Weekend Nuggets: Mullins Center

10.23.10 - Amherst (Ryan Gilbertie)

DOWNLOADS OF THE WEEKEND:

These weekend’s shows from Amherst were split down the middle. Phish brought a legitimate smoker on Saturday night and a  bona fide snoozefest on Sunday. Coming off three special shows in Augusta, Utica, and Providence, however, these shows just didn’t elevate in the same way. The first night has plenty of engaging jamming in “Tweezer,” Disease > My Friend > Caspian > Halfway to the Moon > Boogie On,” and  set-ending sequence – “Piper > Hood, YEM.” But aside from the first-set “Stash,” Sunday never really got off the ground. The  old-school first set would have been fine had there been any action in the second. But there wasn’t. When a second set’s highlight is “Roggae > Taste” you know something strange is afoot at the Circle K. Another smoking “Bowie” could do nothing to salvage this long-lost second half. But the band popped right back in Manchester like nothing had happened.

mmw: there was a point 30-40 minutes in where i just snapped out of it and thought ‘wow’ … what a start

there were 5-6 rigs at the sbd so hopefully an upgrade pops up some time – a few talkers through the first couple tracks. (i know, i’m lucky to have any source at all). the beginning of the show is the shit i love mmw for

  2. butterflyeffect Says:

@T3 got my iPod, iPhone, and MB Pro all lined up on my desk as always baby

love me some Steve Jobs cock

  3. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

“frantic finishes are a lot less hairy when a flat brim’s got your back”

chris connelly has no idea the double implications of this statement

  4. Mr.Palmer Says:

Watched Crazy Heart last night with the wife. Nothing special. Was kind of disappointed actually. El Dude was good in it though. Music was decent. Not really a country fan though.

  5. EL Duderino Says:

    @ Palmer

Did you like Walk The Line???

  6. EL Duderino Says:

“Big Cypress, ’69. Cool to think its the same location as 30 yrs later…”-nonoyolker

The GD show was in W. Hollywood, FL. @ the Seminole Indian Village…

    two different locations

  7. BrandonKayda Says:

I thought Walk The Line was fantastic. I have never seen Crazy Horse

  8. Robear Says:

top of the mornin’ from rainy NorCal.

    snow on the butte.

  9. Mr. Palmer Says:

Walk the Line was better than Crazy Heart. By a lot IMO

  10. themanatee Says:

im down with crazy heart – loved it

  11. sumodie Says:

Crazy Heart is excellent if tough to watch at times -in any case ya gotta love the Dude playing guitar. Extended soundtrack is also great, and I’m so not a C&W fan myself

@mrP: Didn’t you mention wanting to see a show at Coors Amphitheatre in Chula Vista, CA? I believe that’s where those scenes from Crazy Heart were filmed

Look for the Dude this December in a Coen brothers remake of True Grit -the Dude as the Duke!

  12. Mr.Palmer Says:

Didn’t know that about the Chula Vista scenes. Cool tidbit of info. I don’t know, i guess i just didn’t get anything out of the movie. Maybe i had higher expectations. I mean, its the typical alcoholic musician falls for a girl, tries to clean up act, fails miserably. Ho-hum. Music was good, and Bridges was excellent, no doubt. Story was beat IMO.

  13. halcyon Says:

Hope everyone has a good weekend. Life feeling a bit better on this end today. Hoping to keep the momentum going in a positive direction.

I wonder if True Grit by the Coen brothers will be filmed in Southern CO – Ridgeway like the John Wayne version was.

Major winter storm predicted for the Rockies, hopefully it will stay true to its predictions. Most times when they predict storms with multiple days of snow, and perhaps as much as 3 feet to fall, it usually is a bust.

    :keeping my fingers crossed:

    Namaste everyone.

  14. angryjoggerz Says:

    the dynamic, electronic, Grateful Dead.

    boom.

  15. Robear Says:

halcy, we got our first bit of snow up high last night. i’d say it’s heading your way

  16. Snigglebeach Says:

Just watching a 3 Stooges called “Cactus Makes Perfect”

need to get this and DVD and mute and sync it to a good Mike’s Song….

  17. BingosBrother Says:

Walk the Line gets repeat views. Crazy Heart was disappointing, but worth it just for the fantastic Ryan Bingham song.

  18. Robear Says:

‘Piper>Twist>Scents n subtle sounds’ with the hippie speedball. warms the bones.

  19. verno329 Says:

@Sniggle Funny you should mention that. I’m watching the same thing now except with the Chalk>WLL>dust on in the background. Sweet

  20. Mr.Miner Says:

    bay aaaaaaareaaa!

  21. Robear Says:

    @ miner, yep

  22. joemeg Says:

  23. Lycanthropist Says:

  24. fatbunch Says:

Good morning from the chilly PNW! Sub-z temps have arrived. We just watched Stranger Than Fiction in bed this a.m. (again). What an awesome movie! I wonder how many Harold Cricks there are in the phan base running stats in their heads all the time? At least one I can think of… Not me, I tend to forget to even open my eyes half the time in the venue – let alone think! 😉

  25. verno329 Says:

@Dude Depends on what you use it for. If it will be used mainly for media consumption like web and video I’d say go with the iPad. But if you want a ereader you gotta go with a Kindle. My dad has one and I’ve always been impressed with it.
