Weekend Nuggets: Mullins Center

10.23.10 - Amherst (Ryan Gilbertie)

DOWNLOADS OF THE WEEKEND:

These weekend’s shows from Amherst were split down the middle. Phish brought a legitimate smoker on Saturday night and a  bona fide snoozefest on Sunday. Coming off three special shows in Augusta, Utica, and Providence, however, these shows just didn’t elevate in the same way. The first night has plenty of engaging jamming in “Tweezer,” Disease > My Friend > Caspian > Halfway to the Moon > Boogie On,” and  set-ending sequence – “Piper > Hood, YEM.” But aside from the first-set “Stash,” Sunday never really got off the ground. The  old-school first set would have been fine had there been any action in the second. But there wasn’t. When a second set’s highlight is “Roggae > Taste” you know something strange is afoot at the Circle K. Another smoking “Bowie” could do nothing to salvage this long-lost second half. But the band popped right back in Manchester like nothing had happened.

Bigjig was nice and sassy last nite. And for the record, I love me some McRib, but I haven’t had one in 3.0

  9. neemor Says:

    Good morning from….Connecticut?
    Not much punch there…

I only caught night one from UMass and that Tweezer is shot from right where I was sitting.
This show was a perfect breather between the madness of Providence and the genius of Manchester.
    What a mini run.

May have to finally bite the bullett (pun sort of intended) and grab that McRib today.
    Have fun errbuddy.
    Off to work or something.

  10. gavinsdad Says:

  11. gavinsdad Says:

That Tweezer is another ideal example of Phish’s new sound.

    Remarkable.

  15. neemor Says:

I would say Prov or Manchester, too, THunter.
Only steamed burger I ever had was a White Castle belly bomb once. Once.

  16. neemor Says:

  17. Jtran Says:

    Morning everybody

After Miner’s post yesterday I’m curious if anyone has any Phish posters they’d be ok selling/getting rid of. Realized I have a perfect spot for one in my new apartment but don’t have any to hang, and would rather not buy off ebay (I know I’ll get something quality from you guys).

So if anyone’s got something please let me know, jtranvt23 at gmail

Also finally digging into this Past Summer Compilation that I missed, well, this past summer. Some great stuff on here.

  18. Jtran Says:

For the record I thought the HP movie was very well done. Makes me want to go back and reread that last book.

  19. gavinsdad Says:

knock on Mitch’s door as well @jtran

  20. Jtran Says:

    @GD

Yea, that’s a good idea. I’ll shoot him an e-mail.

  21. gavinsdad Says:

thx for recs boys. i’ve been listening to all of that. may just run Manch right thru….check the flow. it’s a good exercise as I never get to really listen to full shows. i never really listen to phish at home. mostly at work and in car. at home i play ALBUMS made out of VINYL on my TURNTABLE. my children need to learn where it started. breakfast music = garcia’s “garcia”.

  22. neemor Says:

I guess I’m getting into shows early, because I’m seeing the posters still available every show now.
I don’t recall that being the case before, maybe it’s cuz I spent too much time in the lot pre-showing it.
Now, if only I had the expendable cash to actually *buy* the goods.

For those of us with cash deficiencies or just lots of shows on our lists, the magnets have been a really cool alternative.
I bought the Manchester one b/c I had a TicketMaster ticket stub and was loving the ticket artwork.

*Miner-thought for a post might be the ticket styles through the years.
Just a thought. For those of us who save them, it’s just as important artwork-wise as the posters.

  23. neemor Says:

Safe flight, Hood….everyone enjoy their Saturday.

  24. joemeg Says:

Definitely listen to Manchester, and if you don’t have time to listen to the whole show then I’d start with set 2. As far as I’m concerned that is the review on jambands that deserved a lot of heat from everybody. Comparing Trey to Bret Favre, going for it an failing. I think that was a lot worse than Z’s article about WFC. Especially since he was writing that regarding the best show of the tour.

  25. joemeg Says:

Especially since he (the reviewer of Manchester) was writing that regarding the best show of the tour.
