Monday Morning Music

12.29.09 (Wendy Rogell)

Some beautiful music to start the week…

Reba” 5.16.95 – Lowell, MA

This haunting and exploratory version is one of “Reba’s” most impressive outings.

Slave” 11.29.95 II – Nashville, TN (w/ Bela Fleck)

A gorgeous collaboration with Bela Fleck on banjo.

Harry Hood” 11.16.96 II – Omaha, NE

A version made famous by “the note” that Trey holds for almost four minutes, this “Harry Hood” showcases a band locked, loaded and inspired during November of ’96.

Sneakin’ Sally” 8.8.98 I – Merriweather Post

Some swanky funk from the first set of Merriweather ’98.

YEM” 11.14.98 II – Cincinatti, OH

In this relative dark-horse from Fall ’98, Trey loops a rhythm pattern and narrates an expressive solo atop his own – and Phish’s – dynamic groove.

This new job will include many visits to China, yes. It is way for China focussed and I will be basically maintaining educational relationships between the US and China. Good stuff, hope it goes well. Also means monthly visits to NYC, so maybe will be able to meet up with some of you kind people from time to time. Oh, and NYE.

  5. Mitch Says:

sweet dude. lets get some brews.

  6. angryjoggerz Says:

Sounds good, Mitch. Sorry about that business with your ladyfriend. Hope it all works out for the best.

  7. jdub Says:

So anyone heard of an OG Kush/Sour Deisel mix strain? Whatever it was my cousin supposedly had was an excellent night cap to a family wedding on Saturday. The only problem is I crave more.

  8. kayatosh Says:

stay strong, mitch. you’re a young dude that will come out top.

@joggerz: “My staff cried, which was hard.” come on now. no need to get pornographic.

@palmer: vick = most exciting QB in football and possibly the best right now. Manning — best years behind him. give Vick the colts O line and he’d put up 50+ regularly.

  9. Dr. B Says:

    Hey, kids.

    A late reaction to today’s post…

I’ve heard the Hood with “the note” before, but it never ceases to amaze me each time I give it a listen. The thing is, it’s not about the note itself (it’s not a hard trick to pull, of course). It’s the energy that comes through, is attached to, results from that note. It’s the sheer spontaneity of it. It’s the way the audience just laps it up, fucking loses it. It’s the way I can just picture/feel/see/hear how that must have felt, in that room, that night. And, of course, as Miner points out, it’s in the way the band behind Trey’s one, mythically-proportioned note is just locked in in an almost ferocious manner. Only our boys can pull this kind of shit. Only Phish.

watch those Vick highlights again. and tell me what other QB in the league is making those kind of plays.

    Vick’s vapor action.

    sorry. now i’m sounding cocky.

noticeable gamehendge theme to these tickets … llama for Broomfield, mockingbird for charleston ….

  14. angryjoggerz Says:

where are you guys seeing the tix?

  15. Jtran Says:

Is there a Gamehendge Halloween rumor going around/starting now? Are all PTBMs GH themed?

  16. Themanatee Says:

@Mitch – I know a public defender who is a friend of mine I you want to talk to them

  17. kayatosh Says:

    G’Night yall.

    Go phish!

  18. Themanatee Says:

    In PortLand

  19. Mr.Palmer Says:

Kaya- i was referring to Eli….haha. Vick is definitely one of the most exciting players. Needs to prove it against some better competition before i’m willing to anoint him. Am i going to have to rock my Giants hat and hoodie on 10.30 ? Only phish can bring together an Eagles/ Phillies fan and a Giants/Mets fan..

Gamehenge for Halloween.? huh.. well if thats the case, missing it won’t have as big a sting as it may have otherwise. Probably a big hoax anyhow.

  20. Mr.Palmer Says:

Manatee- Silly was the one looking for the pdx internship fyi.

  21. Mitch Says:

    the manatee,
i think you meant silly. i haven’t broken any laws and thats the only reason id need them.

lots of gamehendge talk going on for AC. others are saying they will drop it the tuesday show that doesnt sell out. others, well they don’t think they are gonna play it this tour.

^i bet 100% that one of these happens

  22. Jtran Says:

I must admit, it’d be a little bit of a letdown if it happened announced (or unannounced I guess) at the Halloween show.

  23. KWL Says:

    so the slf and i were talking about a semi-major decision involving money;

the relevant context: for the last year i’m living off grants, so, you know, i’m not rich, and she has picked up the slack while i can’t

    end of convo:

her: you don’t get to decide because i pay the bills
    me: hey now, i contribute
    her: ya, to waterwheel

zing. well played, lass, well played.

  24. KWL Says:

almost as good as her ‘wo0k down shirts for everyone’ quip in response to my poverty and our collective xmas gift giving
