Type II Trivia Test

10.30.98 - Indio, CA (Wendy Rogell)

Today we have a game show on Phish Thoughts – the place where the fun never ends. Phish’s jamming has often been described in layman’s terms as ‘type I’ ( contained jamming that adheres to song structures and chord progressions) and ‘type II’ (open jamming that leaves any semblance of the song it came from). Today’s game centers on Phish’s open jamming. Below are ten audio clips – each a few minutes long, and here is the task. You can gain 3 points per audio clip – 1 for identifying the year, 1 for identifying the song, and 1 for identifying the date – for a total of 30 possible points. The winner will win their choice of a “TAB and the Tabernacle” CD or Mike Gordon’s “Moss,” to be delivered in the near future. Please email your entries with ten numbered lines, one for each guess. All entries must be emailed to mrminer@phishthoughts.com by 7 pm pacific on Friday (tomorrow) night. If multiple entries nail a perfect score, the earlier entry will take the prize. Without further ado, here are the audio clips. Good Luck!

    I’d be careful about ordering Woosta tix as trade bait. Not saying it can’t happen, but…

    My Woosta condo has a teeny bathroom but otherwise there’s 1100 square feet. I’ve got a queen bed, 2 couches, 2 queen air mattresses, and a single air mattress. So far I’ve left my wide screen TV and surround sound stereo intact too (but there’s no cable -I wouldn’t think of polluting my precious system with that crap, llfa

    Leave the projectile vomiting to home and it”ll be all good 8)

  2. phoammhead Says:

    ^actually my first night on Tues Dec 28 is only $159 – bargain! The remaining nights are @ $249

  3. Oldskool Says:

    Gonna be some hurtin folks at the 1/01 show…

  4. voopa Says:

    MSG concert capacity is ~22,000

  5. phoammhead Says:

    @Oldskool

    Yes, but still it’s a Saturday nite – won’t be the first time the revelers re-grouped after a nite of debauchery! 😉

  6. garretc Says:

    So Sumodie, does that mean you’re offering a place to stay? Assuming no projectile vomit I mean?

  7. Mr. Completely Says:

    brace for neemor!

  8. jdub Says:

    I feel like i am in a dream and it is the mid ’90s. I always wanted to live on the West Coast, until now.

    There should be no question about demand. They sold out 3 shows at MSG last fall quickly. Worcester has a densely populated radius when you include Boston, NYC, and all of New England. In fact I bet you will see some Halloween/NYE trades.

  9. phoammhead Says:

    ^

    Oh damn, jdub! I was hoping the NYE run showz would lessen the pressure on Halloween run tix – i still need 2 for 10/30 and Halloween!

  10. sumodie Says:

    I expect MSG ticket pressure to be 50% less because there’s no announcement video

    No need to be hurtin’ for the 1/1 show if you carefully plot out your game plan accordingly. I always graph my game plan as such: neuronal receptor density on the x-axis, receptor sensitivity on the y-axis, and then apply an appropriately sized bell curve according to the number of shows locked n loaded

  11. ThePigSong Says:

    I’ll be putting in for 12/30-31

    I’ve got a feeling 1.1.11 there will be easy tickets out front, but what do I know (really).

  12. jdub Says:

    Sumo, are you really prepared to arrive back at your condo after the shows and see 15 spun wannabe w00ks waking up your neighbors.

  13. sumodie Says:

    @garret: I’m sure some BBers can use my condo but I am in the process of putting it on the market -a serious kink factor

    I certainly owe some BBers for previous kindness so we’ll see how room is available once I’ve heard from them

    Dinner time beckons and I’m the chef

  14. phoammhead Says:

    @Sumo

    ^ that’s hilarious!!! 😀

  15. sumodie Says:

    @jdub: we’ll see -being spun may be a requirement to stay there

    Srsly, though, many details yet to be worked out….

  16. halcyon Says:

    Though I will be back east during this run, I don’t think I can make this happen. Even though we have friends in Auburn outside of Worcester, In Laws live outside of Worcester, and my folks are a short train ride into NYC. I am cool with it, and grateful I have seen them the amount I already have this year.

    That being said, I will put in any orders for the BB.

    If my slf shows any interest in going, presumably not, hopefully so, then my mind might change.

    Is Miner going to pull a 12/31 -> Hallucinogen -> 1/1 without any sleep or rest ????? 😛

  17. ThePigSong Says:

    just put on the 03 DJ mix – digging it.

  18. sumodie Says:

    I may jest about plotting out one’s showtime game plan but I also know I’m a little more ‘disciplined’ about it than many

    ::smells burning food::

  19. garretc Says:

    @sumodie

    Yeah, I feel that. Just let me know what’s up, I won’t hold it against you if it doesn’t work out, that’s for sure!

  20. jdub Says:

    Neemor is ninja like. He arrives out of nowhere. Rages in the shadows and then escapes without a trace.

  21. phoammhead Says:

    @sumo

    I enjoy a good time, but I also don’t like destroying myself, if you know what I mean – I’ve done that plenty in the past. So yes, I also plan it out a bit – I want to be feeling great when the lights go down and not just getting over the night before!

  22. jdub Says:

    Sumo- count me in as one of the spun

  23. halcyon Says:

    Jdub

    Weather is real nice right now in the Rockies. Snow fell on the high peaks last night. Had our wood stove kicking the first time since last winter. Looking forward to kicking it in Broomfield.

  24. Mr.Miner Says:

    Is Miner going to pull a 12/31 -> Hallucinogen -> 1/1 without any sleep or rest ????? 😛

    ^ I’ll take a nap.

  25. Mr.Miner Says:

    i’ll be ready. don’t you worry 😉
