Weekend Nuggets: Mullins Center

10.23.10 - Amherst (Ryan Gilbertie)

These weekend’s shows from Amherst were split down the middle. Phish brought a legitimate smoker on Saturday night and a  bona fide snoozefest on Sunday. Coming off three special shows in Augusta, Utica, and Providence, however, these shows just didn’t elevate in the same way. The first night has plenty of engaging jamming in “Tweezer,” Disease > My Friend > Caspian > Halfway to the Moon > Boogie On,” and  set-ending sequence – “Piper > Hood, YEM.” But aside from the first-set “Stash,” Sunday never really got off the ground. The  old-school first set would have been fine had there been any action in the second. But there wasn’t. When a second set’s highlight is “Roggae > Taste” you know something strange is afoot at the Circle K. Another smoking “Bowie” could do nothing to salvage this long-lost second half. But the band popped right back in Manchester like nothing had happened.

  4. oldskool Says:

    Saints D

They have looked like the D of last year over the last few weeks. Lots of pressure, sacks, and turnovers and are coming off a bye

Had a great time at MSG last night. First time on the floor and I’m really spoiled now. I had been trying to keep expectations low but didn’t need to – they played really well. I agree w Joe as MVP, and that second set…whew

@ GD – awesome setlist for a mindbaby

  6. EL Duderino Says:

  9. Robear Says:

duder, that was me re: the Panthers. I have to start Flacco vs. the Panthers or Matt Ryan vs. St. Louis Rams.

  10. EL Duderino Says:

    That’s great gdad!

Man, it has to be hard to go out night after night at their age and try to bring it…

You gotta hand it to them IMO.
    Die-hard Phil phan

  11. EL Duderino Says:

    Flacco against the Panthers Robear…

St. Louis is a team on the rise the Panthers will be in the basement of the NFL for a few years IMO.

  12. Robear Says:

  16. jdub Says:

That Further setlist from last night looks incredible. Glad to hear a few of you guys had a great time and that the playing lived up to the setlist. I was impressed with Russo when I saw Further earlier this year.

Further has played 80 shows this year, not bad for a couple of old farts.

  17. EL Duderino Says:

Phil looks like he’s really enjoying life in his later years…

Jill still lookin’ pretty fine IMO

  18. jdub Says:

I’m sure there are some obscure jazz or blues players who toured their whole life but Bob and Phil gotta be close to the top in number of shows played. Prolific for rock star types.

  19. jdub Says:

Although considering Jerry’s many side tours he’s probably up there with them.

  20. Robear Says:

even kuroda was off his game at times in Amherst. something in the water, i guess.

  21. Robear Says:

    I love Peyton….Hillis

  22. EL Duderino Says:

I’d like to see Detroit beat Dallas today!

  23. Mr.Palmer Says:

Liquid Time from a TAB show just came on the shuffle.

I can see this tune having a very Roggae-like psychedelic jam in it. Just a little quicker pace to it. great tune. Eagerly awaiting it’s Phish debut. 1/1/11 ?

  24. Spasm Waiter Says:

    Hey BB-
Steelers playing like the Pats played last week after a tough beating the week before. Nothing like an ass reaming to get you out playing hard the following week.
Seymour just ejected for punching Benny.

  25. Spasm Waiter Says:

Palmer- Methinks the Liquid Time is right around the corner.
