Type II Trivia: The Modern Era

10.31.10 Graham Lucas)

Come one, come all! If you’ve been paying attention for the past couple years, you’ll have as good of a shot at this contest as anyone. Today’s main event is “Type II Trivia: 3.0 Style.” That’s right, all ten audio clips come from this era since Phish returned in 2009. Nobody can claim noobership in this contest, as most of you have all these jams stashed away in soundboard quality on your hard drives and iPods…but can you place them? You can earn a total of twenty points for this contest by naming the song and date (1 point each) of each two-minute audio clip. In the event of a tie, I will devise some sort of tiebreaker. Hopefully this contest will shine a light on some highlights and forgotten moments of the last two years. There are no repeats of songs. Please email your entries to me by 12 pm Pacific tonight to have a valid entry. The winner will be announced either tomorrow or Thursday and will have the choice of any piece of merch on-sale for $7.77 in Phish’s Dry Goods Seven Below Sale, including CDs, t-shirts and more. Good luck to all, and have fun!

what if Miner put a random jam from another band in just to fuck with us…

“ill show these kids always wondering where the dotd is and asking me for another write-up, and why can’t you write about this, Miner and wouldn’t it be cool if you did this, Miner, and miner miner miner. come to our meet ups. miner – miner.”

    whiners.

  2. P.S.H.S. Says:

    i finished Lost last night,
    epic.

  3. DukeOfLizards (CUSTY) Says:

Really struggling a lot more than I thought I would.

I think one of ’em is a Light.

  4. Chuck D Says:

…watch out for the pterodactyl calls in #10…

#3 is the best. there; i win.

  5. Spasm Waiter Says:

Mentioned this yesterday but thought I’d repost. I was pretty blown away by the Broadway play, FELA, this past weekend. Powerful shit. The music, dance, and overall production were far beyond my expectations. Highly recomended for fans of Fela, afrobeat, etc…

  6. sumodie Says:

Today’s JotD makes me wonder–could that be a candidate for best-ever “Pebbles”?

The 8/3/03 IT festival Pebbles was pretty powerful I thought -though I haven’t spun it since the Charleston version dropped

  7. Spasm Waiter Says:

Click my name if you are not hip to the great Fela…

  8. Aquaman Says:

    @PSHS.

Watched it twice, cried both times.

  9. sumodie Says:

@spasm: I caught your comment about Fela previously -that musical would easily be my first choice if I was going to a Broadway show

I’ve been a fan of Fela director/choreographer Bill T. Jones for a while now (he’s had his own dance company for almost 30 years)

I keep forgetting 1/2/11 is a Sunday, maybe I should check out Fela tix for that day….

  10. Lumpyhead Says:

damn I wish Miner had given me such a distraction post today

    – whining

  11. Lumpyhead Says:

    ^ *hadn’t.

  12. SillyWilly Says:

I don’t know why I thought of this, but in the early part of 10/12 Broomfield’s Bowie, Trey plays some licks that kind of remind me of George Harrison at the beginning of Octopus’ Garden.

Definitely not intentional. and I can’t remember the last time I heard Octopus’ Garden, but it just pooped into my head.

But what a wacky combo Theme>Bowie*>Sand would make

    *Octupus’ Garden teases

  13. Spasm Waiter Says:

It’s cool man and I don’t really groove musicals (traditional). The dancing is amazing. I have seen Alvin Ailey a few times and I think the dancing is in that class for sure. I was pretty emotional watching it (given, I was super hungover and way baned). They make the decorate the theater to make it look like the Shrine Theater that Fela built. First act is a huge groove fest.

  16. Guyute711 Says:

“Morning folks! Today’s JotD makes me wonder–could that be a candidate for best-ever “Pebbles”? Sure, there have been longer ones, but tighter, more powerful? I dunno.”

I would have to check it out again but I’m pretty sure the version from IT is pretty, pretty good.

  17. Mr. Palmer Says:

Notkuroda.. Nice first show ! 🙂

  18. KWL Says:

  22. st8 of mind Says:

2/20/03 Pebbles from Allstate was great as well.

  23. Lumpyhead Says:

I was there for charleston so I’m biased. If you like fall tour style jamming then that pebbles and marbles is for you

  24. angryjoggerz Says:

Huh, I was at both IT and alstate, and still thought that P&M at Charleston was my first one. I need get a better memory.
