Weekend Nuggets: Mullins Center

10.23.10 - Amherst (Ryan Gilbertie)

DOWNLOADS OF THE WEEKEND:

These weekend’s shows from Amherst were split down the middle. Phish brought a legitimate smoker on Saturday night and a  bona fide snoozefest on Sunday. Coming off three special shows in Augusta, Utica, and Providence, however, these shows just didn’t elevate in the same way. The first night has plenty of engaging jamming in “Tweezer,” Disease > My Friend > Caspian > Halfway to the Moon > Boogie On,” and  set-ending sequence – “Piper > Hood, YEM.” But aside from the first-set “Stash,” Sunday never really got off the ground. The  old-school first set would have been fine had there been any action in the second. But there wasn’t. When a second set’s highlight is “Roggae > Taste” you know something strange is afoot at the Circle K. Another smoking “Bowie” could do nothing to salvage this long-lost second half. But the band popped right back in Manchester like nothing had happened.

Yep, that review was totally atrocious. Worse than z’s for sure.

12/30/95 appears to be my first PTBM stub. 2nd nite of Columbus OH 2000 is my ugliest PTBM stub (like a dark red color). i was just organizing stubs yesterday for some odd reason and i agree with Neems….those things are a reflection of where i’ve been since i started saving em in high school. pretty cool.

word @joemeg: i’ve listened to manch alot and will give it another go just to get some front to back flow. i didn’t read anything on jambands etc…heard the dustup…but it seems to be that the “old guard” (i’m included in that group), esp those in the press, are having a hard time finding what they found in the band years past (i’m NOT included in that group). i’ve been touched quite a bit by the bands recent collective efforts, and hope we have a few more years of watching them cobble together a cohesive sound. they seem to really be starting to gel IMO.

Cool that you have all your stubs, what a collection. I threw all mine away a few years back, inlcuding all of my GD stubs and stuff. Im weird like that, though, I hate stuff and my inlaws are total stuff=memories people, so that is enough to make me throw everything I have away, haha. Never will I end up with an attic full of memories, but I will always have a head full of them.

Full of it, I should say.

Could someone explain to me why Northwestern and Illinois are playing their football game today at Wrigley Field? Does this happen often? Don’t both teams have their own stadiums?

  5. EL Duderino Says:

    It never happen AJ…

grab for the cash games I would assume…

  6. EL Duderino Says:

I have a gallon freezer bag full of stubs…

    they’ll prolly stay there…

Sounds like an epic task gd
Are you mounting them in various posters or whatnot?

  7. EL Duderino Says:

The only ones that really mean anything to me are the old GD mail-order stubs I have and the unused DC’95 Night 2 stub… 🙁

  8. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

mornin’ all (from a short drive east of the site of phish’s next conquest)

    joggerz,
it is basically a money thing, but they are also doing a little historical reflection. notre dame and army are renewing their old yankee stadium thing today too. and the bears played there for a long time (albeit in a different configuration).

funny to read the original press info where they note that the one end zone would be “very tight”. guess they didn’t measure just how tight.

  9. angryjoggerz Says:

Grab for cash and epic saturday traffic fuck for sure. Fail.

  10. angryjoggerz Says:

I guess they had to shut one side down because their was a brick wall. Something tells me that the fine academic minds of these universities are not often engaged in the planning of their games.

  11. EL Duderino Says:

    @ AJ

It really should be no different than a home Cubs game…
    Right?

Lived 3 blocks from Wrigley for 6 years…

  12. Mr.Palmer Says:

3 stubs for GD fall ’95 at MSG.. 🙁 They offered to return cash for the unused stubs. I told them to keep the cash.

  13. angryjoggerz Says:

Won’t there be more tailgating and face painting? Won’t people be deep fat frying full turkey’s on Addison?

  14. angryjoggerz Says:

Or is that a Green Bay thing? Either way, not driving anywhere near that bitch today, haha. Hope it is fun for all, though and brings some cash to the area. Chicago is happy to get some of that suburbia cash for sure, bring it on.

  15. EL Duderino Says:

    @ Palmer

I literally mourned for 4 days straight… I was 25 and I thought my youth was over… and then i remembered I still had Phish… I was better then

  16. angryjoggerz Says:

As I have mentioned before, Jerry died on my 21st b-day, so talk about mourning for youth, haha!

  17. EL Duderino Says:

    @ AJ

There’s no place to tail-gate down there.
But yeah if you want to avoid it taking you 45 minutes to go 2 miles… stay away from Wrigleyville

We had tix for the Boston Garden run…we mailed the tix in, and got both cash back and the tix, which were specially stamped on the back. Still have them somewheres….

  19. angryjoggerz Says:

Serious question, sorry for being ignorant. At football tail-gating pregame thingies, is there an equivalent to a shakedown where vendors sell shirts and other game related stuff, or is it pretty much people hang at thier cars with their friends? Sounds fun, honestly.

  20. EL Duderino Says:

    @ sumodie

That’s cool that GDTBM sent the unused stubs back along with the pretzel monies…

    Find those stubs fellas!!!

  21. EL Duderino Says:

    It’s nothing like Shakedown St.

  22. angryjoggerz Says:

Maybe you just gotta poke around?

  23. sumodie Says:

^ shouldve added that these were GD mail order tix

  24. EL Duderino Says:

    @ AJ

Your not from the chicagoland area then???

  25. jdub Says:

Another good morning from the Nutmeg state.

Manchester is the goods for sure. Awesome flow to both sets but that second frame is at the top in my book as well. Weekapaug with a night nurse tease and Ghost reprise that mashes with Week outro is off the hook. And then a Llama reprise to close. What a set. Forgot about that Manchester jambands article, so off the mark it seems silly to even talk about it.
