Type II Trivia: The Modern Era

10.31.10 Graham Lucas)

Come one, come all! If you’ve been paying attention for the past couple years, you’ll have as good of a shot at this contest as anyone. Today’s main event is “Type II Trivia: 3.0 Style.” That’s right, all ten audio clips come from this era since Phish returned in 2009. Nobody can claim noobership in this contest, as most of you have all these jams stashed away in soundboard quality on your hard drives and iPods…but can you place them? You can earn a total of twenty points for this contest by naming the song and date (1 point each) of each two-minute audio clip. In the event of a tie, I will devise some sort of tiebreaker. Hopefully this contest will shine a light on some highlights and forgotten moments of the last two years. There are no repeats of songs. Please email your entries to me by 12 pm Pacific tonight to have a valid entry. The winner will be announced either tomorrow or Thursday and will have the choice of any piece of merch on-sale for $7.77 in Phish’s Dry Goods Seven Below Sale, including CDs, t-shirts and more. Good luck to all, and have fun!

  4. purplehumpbackwhale Says:

i synced it up with my SBD’s in the stereo too. plus i have a sound-responsive multicolored light arching over my tv and stereo so that shit was going off in time with Mike while ck5 filled my tv screen in the middle.

on my way to go pick up sour d as well. successful night overall

  5. Aquaman Says:

Yeah, the only 2009 that gets love in this house is Blossom and some of Alpine night 2. Not a statement on 2009, just a statement as to my laziness.

  6. Aquaman Says:

Like this…..remember 17 minutes ago when I said ‘bane it and be right back…….still haven’t gone. Lazy.

  7. Aquaman Says:

2 – 0 Red Wings. And the snow just started in Chicago.

  8. butter Says:

    your killin it purp

  9. joe Says:

how we (or at least I) listen is so much different in 3.0 (is this still the accepted term? 4.0 starting with the upcoming run?) I listen to more than I ever did but it’s more disposable than when I had a handful of go-to tapes, and later cds. if one of these was simple from nye1996 I’d have it nailed (don’t check to see if it was played that night cuz I’m probably wrong about that too).

  10. Aquaman Says:

I jumped on the TV tip with Purp, post my short ‘bane session.

Instead of the boys on DVD I have Red Wing hockey and 5-6-1992 Reba at top volume. Soooooo much better than listening in the office on ear buds.

Everyone should grab this show from Miner’s archive and check this track from the 6:30 mark on. Track 3 St. Andrews Hall, Det, MI – Reba.

This is the exact stretch of music where ‘IT’ happened to me.

  16. Aquaman Says:

    OOOOOOhh My, Chalkdust!!

    My old freakin’ friend……..

Folks it’s like I’ve forgotten what a killer tune Chalkdust can be. I never seek this tune out when listening back to shows.

This 5-6-1992 is smoking at the 4:00 Mark.

Check it in the archives. $$$

Just moved on to a light snack of Week > Suzy > Light from Providence 2010.

First time for me. Back with thoughts.

  18. dagan Says:

what time do we have to have our entries in by again?

  19. Aquaman Says:

    So the quick review:

RE: Prov 2010 Week > Suzy > Light

The Week is great. Continues a trend of lighter more staccato styles of Week that sound similar to this past summer’s Blossom version.

A raucous Suzy. Greta energy. The crowd raged on this one.

And what can I say about that Light. I love the climb into Light heaven and the turn back into the chorus was slick.

This will make the rotation for sure.

  20. Aquaman Says:

(Clearly talking to myself out here. So let’s really do it.)

Self, you just completed the Loving Cup from Set 2 Providence, do you think it’s the swankiest Loving Cup ever?

Why yes self. Yes I do.

I will admit to having slept on this set of Phish for some reason but no more. The set rocks and I haven’t even finished the Tube.

Great and inventive Char Zero and a hot shit, smoking little 2001.

So, you like it? Do ya, self?

Why yes self. Yes I do.
