An Invite By Mike

"The Mossery" Invite

Ever the iconoclast, Mike Gordon has announced an out-of-the-ordinary mid-tour event coming up next Monday, October 18, in New York City. While Phish takes two days off between Charleston and Augusta, Mike will celebrate the release of his new album, Moss, with a participatory party in New York. Mike won’t be playing a usual show, but hosting a free event asking audience members to join him on stage jam for jam sessions with intruments to be provided. If you are driving from South Carolina to Maine, this might be the perfect pit stop, or if you’re in New York, head down to Bleeker Street and share this special night with Mike. Details from his website are below:
You’re invited to “The Mossery,” a free-form musical event on the eve of the release of Mike Gordon’s new studio album, Moss. The event will take place at a fully transformed Kenny’s Castaway on Monday, October 18th in New York City. There’s no cost to get in and you can come, explore and leave as you please. Guests will have the chance to pick up Mike’s new album which hits stores on Tuesday.
Attendees will have the opportunity to play along, with Mike on bass. We supply the instruments and mikes and you show up. We can’t guarantee that everyone will get to (it’s first come, first served), but we’ll rotate as many willing participants through as possible, because a rolling stone gathers no moss.
The first half of the event will start at 7:30pm and continue through 9:00pm, at which point we’ll rotate out all folks, making room for the next flock of people. The second half of the event, with all new participants, will begin at 9:30pm and continue through 11:00pm.

You kids in Charleston are going to have a blast!

    really happy for you all.

Once I get out of work I will be focusing all my best vibes on ChuckTown.

If you suddenly get a huge desire for a Llama opener, you’ll know Silly is with you.

Just gave the Brimfilled Split a spin with a cleansed palatte (been spinning live Janis all morning), my take is this:

Tight composed section>relatively quick drop into a very interesting, atypical (for Split) space>hey! this is an interesting space! let’s noodle for a little!>patient build back into the snarling finale>Trey briefly forgets how to count beats>SPLIT JAM>good night, everyone.

Not a spectacular version by any means, but certainly a promising one.

So what’s the scuttlebutt on this Trey interview? Any predictions as to how it’s going to “influence his playing?” My mind first went to jazz, particularly after that super-jazzy Antelope in Broomfield. Then I thought, how amazing would it be if they did something that required Trey to learn slide??

  18. Kaveh Says:

Anyone looking for a 10/29 ticket? I’ve got a PTBM to sell.

    @Sumo

thanks for the Trey interview link.

I LOVE hearing those kinds of interviews.

Its so awesome to hear Trey speak in terms of magic. It’s like Phish knows exactly what we are feeling, too.

I guess thats gotta be obvious, but it’s great to actually hear his thoughts.

Holy Shit! Or as they say in Internet Typo Land, Hply Sjot!

The wind just took out a 50-ish foot willow tree in our back yard. Plenty of hardcore rain to soften the ground overnight but I did NOT expect that. I was downstairs on the phone, the wife says the sound it made was incredible.

No damage to people, dogs, house, shed, cars, or other trees. Some scrub brush is buried under branch tops though. Time to buy a chainsaw I guess.

My first Nor’easter. That’s pretty hardcore. and now, I think, it’s time to get somebody to take down the OTHER willow, which has obvious carpenter ant issues and would hit the house if the wind came from the South.

  25. angryjoggerz Says:

I mean like dirty dirty. You know, like new definition of dirty, dirty.
