulled. If one source has 1134 downloads, and one has 101, you know which to pick….ya’ dig?

    Guys/Gals,

I’m in the process of updating the meetup board to reflect the upcoming tour and to get rid of sheets with past shows to avoid clutter. Sorry, I’m a neat freak. I’m also going to use the old Tab for TAB tour and use that for Mike’s November run. I’m gonna try to get it done in the next couple of days so we can plan for shows that are rapidly approaching…….. Any suggestions, e-mail me at BoireC@Hotmail.com

  21. Chuck D Says:

while all of these “things” have something in common, one of these “things” is not like the others; it is superior:

    a. “natch”
    b. “convo”
    c. “swe”
    d. “deece”
    e. “tix”
