Type II Trivia Test

10.30.98 - Indio, CA (Wendy Rogell)

Today we have a game show on Phish Thoughts – the place where the fun never ends. Phish’s jamming has often been described in layman’s terms as ‘type I’ ( contained jamming that adheres to song structures and chord progressions) and ‘type II’ (open jamming that leaves any semblance of the song it came from). Today’s game centers on Phish’s open jamming. Below are ten audio clips – each a few minutes long, and here is the task. You can gain 3 points per audio clip – 1 for identifying the year, 1 for identifying the song, and 1 for identifying the date – for a total of 30 possible points. The winner will win their choice of a “TAB and the Tabernacle” CD or Mike Gordon’s “Moss,” to be delivered in the near future. Please email your entries with ten numbered lines, one for each guess. All entries must be emailed to mrminer@phishthoughts.com by 7 pm pacific on Friday (tomorrow) night. If multiple entries nail a perfect score, the earlier entry will take the prize. Without further ado, here are the audio clips. Good Luck!

  10. Mr.Miner Says:

    Re: Hallucinogen

    With Simon being 2 of the 3 acts of the main acts of the night, Hallucinogen will definitely close the night – or at least go after IM’s live set – thus i can’t see anyway that we could miss Hallucinogen between 1 and 5….kind of annoying to not know the schedule with 87 dollar tickets, but it is what it is…Infected will prob be on for Midnight, since its billed as their show and its NYE, so they will prob go 11:30-2:30…this is all conjecture based on experience…

  11. Mr.Palmer Says:

    The Emp’s got a point.

  12. Mr.Palmer Says:

    Miner- will you squeeze in a biscuits show at T5?

  17. Jtran Says:

    No cash right now to buy 10/31, NY run and psy show, but if tickets are still available as the time approaches I’m definitely gonna do that.

  18. Jtran Says:

    missed Always Sunny tonight, pumped that it’s reairing right now.

    DVR SET

  19. jdub Says:

    Ladies and gentlemen… The One and only Grateful Dead. Nobody does it better. Except Phish, but they just do it different.

    @Palmer, nice one my friend. I’ll take a virtual binger. What is worse, being caught red handed with a bong by your child or in the act between the sheets while you thought he was watching cartoons. The latter left me with crazy thoughts for years. Daddy what are you doing to mommy?

    @Sumo, such a shame that Berkfest ran its’ course. Although one if the disturbing scenes I have witnessed was a Sunday morning at Berkfest. Strolling through what should be a peaceful path in the woods was obliterated by a nitrous war scene. Cracked out kids lying brain dead left and right with balloons still in mouth, while hundreds of dead balloons littering everywhere. A really sad scene.

    Jtran

    I just recently got face tickets for 10/29 on cashortrade. I’ve seen nothing for face for 10/30 or 10/31. I’ve been working at it very persistently and nada. Seems secondary market prices, a.k.a. scalping, for 10/29, 10/30 and 10/31 have been coming down.

  21. jdub Says:

    Too many grammar in my above post, apologies.

    Sounds like NY will experience an implosion of sorts this holiday season.

  22. Jtran Says:

    @Phoam

    Glad you got those 29s. Sorry that didn’t end up happening.

    I’m curious to see whether prices continue to drop as people get out on tour/on lot, or if they go up because the music is so great.

  23. KWL Says:

    the fact that i know some of these jams but can’t pin down a date is making me kinda crazy

  24. phoammhead Says:

    @Sumo

    I agree with you more or less about your analysis of how many tickets to put in for.

  25. jdub Says:

    ‘Grammer errors’ it should read. I should stop posting.
