An Invite By Mike

"The Mossery" Invite

Ever the iconoclast, Mike Gordon has announced an out-of-the-ordinary mid-tour event coming up next Monday, October 18, in New York City. While Phish takes two days off between Charleston and Augusta, Mike will celebrate the release of his new album, Moss, with a participatory party in New York. Mike won’t be playing a usual show, but hosting a free event asking audience members to join him on stage jam for jam sessions with intruments to be provided. If you are driving from South Carolina to Maine, this might be the perfect pit stop, or if you’re in New York, head down to Bleeker Street and share this special night with Mike. Details from his website are below:
You’re invited to “The Mossery,” a free-form musical event on the eve of the release of Mike Gordon’s new studio album, Moss. The event will take place at a fully transformed Kenny’s Castaway on Monday, October 18th in New York City. There’s no cost to get in and you can come, explore and leave as you please. Guests will have the chance to pick up Mike’s new album which hits stores on Tuesday.
Attendees will have the opportunity to play along, with Mike on bass. We supply the instruments and mikes and you show up. We can’t guarantee that everyone will get to (it’s first come, first served), but we’ll rotate as many willing participants through as possible, because a rolling stone gathers no moss.
The first half of the event will start at 7:30pm and continue through 9:00pm, at which point we’ll rotate out all folks, making room for the next flock of people. The second half of the event, with all new participants, will begin at 9:30pm and continue through 11:00pm.

The best thing I ever saw anyone ask Mike: 4 am, in New Orleans at Jazzfest 2004. I don’t even remember who was playing at that point but we were at the Howlin’ Wolf. My friend looked over and said “holy crap – that’s Mike Gordon standing in the corner over there – we have to go talk to him.” So we ran over and there and she was all “Mike! Mike! Hi!…..Uh……………………………………………………..Do you want a piece of gum?”

He did apparently. It’s hard to think of a good question that late at night I guess. It was pretty funny.

I would def get star struck if I ran into Trey or Page, but not Mike or Fishman. I lived in Vermont in the second half of the 90’s and they would both show up randomly at shows in Burlington all the time, to just watch or sometimes sit in with bands. They were always very accessible. I usually just said hey, what’s up? or made a little small talk since I figured they didn’t want to be hassled.

Good morning everyone. As of last night I got my extra ticket for the 29th. So, who needs a ticket for this show. It is a PTBM ticket. Does anyone have any extras for the MSG run that they would doing a ticket for cash and ticket trade (as I need two for this run)? Let me know, otherwise, face plus fees might be how this baby goes down.

Hit me here or at kjrahimi at yahoo dot com.

Hey y’all – just listened to night 3 Broomfield last night catching up on the tour to-date – amazing initial 4 shows, including the ACL phish set for the unitiated with the chops we know on full display (my take)!

Sorry if you’ve already discussed this but: did anyone notice the lyric change in Carini? Thought I heard “everyone was screaming when they saw the (play?) plague” and then definintely “Carini had bubonic plague” at the outro into the jam. Aguilla, by the way, was a wierd dude who always showed up at Slade Hall open mics to read angy poetry… and he scared the shit out of the ram (Marley).

    just trying to help out

The Twist from CO. is very open and paitent. I like very much.
Page get’s all up in that Twist’s junk too.

It made me smile for a long time.

  19. Kaveh Says:

Question: Is there a bad seat in MSG? And are all floor seats great seats? Thanks.

  20. fatbunch Says:

Looking forward to Mike’s shows in the PNW btw. Yes Mike!

    re-posting from yesterday:
Have found Locust the Lurker 2 tx for 12/30 but before he grabs flights and details for the trip to NY from Montana we’re trying to score 2 12/31s in the venue for he and his girl. Any BBers still out there with extras to hook up this old school brother? This is an east coast original phishie who’s doing good work in the world. Just putting it out there for my long-time friend… please send him mail at bisonwild at gmail if you can help him catch the end of ’10.

  22. HenryGale Says:

Saw the JazzFest ’04 story on page 3 an my wife and I also ran into Mike (and Oteil Burbridge) there at the Papa Grows Funk show at the Maple Leaf. Just said hello to him and he was totally cool, although it was kinda awkward standing with him in the bathroom line later that night;)

  23. Mr.palmer Says:

Kaveh. 400 level stinks. Floors are good if you in the front half . If your not there, sides on the 100 or 200 are nice.

  24. fatbunch Says:

    ^ and…
I would put up a pair of A.J. Masthay “Day” and “Night” Coventry prints as trade for a pair of 12/31 tx for Locust the Lurker

Peace out! I’m off to work, will check in later

I am pretty sure you saw that girl that held up the Gordo is my Copilot sign night 3. She was in that same seat all three nights with that sign. How did she get those same seats all 3 nights?
